Footsteps echoed through the empty halls of the Academy, followed by a loud door slam, the darkness of the night outside crept through the windows despite it only being 3:43pm. Something was coming, and it was far too late to stop it now, now all we can do is try to survive it.

I slowly opened the classroom door again, and took a few steps outside, it was deadly silent, I looked outside at the dark black clouds, I felt a sinking feeling, I wasn’t getting out of this alive. I took a deep sigh and took out my pad, if I leave a record of what happened here... the other cities could be warned... they could perhaps be saved. So here I go, I’m sending this to you, you always knew what to do when things went sideways.

It started this morning, it was a day like any other at the Academy, we were learning how to use and control our powers, in between slacking off and dozing off in class, I guess. I was in mathematics, yeah, I know what you’re thinking, but even Academy students need to learn basic education.

The teacher was droning on about subtracting the quantum decimal of the 4th regiment of Disceath or some crap like that, when a loud bang went off outside, some other students panicked, I however just put it down to some first year blowing up a teacher's car by accident, you know the usual. That’s when another loud explosion went off, followed by two more. I stood up straight and looked out the window...

I couldn’t believe my eyes, a whole legion of troops were stood out there, but this wasn’t some invasion force from Aranei, or some military parade... To be honest, I don’t know who they are, they were just stood watching, in their steel armour, as they sent their creatures running toward the school. The explosions must have been to wake us up I guess. The city surrounding was in flames... I don’t know how they hid it from us, how we didn’t hear... I’ve never seen powers like that.

The teacher instructed us to leave the classroom, I tried to tell him we needed to be out there, to protect the school... to protect the city, but he was having none of it, the rest of my class had already evacuated, good thing too, because before we knew it, a giant winged beast tore through the roof. I got a close look at it as it towered over me... I can only describe it as some kind of bat, but it had, seven, maybe eight eyes, and a beak too, it’s beat was as long as a fully grown adult human.

I ran out of the class as fast as I could, I heard the teacher scream in pain behind me, but I didn’t dare look back, I just ran, and have been running and hiding since then, around an hour ago, everything fell silent. I don’t know what happened, I don’t know if the others survived. Is it just me... I don’t even hear the legion.

I sent the message, I hope it reaches you. As for me? I guess it's time to face whatever is coming, I headed out into the dining hall, as soon as I walked in I spotted her... a woman dressed in a blue and white outfit, the same as those troops I saw

“Long live the light” She said, her face blank, and shot a crystal of pure light at me, of course my training paid off and I blocked it with a shield of fire.

“Oh no” I uttered as the shard of crystal pierced right through the fire shield and right into my heart. I fell to the floor, my vision blurring, the woman walked over.

“Don’t worry my child, this isn't the end, it is only the beginning”
