1: New Soul

I'll be forever wandering…

Wandering for the truth…

Wandering to search…

To know…

And why did I die…

CHAPTER 1: New Soul

I am Gerald Jefferson, and I was alive, until now…

I woke up from my sleep, like average times. I walked up to the mirror, and I realized…

I'm already dead…

I was shocked to see that I'm transparent, just like a soul, but then, someone said, “You're already a soul.”

I searched for who it was, and I saw a girl, dressed in a black hood, with a scythe, like the Grim Reaper…

Oh, wait, she IS a Grim Reaper.

“Surprised to see me?” She asked after I saw her. I stood there, frozen at the thought that Death is to take my soul, and I haven't known how I died.

“Please, not yet, I gotta know how I died!”

“There's no time for that. Death wants your soul, now!”

“Just please, maybe just 1 month, that would be enough!”

“I'm afraid I can't do that…”

She was about to take me to Hades, when…

“Just wait...”

A deep voice just called out…

Death himself has showed up…

His head is a skull, literally…

But, I realized that it was just a mask, and I said, “Please, just give me time!”

“Would you really want to know how you died?” He asked me.

“Yes,” I answered him back.

“But, you said you want his soul, correct?” the girl Reaper questioned her superior.

“Let's just… talk this over at my place...” Death said while smiling at us.

I asked myself, “Why would Death smile at one of his Reapers and his to-be-owned soul? The world is so mysterious...”

Death chanted some kind of spell, and it teleported us to Hades…

It's actually… Not bad…

It's not actually Hell, it's some kind of the Purgatory.

“Hades was made by God to be the second Purgatory. Hell is actually underneath us, with Lucifer down there roasting his butt...” Death said, while taking off his mask.

His face is actually not bad. He's handsome, actually.

“I wear this mask so that I would be feared. If I don't have this mask, people wouldn't take me seriously, and girls would just be head over heels for me.”

When he said that, I realized the girl Reaper is already head over heels. I wanted to laugh, but I know this is a serious talk.

I saw my dead family already… My grandpa and my grandma are there, enjoying their life, while my uncle Phil, who died of a car accident, was there driving some kind of Hadesian Lambo.

Another question struck my mind: Why am I dead?

How did I die, actually? Why did I die? Was it my time? Was I killed? There's just so much to process, I wanted to cry!

But, then, the girl Reaper said to me, “Hey, come on. Boys don't cry, right?”

Her words struck my mind, and I said, “Of course not! We're strong!” while smiling at her.

“Come on, dead lovebirds, let's go in my house...”

I suddenly blushed at what Death said. Lovebirds?!

I gathered up strength to go inside Death's own house. And, wow, was it clean…

“I thought Death doesn't tidy up...”

“Nah, it's not me, it's my kid.”

Then, a girl popped up out of nowhere.

“Dad, who's this?”

“Just another soul, Karla.”

I couldn't believe it. Death has a kid! Wow. The religions' beliefs… They should just fuse…

“Come on, let's talk about your situation...”

I sat down with the girl Reaper beside me, and Death said,

“Look, kid, I don't actually know how you died.”

Woah, that goes the easy part. I replied, “I thought Death knows the death of the souls he has.”

“Actually, I didn't expect you to die early. Look, you're just 15, friendly, no enemies, and most of all, a top achiever! I expected you to die at least when you become 70+...”

“So, you're not gonna take my soul?”

“Nah, not yet,” and when Death said that, I felt relieved.

“Wait, sir, we're supposed to take souls right? Why wouldn't you want to take his soul?”

“I, too, want to know why this kid died, and I suppose it's not disease...”

“Then, that would mean...”

“Someone killed you, Gerald...”

I can't believe what I just heard. Killed, seriously? But, I never antagonized anyone while I was alive!

“A-are you sure that I was killed?”

“Though I don't think you were killed by a thief or someone like that, I think you were killed at night, that's why you can't remember.”

“Then, what should I-”

“I should let you go for a while, as a Wandering...”

“Wanderings are people who search for the truth of why, where, what, when, and who killed them, and I am making you one of those people.”

“But, he needs a… Reaper… to be with him,” the girl Reaper burst out to her superior.

“Oh, wait...”

“You are gonna be that Reaper...”

“WHAT!?” she said while totally blushing. Does she like me, or does she not have experience being friends with a boy?

“What? It would be rewarding! Amelia here hasn't talked to a boy in 5 years, at least she would have a male friend her age...”

“Oh, so Amelia's her name.”

“Hmph, whatever...”

“Man, is she tsundere?” I thought to myself.

“Well, have I made myself clear? Amelia Stradsford, you are gonna be the guide for Gerald Jefferson, and Gerald, you are going to look for the truth: Who, what, when, where, and why were you killed.”

“Yes! I'll do my best!” I said respectfully.

“How about you, umm, Amelia? You in or not?”

“Guess I have no choice, though. I'll do it. I like a bit of adventure, anyways.”

“Then, go forth to the mortal world, search endlessly until you've found the truth!”

I closed my eyes, and thought, “I am gonna know why was I killed, I just got to.”

Then I realized, we were at the human world again, with Amelia by my side.

“Well, let's go, Amelia!” I said to her while I gave out my hand.

“Yes, let's do this then… Gerald,” she said happily while taking my hand.

“Anyways, do you like me?” I asked jokingly.

“Darn it! Why am I stuck with him?”

Well, I'm to search the world, to know who killed me, and why, and I'm gonna do it…

As a Wandering…
