“Briiiiing.” The final bell for the afternoon, pierced my ears, I’m still trying to block out the loud noises. It feels like a thousand different needles, stabbing my ears, all at once.
I jumped out of my seat, and walked out of the classroom door. To see Brent waiting outside. “You ready?” He asked. I nodded, with a kind smile. And we walked out to his car.
We both hoped in his car, and headed off towards the cinemas. Once we were there, I remembered I hadn’t texted Cole to tell him not to wait for me, at the car. Then, if I text him, he’ll know that I’m with Brent. And he’ll ruin this.
He’s just going to have to cope, because he can’t control my life.
Brent and I bought a bucket of popcorn, malteasers and two bottles of water. And we payed for the tickets, and found our seats. Our seats were right at the back, directly in the middle.
Half way through the movie, Brent spoke up. “So, what do you and Zaya get up to, on the weekends?” He asked, curiously.
“Nothing much.” I said, concentrating on the movie.
“What’s Zaya’s favourite genre, in movies?” He asked.
He was asking a lot of questions, about Zaya. There was something wrong.
“Horror, action, same as me.” I said.
“Cool, does she like the outdoors, or is she more of an indoors person?” Brent asked, turning his whole body around, to face me.
‘Why is he asking so much about Zaya?’ I asked Leah.
‘I don’t know, something’s not adding up.’ She responded.
“Outdoors.” I answered, still watching the movie.
“What’s her favourite food?” Brent asked.
‘No, I’ve had enough.’ I said to Leah.
“Why are you asking so many questions about her?” I asked him. Finally turning, to face him.
“What do you mean?” He asked, looking taken aback.
“Why are you asking so many questions, about Zaya.” I asked, getting irritated now.
“Well, I thought that I could learn more about her.” He said.
“What?” I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.
“I wanted to learn more about her.” He said, innocently. “And I tried, to ask her out, but she didn’t seem interested, so I thought that I could learn more about her.” He said, shrugging.
“And what, take me to the movies, to make her jealous?” I asked. He nodded, with a bored expression, on his face.
“Unbelievable.” I said, standing up.
“What?” He asked.
“You.” I said, gesturing towards him.
“You used me.” I said.
“And?” He asked.
‘How dare he.’ I growled, to Leah.
Just then, someone bursted, through the doors. Cole.
“Sam, what are you doing, I told you that you can’t be around him.” Cole said.
I grabbed, the bucket of popcorn, and poured it over Brent’s head.
“Stay away, from Zaya and I.” I ordered, pointing in Brents face. He was angry, that I tipped the popcorn on him, but I was angrier.
“Let’s go home.” I said, to Cole. And walked out of the theatre room. Cole stood there, in the doorway, for a few seconds. Unsure, of what just happened, and why.
When I waited for Sam, for half an hour, at the car, and she didn’t come, I freaked out at first. Then I remembered, she wanted to go to the movies with Brent. I rushed to the theatre, and barged through the doors.
“Sam, what are you doing, I told you that you can’t be around him.” I said.
She was standing up, next to Brent. And she grabbed the bucket of popcorn, and poured it on his head.
“Stay away, from Zaya and I.” She ordered, pointing in Brents face.
“Let’s go home.” She said, walking past me and through the doors, out of the theatre. I stood there in shock, trying to process the situation, confused.
Until, I moved, taking big steps towards him, up the steps. I hit him once in the nose. “Stay away.” I ordered, threatingly. He nodded, vigorously. Holding his nose.
I came out of the theatre, to see Sam, leaning against my car, waiting. We both got in, with complete silence. The ride home, was filled with silence, but comfortable silence. Neither of us knew what to say. Didn’t have anything to say, or just didn’t want to say anything.
