Chapter Twenty-Eight: In My Heart

We arrived at a large, magnificent hotel smack dab in the middle of a busy business street. There were many shops and restaurants as far as the eye could see.

"We're here," Lyssa said, unbuckling her seatbelt and swiveling around to face me.

"And you're sure Alpha Briggs will be willing to take us in?"

This wasn't the first time I'd asked this question during our hour long drive. Maybe it was the graying sky or the slight drizzle that was falling, but for some reason, I felt uneasy. I was afraid. I was so close to being with Marc again and I felt like something was just going to appear out of thin air and snatch away the happiness that was growing in my chest.

"He will," Lyssa assured me, smiling brightly. "This land is yours. He couldn't turn down the Luna of this land even if he wanted to. Besides, I told you already, he and Alpha Allen are great friends. He'll want to do anything he can for you."

I nodded once. Lyssa was in a much better mood now that her Mate was with us. Roy had been silent the entire drive, only looking ahead as he drove toward our destination. I had come to realize Roy was a man of few words. The complete opposite of Lyssa.

Once we were out of the car, we headed straight for the hotel, walking quickly to escape the light drizzle which was quickly turning into a heavy rain.

Now, the outside of the hotel was awe inspiring, but the inside was truly a sight to behold. It had everything: gorgeous furnishing, gorgeous white walls trimmed with gold patterns and lovely marble floors. Had I not been so eager to find Alpha Briggs and call Marc, my jaw would have dropped at all the beauty surrounding me.

At the front desk was a young She-Wolf. She looked at us curiously, sniffing the air a little as we walked closer.

"I want to see Alpha Briggs," I said as soon as we were right in front of her.

Her eyes widened slightly before she regained her composure, frowning at me a little.

"Alpha Briggs only accepts visits if you've made an appointment," she told me with a false smile. " Perhaps you should--"

My Wolf, who was growing tired of hearing the She-Wolf's voice, took hold of my body. My hands wrapped around her throat, pulling her toward me.

"I want to see him now," I growled. The longer I was away from Marc, the more irritable I became.

The She-Wolf's eyes widened as she stared at me. Her Wolf--sensing the power of mine--cowered and she nodded quickly.

"Of course, Luna. Forgive me."

I let her go and she scrambled away, disappearing into a backroom. When I looked behind me, Lyssa and Roy just stared at me in shock.

"You're scarier than you look," Lyssa finally managed, grinning madly.

I shook my head. "All I want is to see Marc again. That's all."

Lyssa nodded, looking serious and Roy's eyes met mine, his eyes holding a deep understanding.

The She-Wolf returned, her gaze on the ground as she spoke. "Alpha Briggs will see you now, Luna."

We followed her to Alpha Briggs office. When she opened the door, he was already standing, his eyes instantly going to my face. Alpha Briggs was a bear of a man with thick muscles and a strong, chiseled face. His hair was a light brown and his eyes were a shining hazel.

Grinning he said, "So, you're Tanaya Brinks. Marc has been tearing Europe apart looking for you. I kid you not, from London to Paris to Germany, he's been leaving no stone unturned to find his Luna. It's nice to finally meet the Moon Blessed Luna. I'm Alpha Briggs."

My heart was clenching in my chest at the thought of Marc searching everywhere for me, but I forced myself to focus as I smiled thinly.

"It's nice to meet you, Alpha Briggs. Lyssa tells me you're a good friend of Marc's. I hope we will be good friends, too."

He smiled warmly. "Please, call me Sam. Anyone important to Marc is important to me. Sit down, all of you." I didn't miss the way his eyes traveled to Roy, pausing on him mistrustfully.

"He saved my life," I explained. "He's also Lyssa's Mate. He's a part of my Pack now."

Sam nodded once, smiling at me tightly. "If you say you trust him, then I will, too."

Once we were seated, I explained everything that had happened to Sam. He listened closely, frowning and growling with anger the entire time. By the end of my story, he was on his feet, pacing.

"I always knew Cortes was a shifty son of a bitch, but pairing up with Hunters..." he trailed off, shaking his head. "That's low, even for him."

"I was hoping you'd be kind enough to give us a place to stay," I spoke up. "I'm calling Marc as soon as I can since Lyssa is sure the phones here aren't bugged. Once I've called him, he'll probably be here by tomorrow." A smile tugged at the corners of my mouth as I imagined him. He would definitely scramble to get here. I could feel how he was aching to see me.

Sam nodded, eyebrows furrowed. "Of course, of course. We'll make sure our best warriors are patrolling the area, so please, rest easy."

"Thank you, Sam," I said, standing. "I hope one day I can repay you."

Sam smiled, scoffing and waving one hand in the air. "Think nothing of it. I've told you before, anyone important to Marc is important to me."

After talking with Sam, we were put in a two bedroom suite. His Mate, Luna Robyn, was kind enough to take us to it. She was the opposite of Sam. She was tiny and fragile looking with long locks of blonde hair and deep brown eyes. The only thing they seemed to have in common were their friendly personalities.

The first thing I did once we were inside, was head toward the phone. I dialed Marc's cell phone number, chanting for him to pick up over and over again until he finally did.

"Hello?" came his deep voice. He sounded the same yet different. The same because that voice was one I would recognize anywhere. Deep and enchanting, it wrapped around me like a soft, warm blanket. But it was different because it sounded emptier. He sounded like something inside of him was gone, he sounded as empty as I had been feeling these past couple of days.

"Marc."

I could hear the sound of his breath catching in his throat when he heard my voice.

"Tanaya," he breathed, fire in his voice.

All he said was my name and suddenly I was crying, tears rolling down my cheeks, holding my hand to my mouth as I struggled to silence the sobs that were trying to free themselves from my throat.

"I missed you so much," I said, my voice thick.

"Me too," he answered, the relief in his voice was so strong that it forced its way into the Bond. I could feel his joy, his relief. "When I couldn't contact your Wolf...Tanaya, I was so scared. I thought..."

I shook my head before remembering he couldn't see me. "No, they used silver on me. She was weak for a long time. She only became well earlier today."

"I know," he whispered. "I felt her. I felt you."

I wanted to wrap myself up in his voice. I had gone without it for so long that I was greedy. I wanted more.

"Where are you right now?" he asked me anxiously.

I explained everything from beginning to end to him. He was quiet on the other end, but his rage was so strong that it seeped through the Bond and enveloped me.

"Cortes had you kidnapped," he growled, barely in control of himself. His Wolf was ready to be free now.

"I don't care about any of that anymore," I murmured, closing my eyes. "Just come get me, please. It's been so long since I've seen your face and I just..."

"I know what you mean," he spoke softly, his feelings of rage easing up but not entirely fading. "Lyssa was right to take you there, you'll be safe. My men and I will be heading there right away. We should make it there by the end of the night."

I looked at the time which said it was around five-thirty.

"How long is the drive?"

"The drive would be around four hours or so, but we're not driving. We're running. We'll get there in two."

A smile stretched across my face. "Eager to see me?"

"You have no idea. Get some rest and wait for me, okay."

"Okay."

"I love you, Tanaya."

I closed my eyes and for the first time said what had been in my heart all this time.

"I love you, too, Marc."
