Chapter 9: He's Not The Scary Dragonslayer or The King of Whitebrook Castle

Krotolas Mansion
Amelia

I turned on my side and I felt comfortable right now and I didn’t feel like moving. Just then, I felt something walk on top of me and then something furry touched my face.

“Hehe...stop it, Grandfather,” I spoke in a sleepy tone.

I heard a purring sound and once my eyes adjusted, I spotted Aoi next to me. Aoi licked my face and I giggled when he did this.

“All right, all right. I’m awake.”

I said as I sat up. I looked around and I realised I wasn’t in my room and I was confused at first until I remembered last night’s events. Shay’s party, Shay attacking me like that, Dominic saving me and then...

“Did Dominic bring me back here?” I asked Aoi before he nodded his head.

I looked at the room and it was fancy. The bed that I was sleeping in was king-sized, some of the furniture had that antique look to it and I looked at myself and I was wearing a nightgown. I began to wonder who had changed me until the door opened.

“Oh good you’re awake,” A familiar voice spoke.

I looked who spoke and it was Axel.

“You’re...Axel right?”

“Of course, it’s nice to have you back under the circumstances.”

“...So, you know about what happened last night didn’t you?”

“Yeah, I’m surprised you’re not traumatised.”

I nodded my head in agreement and I asked him.

"Axel, who changed me?"

"One of the female dragon shifters changed you while you slept."

I sighed in relief before Axel placed a tray of food on my lap.

“Dominic knew you’d be hungry so he asked me to bring this up for you and there’s also a change of clothes in the wardrobe.”

“Why couldn’t he tell me that himself?”

“He had some business to take care of and he won’t be back until later.”

“All right thanks, Axel.”

I told him before he left the room. I looked at the food that Axel gave me and it was a grilled breakfast. There was eggs, bacon, toast, sausages and a hash brown. I tried some of the food and it was tasty.

“Yummy, this is good. Whoever made this has put my Grandmother’s cooking skills to shame.”

Aoi purred in agreement and he gave me that puppy eye look that was telling me ‘please feed me.’ I giggled a little and then I have him a bit of my bacon and he happily took it. Once I was finished with breakfast, I placed the tray outside of my room and then I went into the wardrobe to get changed. Thankfully, Dominic had some clothes that were in my size and they looked pretty cool too.

I’m now wearing a red tartan shirt with a black t-shirt underneath it, grey skinny jeans and black and white converse shoes. I tied my hair into a ponytail and then Aoi leapt onto my shoulder. I giggled when he did this and I tickled him underneath his chin.

“Those clothes suit you.”

I jumped in fright when that familiar voice spoke up. I turned around and Dominic was sitting there on the railing of the balcony with a smirk on his face.

“W-Where did you come from and how long have you been there!?”

“Not long,” Dominic told me as he casually got off the railing of the balcony.

I looked at the clothes that I was wearing and I asked him.

“I’m actually surprised that you have clothes in my size, should I ask where you got them from?”

“I asked a friend of mine to let me borrow her clothes for a while and she gladly accepted since...” Dominic took a step closer to me and then he leaned closer to my ear. “Since you’re my mate.”

I felt a shiver through my spine and then I took a step back from him.

“Anyway, thanks for the breakfast and for saving me last night. I didn’t know what had gotten into Shay, I’ve never seen him like that before.”

I said as I recalled last night’s events. Dominic frowned a little and he placed his hands on my shoulders.

“Amelia, what were you thinking? you shouldn’t have gone to that party and getting yourself drunk stupid like that.”

“I know and I shouldn’t have done that. I’m so sorry.”

“Well, I’m just happy you’re all right before that guy did anything to you. Anyway...” Dominic released my shoulders and then he took my hand. “Come with me, I want to show you something amazing.”

I was confused by this until Dominic scoops me up in his arms like a bride. I squeaked in shock before I wrapped my arms around his neck. Dominic walked towards the balcony and then he stepped onto the railing.

“W-Wait, what are you-”

My sentence was interrupted when Dominic suddenly jumped off the railing. I screamed in fear until a dragon flew towards us and then we landed on his back. Dominic held me close and he smirked at me.

“You okay?”

“It’s not funny!! I thought I was gonna die!”

“Relax, you’re fine, look.”

I looked at the view and it was amazing. I got a great view of the landscape of Krotolas. I smiled at this view and then I saw a few more dragons fly beside us.

"Those dragons are not only my best warriors but, they're also my friends."

"So, are you guys some kind of pack."

