How is this possible? She was guarded and locked in a cell specifically meant to hold wolves. How in the hell could she have possibly escaped? Alex was shaking with rage, continuously telling me that he gets to kill her now, after we find her of course. He was trying to figure out how she managed to get out, questioning all the guards that were on duty, one by one. I sat by him silently, not paying much attention to the interrogations. Thinking of the little note she left behind.Don’t worry, I’ll be back. xo
It is clear to me that she had to of had help, but the question is who? I knew Alex would be able to figure that out so I focused on what she could possibly do next. What is her plan? Obviously, she wants me dead. She wants Alex for herself. Clearly, she will stop at nothing to get him, so what could she have up her sleeve?
Another thing that keeps floating in my mind is her mate. If she could just meet her mate, she would leave me and mine alone. I wish there was a way to find her mate for her and present him to her. Get her mind focused on the one meant for her instead of killing me to get Alex.
Huffing out a breath, Alex turned to me. “None of these guards seen anything, but one of them has a big gash on the side of his head. So, we are thinking it was during shift change. He didn’t see who knocked him out so this makes it harder on us.” He was pissed. I get it, I’m pretty upset about this string of events also. However, I knew she’d be back, not just because her note stated that fact, but because I’m still alive.
Placing my hand over his, I soothed him. “Alex, it will be okay. I’m betting that she will be back soon, so we will just wait for her next move. We will have to try to be ready for whatever it is. We know that her goal is to kill me, and get you to be hers, so we will have to prepare for anything she could possibly throw at us.”
His eyes close tightly as he inhaled before letting it out in a big puff. Looking over at me, his eyes softening. “You’re right. I’m not going to let anything happen to you and I can assure you, I will never be hers. Not even just because you’re my mate, but because I’m going to kill the bitch once we find her.” Ignoring his last sentence, I found comfort in his words. They were reassuring and I knew he meant them.
The following few days everyone was on guard. Ready for a fight and ready for Tessa to show up to cause chaos. But as the days pass without sign of her, my stomach clenches in anticipation. The anxiety in the atmosphere almost palpable.
It was a Friday morning, I woke and helped the ladies with breakfast before my nerves overcame me. I found myself sitting down at the piano, staring at the keys basically willing them to whisper to me what Tessa’s plan was. It’s ridiculous for me to be so nervous. I know I could take Tessa in combat, easily. However, what scared me was the fact she always seems to be 3 steps ahead of me.
In honesty, I’m shocked that she is even intelligent enough to come up with such a thought-out plan. The bathroom incident proving to me that she was a little brighter than I gave her credit for. Hopefully, she won’t get one up on me next time. I will take her down.
Blowing out a breath, I slowly started to play a melody. My fingers moving over the keys methodically, letting the tune of a sad song float through the house. I let my fingers move on their own accord, playing the beautiful sad song that I soon realized was one of my personal favorites to play, Cold by Jorge Mendez.
I couldn’t help but fall into the music and let it help work out my thought process. I have to find a way to get Tessa to realize that Alex will never be hers. Deep down, I know she will stop at nothing. Which scares me because if that is true, the only option is death, and I really don’t want her blood on my hands.
Playing the last cord, my hands slid onto my lap as I sat there in my own little world. Letting out a little gasp, I jumped out of the seat when an arm wrapped around my shoulder. Rolling my eyes in relieve, I sat back down next to uncle Raf, leaning into his warm embrace.
“How are you doing, kiddo? I haven’t checked in for a while, I know it’s been a bit crazy since you found your mate.” Rafael has a way of soothing me when I’m down or at a dead end. It’s definitely some sort of father radar because he somehow always knows when I need him. Even if it is just a shoulder to cry on, or a hand to hold.
Nodding my head against his shoulder I let out a slightly defeated sigh. “Honestly, I’m not great. I have a feeling that she’s not going to stop...” I lowered my voice, not in fear of being heard, but because my emotions were trying to take over as I whispered. “I don’t want to kill her... But I fear it’s the only way to get her to stop.”
Rafael can understand. Watching his brother go through something similar, he was bound to be able to shine some light on another possible way to end this, at least I was hoping. Raf let my words sink in before he squeezed me closer. “You know, I always had a feeling you would be in a situation like this. I prayed it wasn’t true, but I knew by some twisted game of faith, we’d end up in this predicament. Watching everything happen with your father, I realized that sometimes with the toughest decisions, the answer is right in front of you. Think of the similarities between what happened with your father, and what you are going through. I know when the time comes, you will know what to do, Eve.”
Giving my shoulder one last squeeze, he kisses the top of my head, standing up and leaving me sitting there, contemplating his words. If my dad’s situation is super similar to mine, what would I have done differently than he did? Was there anything he could have done to get a different outcome? I mean besides leaving the pack, what is there?
Biting my lip, an idea popped into my head. Leaving the piano behind, I went in search for Alex. When I finally found him outside talking to Julian and Parker, I pulled him to the side. “We need to question Tessa’s friends.” He furrowed his eyebrows are me, curious as to what I was thinking.
“Why? Did you find something, Eve?” I paused. He has only ever said my name a few times, and mostly only when we are in a heat of passion. However, I don’t remember him ever calling me by my nickname. I must have been giving him a weird look because he raised his eyebrows before questioning more. “What? Why are you looking at me like that?”
I crossed my arms, before pouting at him. I don’t think I like him not calling me a cute pet name. My favorite is when he calls me baby girl and his eyes always darkens when he says it. It’s so sexy. However, now is not the time to think about that. Focus, Evelyn. Shaking my head to clear it, I remembered why I came in search for him in the first place.
“No reason, but I think I figured out how she managed to get out and those girls will help confirm what I think is right.” He nods in agreement, motioning for me to follow while telling Parker and Julian to come along as well.
It’s time for me to see if my assumption is right, and if so, I might know exactly how I can get Tessa to back down and leave here for good. It’s time to see if Tessa has already met her mate, and if so, who is it?
