Prologue

Ode to the Twelve

As ages old and ages new disperse
There will be twelve, props of the universe:

Warrior, defend us with sword and shield
In mind and spirit, never yield

Builder, steady our road in night and day
Let it strong to show the way

Trader, be our beacon bringing us together
So the ties we make are hard to sever

Watcher, preserve us through heart and memory
That we may live first before dreams and reverie

Thespian, bring us joy in restless hours
Bring us sunshine to give us power

Keeper, teach us to treasure what is ours
For what we treasure is like our stars

Diplomat, show us the manner for finding peace
Mankind’s harmony is its greatest masterpiece

Sorcerer, let us transform our world array
Yet discipline us, from the truth we must not astray

Adventurer, seek our greatest triumph and fear
Be bold in the now, persevere

Judge, decide not just our wrong and right
Judge us how we are made of dark and light

Philosopher, question us, question our world
So much unknown is yet to be unfurled

Healer, teach us that sacrifice is not to cleave
It’s to bring greater things because we believe.
