Chapter 27: Exploring The Dark Realm (Part 2)

Xaldin and I were in the Vampire King's home and I have to admit, despite its creepy appearance on the outside, the inside looked amazing. It had that victorian look while combined with a few modern items on the inside. We were in the patio having lunch with him Adam and he was telling me more about Xaldin after he became a dragon shifter.

"So let me get this straight, you two were in a fight and it ended in a draw? how is that possible? Xaldin's dragon form has got to be at least the size of a house."

"*Chuckle* true but, his dragon spirit did come from a Dragon Lord that cursed him so he had a few tricks up his sleeve."

Xaldin nodded his head in agreement before speaking up.

"That's right, in the end, we decided to become allies after the dark realm was created."

"And you two are no longer rivals?"

"Well, we have our moments here and there."

Adam told me with a smirk before looking at Xaldin.

"She's a lovely lady Xaldin, don't screw it up like what you did with the woman you tried to win over."

"Don't worry, I won't mess it up this time."

I was confused for a moment until I realised who he was talking about.

"You're talking about Elizabeth, aren't you?"

Xaldin looked at me surprised and asked me.

"How did you know that?"

"...Dominic told me," I spoke with a frown while feeling that awful hatred in my heart.

'Why did I say it like that? what on earth is wrong with me?! I can't control my emotions!'

I thought to myself before Xaldin frowned and then Adam said to him.

"Calm down, Xaldin. She's not with him right now is she?"

"I can't help it, just hearing his name makes my blood boil."

I glanced at Adam and he nudged his head to tell me, 'calm him down.' I knew what had to do so I placed my hand on top of Xaldin's and then he calmed down.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said his name out loud. I've made you angry, didn't I?"

Xaldin's eyes widen and then he held my hand and he said to me.

"No, don't worry, I'm not angry. As long as you're around, I'll always be calm."

I smiled at him and then Adam cleared his throat.

"Can you two save the mushy stuff in your own room or at least out of my mansion."

"Heh, you're just jealous because I was able to find a beautiful woman like Amelia."

Adam frowned and then his eyes glowed red. I smacked Xaldin upside his head and I said to him.

"Xaldin! be nice!"

"Sorry..." He grumbled and then Adam started chuckling.

"Watch out, Xaldin. She may be a beauty but, she's feisty at the same time."

"Yeah I know but, that's what I like about her," Xaldin told him before winking at me.

I blushed when said this and then turned away from him to hide my red face.

"Stop it, Xaldin! you're making me blush!"

'Wait! why did I blush?! why am I not afraid of this man?!'

I asked myself before Xaldin chuckled and then he said to Adam.

"Anyway, thanks for the lunch but, we should get going. I'm still showing Amelia the realm."

"All right," Adam spoke with a smile before we headed back to the entrance hall.

"It was nice meeting you Amelia, I hope I can see you again if Xaldin allows it."

"I would like that thank you, Adam."

I spoke as Adam kisses the back of my hand before leaving the mansion. Xaldin and I held hands as we walked through the woods and then I asked him.

"So where are we going next?"

"We're going to see the kelpies."

"Didn't we see them yesterday?"

"We did but, you didn't get to see them up close did you?"

"Not really but, if they decide to let me ride on their backs, they won't drown me, will they?"

"No, of course not but if they do, they'll have me to deal with."

I smiled when he said this and then we got to the lake. I looked around and I asked him.

"Where are they?"

"They're around here somewhere," Xaldin told me as he got a bag filled with apples and carrots.

"Wait, kelpies eat like normal horses? I thought they only eat meat considering..."

"They do but, we prefer to treat them like normal horses to stop their blood lust."

"Really? wow, I didn't think it was possible."

"Neither did I until I met one of them and since then, they've been eating apples and other normal foods."

"How did you meet one?"

I asked Xaldin as he tossed a couple of apples into the lake and then he held the last one in his hand. I looked at where the apples landed and then we watched them disappear really quickly. I was surprised at first and then Xaldin said to me.

"When I was out on the lake fishing one day until I dropped one of the apples into the lake. I was about to grab it until it disappeared from my sight. I didn't know how that happen until I saw the head of a horse poking its head out of the water and that was when I realised it was a kelpie. It was only a baby at the time and then its mother showed up. Long story short, I started feeding the kelpies with apples and carrots and other vegetables that regular horses like to eat and we became friends, including the one I first met. I named her Milly."

