Chapter 10: Family Dinner

After spending time with Dominic, he turned into his dragon form and he carried me out of Krotolas and we flew in the afternoon sky. I smiled at the view and I stroked Scorch’s scales and I told him.

“This view is amazing, I envy you dragons.”

Scorch looked at me confused and I told him.

“You get to fly so high up in the sky and be free and you go wherever you want, it’s really cool.”

I spoke with a grin and then Scorch smirked at me before he flew towards the city and then he transformed back into Dominic before anyone else saw him. Dominic caught me in his arms like a bride and then he puts me down on the ground.

“If you’d like, I’d be more than happy to carry you around Krotalas the next time you visit us. I also think the other dragon shifters will be pleased about that as well.”

I smiled at Dominic’s suggestion and then I nodded my head. Dominic walked me home and I felt a little nervous since my grandparents are gonna kill me.

"*Sighs* time to face the music.”

“Good luck,” Dominic spoke with a smirk.

I elbowed his arm and I told him.

“Watch it.”

Dominic chuckled before I opened the front door and then Grandfather appeared and he started scolding me.

“Amelia Saumoux! where have you been?! we’ve been worried sick about you!”

"Um, hi Grandfather."

"Don't hi me, missy! we called Sarah and her parents and you weren't there for the sleepover like you told us! Sarah told us where you were."

"That woman is dead meat when I get my hands on her," I mumbled.

"I heard you got drunk last night and you did a disappearing act during the party and Ryan and Sarah couldn't find you!"

"Grandfather, before you explode, I have a very good reason for disappearing and coming back this late during the day, you see-"

"It was my fault," Dominic spoke up when he came into the house.

"Who're you?"

"My name is Dominic, I'm new to the neighbourhood and I was also at the party last night. Poor Amelia drank too much that I had to take her back to my place it was the only route that I know and she kinda passed out after we left."

"You didn't try anything with her did you?" Grandfather asked with a glare.

"No Sir, I would never take an advantage over a lovely lady like Amelia," Dominic spoke before winking at me.

"Oh yeah, Dominic slept on the couch while I rested on his bed. Anyway, after I woke up this morning and after recovering from a bad hangover, Dominic and I had breakfast and then I decided to show him around town so he can use to the area. We've been pretty out all day and that's the honest truth."

Grandfather glared at me for a moment and then he sighed a little.

"Okay fine, I believe you."

I sighed in relief and then Grandmother came into the room and then she looked relieved when she saw me.

"Amelia! thank goodness you're all- oh my!" Grandmother looked at Dominic and I think I saw her eyes lit up when she saw him.

Grandmother shoved Grandfather out of the way and she said to Dominic.

"Hello and welcome to our home, my name is Sophie and this is my husband, Johnny."

"Nice to meet you, Miss."

Dominic said as he shook hands with Grandmother. Grandmother then smiled at him and she nudged her elbow on my arm with a grin on her face.

"He's handsome and a gentleman."

"Grandmother, please!" I spoke with a frown.

Grandmother giggled and then she said to Dominic.

"Why don't you stay for dinner? besides, it'll be nice to know about our new neighbour."

"Sounds good to me."

I spoke with a smile on my face before Grandmother left to get dinner started. Once my grandparents were gone, I sighed in annoyance.

"Sorry about that, my grandparents a bit...odd."

"*Chuckle* you mean that in a good way right?"

"Kind of, my Grandfather is of the protective one in the family and my Grandmother is the kind and caring one."

"What about your parents don't you live with them?"

Dominic asked as we sat down on the couch. I shook my head for a no and I told him.

"My parents died when I was just a baby and I hardly knew what they were like when they were alive."

Dominic looked at me shocked and then he gave me that pitty look on his face.

"I'm sorry I asked now."

"Hey don't give me that look, I'm not upset about it. My Grandmother talks about them to me all time when I was little and she still does. I never get sick and tired of hearing about them."

"Well, don't you have anything that once belonged to them?"

"I do, this."

I showed Dominic the locket I was wearing and then I opened it to show him the only picture I have of my father and my mother when she was pregnant with me.

"This is the only photo I have of my parents together."

"Now I know where you got your looks from, your mother looks beautiful, like a Princess."

"Hehe, that's what my Grandfather used to tell me."

I spoke with a smile and then Grandmother came back into the living room and she said to me.

"Dominic, Amelia, dinner is ready."

"Great I'm starving," I spoke with a smile and then we stood up from the couch before heading into the dining room.

Once we got there, Dominic pulled my chair out for me and then I sat down and he gently pushes it for me, like the gentleman he is.

"Thanks, Dominic."

"You're welcome."

