Pre-Chapter

This is Midnight Academy. It’s a large school, with not as many students as you’d expect. It’s located on the outskirts of Kuriyama, Japan. Wait you’re probably wondering where that it huh? It’s located in the Yubari District but you’ve probably never heard of it. It’s a small town with not many people. It had a lot of trees and train tracks.

Anyway as I was saying, the students are somewhat peculiar. You never see them leave the school. No one knows what the uniform looks like, what the students look like, what kind of teachers work there or what kind of school it really is.

Of course, you’re probably thinking, “then why hasn’t someone gone and looked?” well that’s the thing. The school is huge, but impossible to enter. Most are too scared, others simply give up. A large wall surrounds the academy. And no one knows how to get in. but they know there are people inside. Why? You can see the smoke of a fire. Smell the cooking of food. Hear the voices of students chattering all in English. You might find it odd that this school is in Japan and yet the only voices heard speak plain English. And yet that’s not the most peculiar thing about this school.

Once every month, always on a Tuesday night, the academy is silent. No voices, movement or smoke. An eerie silence that makes every person passing by want to whisper and be as quiet as the academy.

Many generations passed and the school never changed. No one ever saw the new students come or the old ones leave. Until one day, 5 children from Kuriyama disappeared. No one payed much attention. Because they were orphans. The only person who paid attention was the owner of the orphanage and no one believed her. So no one sent out search parties, or payed heed to the fact that all of their belongings had disappeared too. Only when the money their dead parents had left for them when they turned 17 disappeared from the bank, did people begin to care.

The police searched and searched. Until their search lead them to the outer walls of Midnight Academy. It was then that they knew, they would never see those children again.

How do I know all this you ask? Because I was the only other person who cared when those kids disappeared. One of them was my best friend. I never suspected that 5 years later, our paths would cross again.

I guess I should start at the beginning huh? My name is Misaki Akashi. And I’m the newest student at Midnight Academy.