"Aw, what a cute name."

"...Milly was also my sister's name."

I was surprised when he told me this and then I said to him.

"You never told me you had a sister."

"She died when she was an infant, I think she died of what you guys call sudden cot death syndrome."

I felt sorry for him and then we saw bubbles in the water. I leaned over a little before Xaldin held out the apple. We waited for a moment and then something jumped out of the water. I squealed in fright and I landed on my backside. Xaldin laughed at my reaction and he asked me.

"Are you okay?"

"Aside from nearly having a heart attack and wetting my pants, I'm fine thanks."

Xaldin chuckled as I sat up and then I heard the cutest neigh I've heard. I crawled over to the lake's edge and there it was a kelpie. It was a green colour with black mane and it has a fishtail instead of hind legs and it has front legs with hooves. The kelpie neighed at Xaldin and then he said to it.

"Here you go girl, catch!" The female kelpie went under and then it leapt out of the water to catch the apple in its mouth like a dog.

"Wow! So that's Milly?"

Milly, the kelpie, swam over to me and then she neighed at me before climbing onto the lake's edge. I moved away from her so she has some space before climbing onto land. She crawled over to me and then she gently nudged her muzzle at my face. I giggled a little and then I carefully petted her head.

"Aw, you're so cute. Has she always been this small?"

"I'm afraid so. From what I've been able to research about these guys, Milly is one of the rare cases. In other words, she's a runt. I've kept her in this lake for many centuries and she hasn't gotten any bigger. She's practically the size of a Shetland pony."

"Oh dear, poor girl."

Milly neighed at me before rubbing her head on my chest making me laugh. Xaldin chuckled and he said to me.

"Aw, I think Milly likes you."

"I think she likes me too."

I said as I petted Milly's face. Milly backed away from me and then she dived back into the water before poking her head out. She neighed at me while playing in the water.

"What is she doing?"

"She's calling for her friends, look."

I looked straight ahead and then a few more kelpies appeared. Four of them swam over to us and then one of them nudged their muzzle on my hand making me pet him. I smiled at the kelpie and then I spoke up.

"It's a herd of kelpies."

"It may be a small herd but, they're still amazing to look at and play with."

"Wait, what?"

I looked at Xaldin and then he had that mischievous look on his face. He came over to me and then he suddenly lifts me by the waist.

"Ahh!! Xaldin, what are you doing?!"

"*Whistle* come on fellas, time for one of you to give this lovely lady a ride."

Xaldin called out to one of the kelpies before one of them leapt out of the water and climbed onto land. The kelpie lowered onto the ground before Xaldin placed me on the back of it.

"Uh, Xaldin, what's going on?!"

"Don't panic my dear, trust me, you'll enjoy the ride."

Xaldin told me before he also got on the back of a kelpie. I held onto the kelpie's mane before he went in the water. I shivered when he swam in the water. The kelpies neighed happily as they swam in the lake.

"You do this all the time?"

"Only when I have the time, yes."

Milly neighed as she leapt out of the water like a dolphin. I laughed when she did this.

"You know, when I saw these kelpies, I kept thinking they were going to drown me the minute I get on it's back. Grandfather told me about these guys."

"Well, they're not so bad are they?"

"Not really, I take back everything I said about them."

I said as I patted the kelpie's neck. The kelpie that I was riding on, glanced at me and then it reared up.

"Uh oh, hold your breath!" Xaldin shouted as his kelpie did the same before they dived underwater.

I held onto the kelpie's mane for dear life as they dived underwater. Luckily I have the mermaid's scale with me so I was okay breathing underwater. The kelpies swam to the bottom of the lake. I saw a school of fish swimming by us and we saw a few more kelpies swimming by us. The kelpies neighed at us and then the ones that we've been riding swam back to the surface and then Xaldin and I got our breaths back, well, Xaldin did.

I moved my wet hair out of my face and then I chuckled afterwards.

"That was amazing!"

"I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, come on, let's get back to the castle so we can warm up."

"Sounds good to me, come on guys, take us home."

The kelpies neighed at us and then they carried us back to shore that was near the castle. I had an amazing time with Xaldin but, a part of me wondered why I was starting to fall for this guy and why felt all of this hatred towards Dominic. I know it was one small fight we had but, why does it feel like I'm betraying him?