"You could say that but, the correct term for us is Horde. It sounds better than a pack, it makes us sound weak."

I giggled when he said this and then the dragon that we were riding on, descended to the ground and I held onto Dominic for dear life. Once we landed onto the ground, Dominic helped me off the dragon and my legs felt like jelly.

"Whoa, are you okay?"

"I think so, my legs are feeling like jelly right now."

"Don't worry, you'll get used to it."

"Where are we?"

I asked as I looked around. We had arrived at a large lake and we saw many more dragons in many different colours and sizes.

"We're at Aqua's lake, it's where the dragons tend to gather and relax here. In other words, it's like a paradise here for them."

I was impressed by this and then Dominic took me by the hand and he started to show me around. I met dragons who used different elements, different sizes and some of them were also dragon shifters like Dominic. We sat down on the grass and then Dominic got some fruit for us and he said to me.

"Here, try these, they're good."

I took an apple from his hand and then I took a bite of it.

"It's good."

"Told you," Dominic spoke with a grin on his face.

Just then, one of the baby dragons came over to me and then it sat on my lap while the other two curled up next to my legs.

"Whoa! what the?!"

"*Chuckles* looks like the hatchlings have taken a liking to you."

The blue hatchling came over to me and then it let me pet its head.

"Aww, they're so cute."

"They're not so cute when they're first born, trust me, I nearly got second-degree burns from one of the fire dragon hatchlings."

I held back a laugh when he said this. Just then one of the smaller hatchlings climbed onto my shoulder and then it licked my cheek. I giggled a little when the hatchling did this and then it started licking and chewing on my hair.

"Hey, now what is the hatchling doing?"

"Hahaha! I think Crystal likes you."

"Crystal? you mean this is a girl dragon? how can you tell?"

"When you've studied dragons and being one for as long as I have, you will know."

"I see."

I spoke with a smile before Crystal got off my shoulder and then she curled up into a ball after climbing onto my lap. I smiled at her before stroking her back.

I looked at the horizon and I watched a few of the dragons fly through the sky or they were chilling near the lake in their dragon form or in their human forms.

"This place is amazing, how on earth did you discover it?"

"I didn't, I actually asked a friend of mine to create it."

"Oh yeah?"

"As the medieval times began to end, I asked the last of the witches to create this domain under the castle."

"Did anyone else know about you and that you are a dragon?"

"I wanted to let my people know that I was still alive but, how do you expect them to trust me after I got cursed? I mean was known as the Dragon Slayer for a while until Lelia turned me into a...a monster."

I could see the hurt and anger in Dominic's eyes. It is clear that a part of him hates being a dragon but the other half enjoys it even though he's suffering from loneliness. How else would he have found me?

I placed my hand on top of his and I told him.

"Do you know what I think?"

"Hm?" Dominic looked at me and I smiled at him.

"I think you're one of the bravest and well...handsome man I've met. It's true that I was afraid of you when I saw your dragon form but, that was before I got to know you."

"So you're saying...you're not scared of me anymore?"

I shook my head for a no and I told him.

"Not anymore, not after seeing all of this. If you'd like...do you think maybe...we could give it a go? you know, with this...mates situation?"

Dominic's eyes lit up when I asked him this and then he held both of my hands and he smiled at me.

"Amelia, of course! I would like to be your boyfriend.. oh sorry! spoke too soon?"

I giggled at his awkwardness before I kissed his forehead which made him blush bright red.

"Not at all."

Dominic glanced away from me when I saw his red face. I giggled at him and then we heard someone in the bushes and they whispered.

"Ouch! watch it, you idiot!"

Dominic and I looked at the sources of those voices and we continued to hear them whisper.

"My bad."

"Don't make too much noise, this is a big moment for Dominic."

"I know but, he's being a bit awkward around her."

Dominic and I smirked at each other and we knew exactly who was whispering about us. We approached the bushes and we moved the shrubs out of the way and we found Axel and Midnight hiding there and they both jumped in fright when they saw us.

"Axel and Midnight, why am I not surprised you two were spying on us," Dominic spoke with a frown.

"Oh uh, hi boss, Amelia," Axel waved innocently at us.

I shook my head at those two while Crystal growled and hissed at those two.

"Good grief, Dominic, do you have scary Dragon shifters or children on your side?"

"Do you know what? I've been asking myself that question for a very long time."

I laughed at his comment when he told me this. It felt nice spending time with Dominic and made me realise, he's not the scary Dragonslayer or the King of Whitebrook as they described him in the legend.
