I stared at him, confusion evident in my eyes. Why was he telling me this?
Maybe, you're his mate.
I quickly pushed the thought aside in my head. Everyone knew that werewolves never mated humans. My dad told me, Brett told me, Luca told me – and he was a werewolf. He obviously knew.
My confusion quickly turned to anger. "Why would you take me home last night? Were you planning to sleep in the same bed as me even when you knew who your mate was? If I didn't tell you not to sleep with me, what else would you have done?" I stalked closer and closer to him, hands on my hips and gave him a hard glare.
When Luca told me about mates, he made it seem like they were your world; that no matter what they did, you were still attracted to every part of their being; that you were always with them. He told me how possessive wolves were about their mates and that if a wolf found his or her mate with another they would go crazy.
"I thought higher of you beasts. I thought you actually respected your mates enough to not bring home another girl."
I watched as his eyes turned to a darker gold. "We would never bring home another girl! We respect our mate."
"Clearly, you don't. If you respected your mate, I wouldn't be here."
"You are our-" he began, but his eyes flickered back and forth between gold and green and eventually settled back to a deep green color. "You are..." he began once more as he took a deep breath. "...right. I don't care about her."
I crossed my arms and smirked at him. I knew it.
His eyes went completely blank and he stared right through me.
"She's weak. She could never be the Luna to my pack." I stared wide eyed at him, in disbelief that he spoke so lowly of his mate. "Listen. I don't want to talk any more about her. We will never be together and that's fine by me." His jaw clenched as he looked towards the door, avoiding eye contact with me.
I stared at him in disgust. This man is nothing like Luca had described. Luca was rejected by his mate, but he still loved her. This guy wanted nothing to do with his.
"Let's go. I'm going to bring you home."
I glared at him and grabbed my things walking out the door. I waited for him to follow because I would surely get lost in this house.
Thankfully, we didn't run into anybody as we walked to the car. I didn't want people to think I slept with someone like him.
I watched as we drove off of pack grounds and pulled onto the empty roadway. "Now, don't be a brat this time and tell me where you live." I gave him a side glare and rolled my eyes. I told him my address and he began driving there. The car ride was silent and I was thankful for that. I don't know what I would say to him.
We passed through a forest of trees and rays of sunlight peeked through them, signaling that the sun was rising. I rubbed my eyes over my hands, wanting to crawl back into bed and forget about this whole thing.
"What's your name?" I heard from my side. I was slightly shocked that he wanted to know. I looked over at him and he glanced towards me.
"Mae," I stated.
"I'm Damon." I glared at the side of his face – his perfect face.
"I don't care."
"What?" He asked with anger in his voice. "You don't care?" His hand gripped the steering wheel and I watched his eyes flicker to gold.
"Why would I care about someone like you? You seem to not give a sh*t about anybody else, especially your mate." He rolled his eyes as they turned back to green and he took a breath.
"Why do you care so much about that whole mate thing? You're not even a wolf."
"Because! I think you should love and care and respect the person you're with or the person you're supposed to be with. She probably cares about you and you can't just treat her likes she's nothing. Don't reject her, Damon. It will break her."
"What do you know about wolf rejection?" His eyes were dark. My mind went to Luca. Luca was broken. He tried to act like he wasn't but every time I looked into his eyes they looked so sad. He slept around with girls sometimes to make himself feel better, but the next morning he cried his eyes out to me. He never looked at someone with love greater than the love of friendship.
I looked down at my shoes and decided to drop the conversation. I didn't need to bring up Luca's business around him.
We drove for a few more minutes in silence. I watched as we passed a small diner and my stomach growled, hungry for breakfast.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Damon look my way. We pulled up to a stop sign and instead of taking a right, he did a U-turn.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"To breakfast," he responded. I didn't want to go to breakfast with him. I wanted to go home. "Don't argue with me, Mae. You're hungry. We are going to eat."
I shut my mouth and we pulled up to the small diner. As we pulled in, a werewolf girl greeted us. "Alpha Damon," she said with a bow. "Here is your table."