"Oh, what a gentleman," Grandmother spoke with a grin on her face while I shook my head at her.

Grandfather was about to sit next to her until she cleared her throat with a small frown.

"Aren't you gonna pull out my chair for me?"

"Why would I?"

Grandfather asked her before sitting down. I held back a laugh when he said and did this. Grandmother sat down with a small frown on her face before serving mac and cheese for me and Dominic with some chips on the side.

"I hope you don't mind having Mac and cheese with chips, I forgot to go shopping today."

"Not at all, it's not like this is a special occasion or anything."

"Not yet~" Grandmother spoke with a smirk on her face.

"Grandmother!!" I yelled at her.

"What? it's the truth if this relationship goes well."

I blushed in embarrassment before covering my face and I looked at Grandfather for help.

"Grandfather, please stop her! she's embarrassing me!"

"Okay, sweetie, you've talked enough. Besides, Amelia and Dominic have only known each other what? a few days now?"

"Something like that."

I spoke in a nervous tone. Dominic snickered when he saw my reaction.

"What are you laughing at?"

"Oh, its nothing."

Dominic cleared his throat and then we tucked into my grandmother's famous mac and cheese. My grandparents asked a few questions about Dominic and his life and I half hoped that he didn't spill the beans that he's the real King of Whitebrook castle. However, Dominic was able to fool them by saying that he moved here because he was training to become a lawyer and I couldn't believe they took the bait.

After we had dinner, Dominic and I were in the living room chilling out while letting our stomachs settle and of course, Grandmother was making her famous hot chocolate. Once they were ready, my grandparents came into the living room and then Grandmother came back with a tray of four cups of hot chocolate, one for me, one for Dominic and the other two were for my grandparents.

Once Dominic and I got our mugs, Grandmother got hers and she told Grandfather.

"We'll be in the kitchen if you need us."

"Hang on, I'm not leaving those two alone!"

"Oh yes you are, now back off!" Grandmother shouted before she shoved Grandfather out of the living room.

Dominic and I started laughing once they were gone and then he said to me.

"Well, they were something weren't they?"

"Ugh, don't remind me. Now you know where I got that stubborn side from."

"Your Grandfather's I'm guessing?"

"Yep," I told him before taking a sip of the hot chocolate.

Dominic sipped the hot chocolate and he licked his lips afterwards.

"Hmm...this is good, I've never had hot chocolate before or spend any family time for that matter."

"Oh yeah? what was your family like before you became the you-know-what."

" dad was always busy with his duties and the only time when I saw him was at the dinner table and he didn't have much to say and my mother...well, she always found time to bond with me. She would let me sit on her lap while she taught me to read and write and she would also let me sleep in her bed whenever dad had to stay up all night due to him being the King."

"What happened to them?"

"My mother died of a sudden illness and when my father lost her, he would find an opportunity to go out onto the battlefield and hopefully kill himself. He was once known as the War Lord of Whitebrook since he was well known for lust for battle but deep down he was a heartbroken man. Eventually, it got to the point when he got too old to be on the throne and then he died of old age."

"And that's when you took the throne, it's also where you got that bloodlust from, wasn't it?"

"It was," Dominic stared at the half-empty mug his hand and he looked a bit sad for a moment before he snapped out of it. "But, all is not lost."

"If I hadn't angered Lelia and if I didn't get cursed, I wouldn't have met you."

Dominic told me as he stroked my cheek making me smile at him.

"Oh, you're such a sweetheart."

Dominic chuckled when I called him that and then he finished drinking his hot chocolate. We got to the front door and he told us

"Thanks for the dinner and the hot chocolate, but, I better get home."

"Are you sure you don't want to stay for another few minutes?" Grandmother asked him.

"Sorry, I gotta get up early in the morning, training starts tomorrow."

"All well, be sure to come and visit again sometime."

"I will."

Dominic spoke with a smile before my Grandparents left to give us a moment alone. I snickered a little and then I shook my head.

"Oh good grief, what a pair of oddballs."

"*Chuckle* but, I still enjoyed though. Tell your Grandmother for me that I can't wait to try her cooking again."

"I will, see you tomorrow after college?"

"Try and stop me," Dominic told me before he leaned in and kisses my cheek.

I smiled a little when he did this and then he left the house after saying bye to me. I blushed a little and I touched the spot where Dominic kissed me.

Grandmother spoke up and I glared at her.

"How long have you been standing there?!"

"Long enough," Grandmother spoke with a grin making me roll my eyes at her.

Dominic may have been a different person when he was still a King but, after learning more about him, it has made me realise he's not as ruthless or dangerous as the legend told us about him.
