Sixteen

"Wake up, little one", a dark voice whispered into my ears. My eyes snapped open and met with the smoldering one of my mate.

"You're still here?", I whispered looking around, making sure that pack members are asleep. From the darkness surrounding us, it's safe to say the morning is not far from now. He must be leaving now that's why he woke me up. I was proven right with his next sentence.

"I'll leave now", he nodded his head. The sadness crept inside of me. I'm not sure when we'll meet again, I mean I'm never sure when he'll surprise me.

"When will I see you again?", without giving any second thought I blurted out, cussing in my head afterward. My cheeks heated up and thanks to the darkness, it hides my burning cheeks from his gaze.

"Soon", his vague reply didn't please me but I nodded nonetheless. I can't expect anything more than I'm getting. I have to appreciate every single moment moon goddess has granted me with him. I shouldn't complain considering our situation.

He opened his mouth to say something but choose not to, instead, he turned on his heels and left, not before making my toe curl with his intense kiss.

I looked at his back until he blends into the shadows. My head fell back and before I start to overthink, I closed my eyes and counted to ten. Weirdly it worked and I soon fall into a deep slumber, unaware of the shadow that lurked in the darkness, watching, making sure I fell asleep before he leaves.

Morning sun blazed down on my face, waking me up from my deep slumber. Thankfully, all the warriors are already up and burying the bodies.

"You should have woke me up", I said as I helped them drag the bodies to the ground, while two of the warriors cover them with soil.

"You were in deep sleep so we let you sleep", I smiled at their sweet gesture and gave them a simple nod in reply.

"We were lucky he backed off, otherwise this would have been our pack", one of the warrior pack warriors said and then shuddered, looking at all the bodies we have piled together. I gulped and don't know what I should say so I stayed silent.

"Why did he stop mid-attack though?", another one commented. Sweat trickled down my back. How will they react if they ever find out their Alpha is betraying them? Surely I'll be banished from the pack.

"From what the tales say he never let his prey live, this is the first time", one more warrior commented.

"It wouldn't be long before the words go out, every other pack will be curious too", the fourth warrior said. Shit, I forgot this is going to blow up. I have been so wrapped in my bubble I neglected the fact that when this goes out, the Alphas of other packs would meddle and want to know why the infamous, bloodthirsty Alpha suddenly stop the attack in the middle.

When that time comes I'd have to answer but what will I say? That he is my mate so he spared the lives of my pack? I can already tell that would go well. Note the sarcasm.

If they know about my mate I'm sure they'll capture me to lure my mate in. They'll kill him and then me. I can fight an Alpha or two but I won't be able to able to fight all the Alpha from all over the world.

"What do you think, Alpha?", the warrior who started the topic asked me, cutting my thoughts off.

"About?", I asked, faking that I have no clue what is going on.

"Why did he back off?", he asked curiously. I was so tempted to come up with a smart reply but I don't think this is the time for the sass.

"I don't know", I said and then ignore them. They got the message that I'm not going to take part in the gossip. They stopped talking about the rogue Alpha and changed their attention to some other topic.

"Um Alpha, how should we bury that?", the warrior pointed towards the few bodies which are torn apart limb from limb. I tried not to gag as I pointed to the sheets we have used to cover the mattress. They understood and put the body on the sheet to carry towards the hole.

"Hurry up", I said, turning my head the other way from the gut-wrecking scene. It is safe to say I'll not be eating anything today either.

"It's done", I looked at the poor warrior who looked like he's about to puke. We wolves are no stranger to bloodshed but seeing the other wolves with all their insides laying out is hard and nauseating.

"Then let's go back", we've been away from the pack for enough time. I don't trust Beta Issac with my pack so we should hurry before he does something in my absence.

"Shift", I commanded and shifted into my wolf form, tearing the cloth I'm wearing by doing so.

Without looking back I took off at full speed, knowing my pack warriors are following behind me, making sure to keep the distance but will be able to protect each other if someone attacks.

The journey back home was a long one. With nothing to think about it was boring but my wolf kept me busy with her mindless banter.

Alpha, you have to hurry. Josh's panicked voice rang through the mind link.

What happened? I asked as I increased my pace. He was silent for a while before he replied.

It's Beta Issac. Thats all he needs to say. I cussed him in the head and made my way towards the packhouse at full speed. I threw the door slam open and barged inside my room. Once I finished getting dressed I went towards the training ground because Josh asked me to come there.

My blood boiled when I found Beta Issac pinning a male from the pack down in a deadlock, but what really made me angry was the blue mark on the face of the member. There is no doubt that Beta Issac has beaten him up. That fucker, how dare he beat the pack member in my absence.

"Get up and let go of the poor man", reluctantly beta Issac got up, throwing a dirty look towards Josh as if he was the one who has beaten the man.

"May I know what is happening here?", I asked with a raised brow. Beta Issac opened his mouth to say something but stopped when I raised my hand towards him. I then turned towards the man he has beaten up.

"Tell me what you did to make our dear Beta unhappy?", I asked him. He looked at Beta Issac first who warned him through his eyes. I rolled my eyes at his obvious gesture. Does he think I'm stupid? If so then he has other things coming his way.

"You tell me, Josh", I turned to Josh for the answer because the poor man was too afraid to go against the Beta of the pack.

"Beta Issac was taking advantage of his authority, he wants the man to give his sister to him for a night, and when the man refused Beta Issac beat him up for the disrespect", Josh spat out and then glared at Beta Issac. This is not the first time Issac has tried something like that but it'll be the first time he gets punished for it. My dad has ignored his disgusting act but I'll not let him get away.