We sat across from each other in a red cushioned booth. I shifted uncomfortably as I felt his gaze on me while I was reading the menu. I glanced up to meet his piercing green eyes. My breath caught in my throat. His lips curled up in a smile. I looked back down at my menu and took a deep breath, trying to regain my composure.
"Why don't you look at the menu and not me?" I said.
"You're not on the menu?" I glared down at my menu and rolled my eyes. "I already know what I want anyways."
The same girl came over and took our orders. I didn't know what to talk about as we waited for our food so I let my eyes wander around the diner, taking in all of the other wolves in it.
"So, tell me about yourself."
"I rather not."
"Well, then, we will sit here in silence and wait for our food." I shrugged my shoulders. That was fine by me.
I felt his gaze on me once more and I looked up to see him checking me over. His green eyes met mine. I stared back into them. They made me want to know all of his secrets and all of the memories he has seen with them. They pulled me in and wrapped me up with their warmth.
He propped his elbows on the table and leaned closer to me. He rested his chin on one of his hands and smiled. His other hand reached out and rested next to mine. His thumb gently grazed over mine and I felt a rush. Golden specks appeared in his green pools.
"Alpha Damon!" His head snapped to the side and three tall and muscular men approached. They bowed their heads in Damon's direction and turned to smile at me.
"Who's this?" The larger one asked. Their eyes were on me. A growled rumbled from across the table. I glanced at Damon to see his eyes completely changed to gold. His fists were clenched on the table and his jaw was tight.
"She is none of your business." The three men snapped their heads from me and bowed to their alpha. He stood and towered over them.
They scurried away and he sat back down.
"Who are they?" His golden eyes met mine and his jaw clenched more. I looked over at them as they sat at their table and began eating like nothing happened.
"Don't look at them," Damon demanded. My head snapped to him.
"I'll look at them if I want to." I said back.
"NO. You won't." His voice dripped with domination. His eyes were glowing. His canines emerged from his lips.
My father's words floated back to my mind about how werewolves were dangerous. They could turn at any second. They could kill at any second. Damon looked ready to kill.
I held his eye contact and placed my hand on his clenched fist, trying to calm him down. He wasn't going to tell me what to do, but I also didn't want to see him kill anyone right here, right now.
He visibility relaxed, his eyes slowly turning into green orbs. I reluctantly released his hands from mine. He quickly grabbed them back before I had a chance to put them by my sides.
His eyes pierced into mine and again I was captured by them.
The girl came over with our food and I peeled my eyes and hands away from his. I turned my attention to my food and tried to forget about our weird exchange. I hurriedly scarfed down my French toast and bacon.
When we were finished, we got back into his car and he drove me home.
"Here you are, Kitten." He smiled over at me, as he pulled into my driveway.
"Did you forget my name and have to use that nickname already?" I asked, teasing him.
"No, I just like the name. It fits you." He said with a wink. I rolled my eyes and opened the door. He quickly got out of his side of the car and ran over to mine. He shut the door behind me.
"You don't have to walk me in. I'm a big girl. I can handle myself."
"HEYYYY! GURLLLL! Is this that hot wolf guy you were telling me about?" I looked up to see Aaisha yelling out of the window. My face heated up. She just has to tell my business to everyone. "Wait a minute! Let me come down and meet him." She shut the window and I knew I had a minute alone with Damon before she came down yelling inappropriate jokes at him. I needed him to leave before that happened.
"You need to go." I directed at Damon. A smirk appeared on his face.
"You think I'm hot?" My face tingled more and I probably looked as red as a cherry. I rolled my eyes.
"No." I lied. "Now, you need to go."
"I want to see you again."
"Fine, fine. As long as you leave before she comes down. Please." I pleaded with him. Aaisha would just make things much more embarrassing for me.
"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow at 7 then. I'll pick you up."
"Okay, now go!" I looked back at the front door and hoped that she wasn't about to walk out it.
I looked back at him to see him walking to his car. He turned to me and smirked as he jumped in. He rolled down the window, just as he was about to pull away.
"It's a date." And with that he sped away.
It's a date.
Did I actually just agree to a date with him?
A/N So, what do you all think of Alpha Damon?
