Hundreds of spectators packed the amphitheatre of the Kingdom of Nightshades to watch the duel between King Bellamy and Donovan. Among the spectators, Sigmund and Prince Maximilian, not forgetting his bodyguard, Jasper, had seats in the front row of the amphitheatre. They were waiting apprehensively for the duel to start.
Moments later, King Bellamy and Donovan entered the arena from opposite ends. Both of them were wearing suits of armour. The two men made their ways to the center of the arena and stood opposite each other.
The vampire king glared at the werewolf, who glowered back. They two then began to taunt each other. Due to the spectators’ enhanced hearing, they all were able to pick up what the two sworn enemies were talking about.
“Let’s face it! You’re not going to win, Son-in-law. So, you’d better surrender now!” King Bellamy said sardonically.
“If you think I’m going to chicken out, you’re sadly mistaken, Father-in-law. While there is breath left in my body, I will keep fighting for my daughter,” said Donovan. His voice was full of venom.
King Bellamy threw his head back and let out a loud guffaw. “It seems that you are more than ready to meet your end today, Son-in-law!”
“Don’t be overconfident, Father-in-law! Who knows? Maybe you’re the one who will go the way of all flesh first,” Donovan sneered.
“I’m not overconfident or arrogant, Son-in-law, but I do believe in my own ability,” King Bellamy said self-confidently.
“I’m confident of my ability too, Father-in-law,” Donovan asserted.
“Let’s cut the crap and get down to business!” King Bellamy said impatiently.
“All right, let’s get this over and done with!” Donovan agreed.
Out of tradition, King Bellamy and Donovan bowed. Just as both of them were ready to lunge at each other suddenly Prince Xavier barged into the arena.
“STOP!” he hollered.
“What the hell do you think you are doing here Xavier?” King Bellamy asked angrily.
“Sorry to barge in on you like this, Your Majesty, but this duel cannot be continued,” Prince Xavier stated.
“Who are you to tell me I can’t continue this duel?” King Bellamy stormed.
“There’s no point in you guys continuing this duel because the person you are fighting for isn’t here anymore,” Prince Xavier explained.
Donovan’s forehead was bunched in a frown. “What are you talking about?”
“Rosangela is no longer here,” answered Prince Xavier.
At the mention of the half-blood vampire princess’ name, suddenly it dawned on everyone that the girl whom the vampire king and werewolf were fighting for wasn’t present there at the moment.
“You’re a liar!” King Bellamy spat in disbelief.
“Just check it yourself if you don’t believe me!” Prince Xavier challenged.
King Bellamy looked across the arena at Prince Maximilian. The vampire prince got the message and immediately gave an order to his bodyguard, “Jasper, you know what you have to do, right?”
Jasper nodded in understanding and with that he vanished in a puff of smoke.
“Do you think he’s telling the truth about Rosanne is not in this kingdom anymore?” Sigmund asked for Prince Maximilian’s opinion.
“Don’t believe a word of it! I’m sure he’s just trying to stall for time in order that he can delay this duel,” Prince Maximilian answered confidently.
“If so, why isn’t Rosangela here, then?” Sigmund wondered.
“You needn’t worry. She must be somewhere about. I think she just doesn’t want to watch her father and grandfather try to kill each other, that’s why she decides not to attend this duel,” Prince Maximilian reassured him.
“I hope you’re right,” Sigmund said with a sigh.
While waiting for Jasper to come back, Prince Maximilian and Sigmund joined King Bellamy, Prince Xavier, and Donovan in the arena. Prince Xavier’s parents, King Joaquin and Queen Estrella, and Alpha Wolfgang along with his son, Randolph, followed suit.
Half an hour later, Jasper finally returned. Everyone in the arena soon crowded around him.
“How is it, Jasper?” King Bellamy asked him expectantly.
“I am sorry, Your Majesty. I have looked for Princess Mirabelle everywhere, but she was nowhere to be found,” Jasper answered apologetically.
“Shit!” Prince Maximilian cursed under his breath.
Meanwhile, Sigmund chastised himself for his own stupidity. He was too busy thinking of a way to stop King Bellamy and Donovan’s duel to notice Princess Mirabelle has gone missing.
Unexpectedly, King Bellamy grabbed Prince Xavier around the throat, lifting him off the ground. “WHERE DID YOU TAKE MY GRANDDAUGHTER TO?” he bellowed.
“I’m buggered if I’m going to tell you where she is,” Prince Xavier retorted.
The vampire prince’s answer infuriated King Bellamy even more. The vampire king then tightened his grip around Prince Xavier’s throat, obstructing his airway.
Struggling for breath, Prince Xavier tried to pry King Bellamy’s hand off him but the vampire king was much more stronger than him.
“What the fuck are you doing, Bellamy? Get off my son now! You could kill him,” Prince Xavier’s father, King Joaquin protested. Yet he didn’t dare to get too close to the wrathful king for fear that it would endanger the life of his only son.
“I’ll only let go of him if he tells me where he has taken my granddaughter to,” King Bellamy stressed furiously.
“No! I won’t tell you anything!” Prince Xavier said petulantly.
“Stop being stubborn, Son! Tell him where you’ve taken his granddaughter to,” King Joaquin snapped at his son.
“I’d die before I told him where Rosangela is,” Prince Xavier wheezed.
“Please listen to your father, my son!” Queen Estrella, Xavier’s mother begged as tears streamed down her face. “Just tell King Bellamy what he wants to know!”
Prince Xavier looked down at his mother’s despairing face and finally decided to give in. “Fine. I will tell him.”
Hearing that, King Bellamy lastly let go of Prince Xavier and the vampire prince fell to the ground, gasping for air.
Queen Estrella hurried over to his son and helped him to his feet.
“Now, tell me! Where have you sent my granddaughter to?” King Bellamy demanded wrathfully.
“I have sent her home,” Prince Xavier replied in a small, tight voice.
“What do you mean by home?” Donovan queried.
“I’ve sent Rosangela back to her adopted family in London,” Prince Xavier clarified.
“How dare you send my granddaughter to those pathetic humans without my consent!” King Bellamy raged. He was about to pounce on Prince Xavier, but Sigmund grasped him by the arm, stopping him.
“You can deal with Prince Xavier later, Your Majesty. Now, we’d better go to London to find out whether he’s telling the truth about Princess Mirabelle or not,” Sigmund suggested.
King Bellamy took a few deep breaths to calm himself down before he said, “You’re right, Sigmund. Let’s get the hell out of here now!”
Sigmund, Prince Maximilian, and Jasper chorused. “Yes, Your Majesty.”
King Bellamy looked daggers at Prince Xavier. “I’m not finished with you!” he hissed. There was a warning note in the vampire king’s voice that made Prince Xavier’s hair stand on end.
Without waiting for Xavier’s response, King Bellamy spun on his heel and stomped out of the amphitheatre in high dudgeon.
Prince Maximilian, Jasper, and Sigmund followed behind him.
“I think we should leave for London too, Donovan,” Alpha Wolfgang talked to his ex-beta, “We need to make sure that Rosangela is okay.”
“I agree with you, Alpha,” said Donovan.
“Then, what are we waiting for? Let’s get moving now!” Randolph exclaimed.
Alpha Wolfgang and Donovan nodded in agreement.
At last, the three werewolves rushed out of the amphitheatre, leaving Prince Xavier and his parents behind.
