Chapter 10

“You do remember me, mate.” The male chuckled.

I spun towards the male and pulled my mate into my arms. She was still frozen. I could feel the sadness and fear radiating off of her.

“Who the fuck are you?” I growled at the mutt.

“Alpha Mason Harold of the Red Rose pack. You are?” Red Rose pack. How could someone so weak be the alpha of the largest pack?

‘Chris. Forest. Landry. Get here now. I know you three followed me here.’ I quickly mind-linked my betas. I could take him on on my own but if he had reinforcements...

I wasn’t risking my mate’s safety.

“Alpha Zander Ampherite of Blue Moon pack. Who are you calling my mate yours?” He looked angry and shocked.

“Your mate?” He laughed. “It’s mine," I growled at that.

“No. She’s mine. You rejected her and the blessed moon goddess gave her me. Someone who knows her true value.”

“Please. It’s mine. Mine to reject. Mine to break. Mine to bruise and scar. Mine to treat as I wish.” My anger was building and Zack was at the surface. He was ready to rip the face-off of the fucking bastard. He kept referring to her as ‘it’ which only fueled my anger more.

I sensed his companions a hair too late. They jumped at me and I nearly lost hold of my mate. My back and arms now had large claw marks on them. Luckily the wolves didn’t persist. She was still frozen in fear and something else... resignation.

Where were my betas?!

“Looks like I have the upper hand, Alpha.” He mocked me. “The pathetic, useless, omega you’re holding onto is my possession. And I want it back. It left too soon after I rejected the ugly thing. I heard it was making a name for itself just south of my pack lands. Pity I’ll have to kill all those precious rogues of it’s.”

In the last sentence, my mate unleashed a growl like none I’ve ever heard before. It was utterly terrifying if I were being honest. Had I not been an alpha, I surely would’ve submitted to that. Despite the pure anger racing through my veins, I felt pride for my mate.

“They aren’t rogues anymore. They have a home. AND I WON’T LET YOU DESTROY IT!” She yelled the last part. And the skies opened up with a clap of thunder loud enough to shake the earth.

A breath later, my betas had arrived. Immediately they attacked the four wolves who had surprised me earlier. My mate burst free of my arms and charged at the sorry excuse for a male who was the source of my anger.

She jumped and shifted at the same time. Had he not moved when he did, Mason would’ve been little more than a gruesome picture of bone, blood, and flesh. Somehow he had managed to dodge her attack.

Just as the skies lit up with another bolt of lightning, everything went black.

Amrey’s POV

“I’m going to tell you something that is going to make Amrey very angry at me. I really, really, really want to trust you. That’s mostly the mate bond though. I’m not stupid enough to trust an alpha I’ve only known for a little over a day. What you do with this information will literally determine your relationship with Amrey and me.” As Lea spoke, I thrashed to gain control again.

‘No. Lea! He’s going to reject us if he finds out! He already knows too much. Please don’t tell him. Please.’ I whimpered to her. he ignored me though.

“Tell me.” It came out as a growl.

“You know that she was kidnapped by the Blue Moon pack at a very young age. And that she was rejected by her first mate. She has alpha blood in her. She fought tooth and nail against everything. She thinks that she shoved everything down deep enough that I wouldn’t find out.”

‘Please. Stop.’ She kept ignoring me.

“Tell me.”

Suddenly, a chill went up my spine and a second later, I understood why.

“Hello, my darling mate.”

He had come for me. And he was going to get me. He always had gotten what he wanted. No matter what.

“Mason.” I froze. I’m sure fear was radiating off me in waves if the look in his eyes was any indication.

“You do remember me, mate.” He laughed at me.

It was the day after he’d rejected me. He was with another female. An alpha’s daughter from a southern pack.

All he did was look at me and laugh.

But that was all it took to send me to tears. I walked back to my room. A broom closet with a thin blanket and a few clothes folded neatly on the floor. The closet was used to store the mops, rags, cleaning chemicals, and other cleaning supplies.

Apparently that’s what I was.

Vaguely, I felt a pair of arms wrap around me. It must be Zander. He’s certainly going to reject me after this.

“Who the fuck are you?” I barely heard the growl that rumbled from deep inside Zander.

“Alpha Mason of the Red Rose pack. You are?”

Red Rose pack. How had he managed that? Wait. Why hadn’t I heard that he was the alpha of the Red Rose pack?

“Alpha Zander Ampherite of Blue Moon pack. Who are you calling my mate yours?”

“Your mate?” He laughed. “It’s mine."

It. I wasn’t even she. Just it.

“No. She’s mine. You rejected her and the blessed moon goddess gave her me. Someone who knows her true value.”

“Please. It’s mine. Mine to reject. Mine to break. Mine to bruise and scar. Mine to treat as I wish.”

He had done all those things and more. Even long before finding out we were mates, he had partaken in the abuse. And surely he’d be more vicious than he was before.

I resigned to the fact that I was going to die. Either today, hopefully quickly and painless, or someday in the future from the abuse Mason was sure to give me.

“ -heard it was making a name for itself just south of my pack lands. Pity I’ll have to kill all those precious rogues of it’s.”

I barely heard what was going on around me. But when I heard Mason say that, I unleashed a growl of pure rage and power.

I might submit to him. But I'll be damned if anyone hurts my pack. I let out another growl.

“They aren’t rogues anymore. They have a home. AND I WON’T LET YOU DESTROY IT!” I yelled the last part.

Those wolves were my family now. I won't let anyone near them.

Three wolves jumped four who were surrounding us. When had those four wolves gotten here?

Paying them no heed, I jumped and shifted at the same time. I aimed for his throat, ready to rip it out. He moved just in time to avoid my teeth. But not quick enough to avoid my claws. I managed to give him nasty cuts on his arms.

The sky lit up with lightning and rain poured down in torrents.

"This means war, you puny Bitch!"

He ran, actually ran. Mason. One of my tormentors ran from me. I howled, hopefully, someone would hear what I was saying.

'Don't let him get away.'

At the whines of wolves behind me, I turned.

Zander was laying on the ground, blood pouring out of him. Four wolves lay dead around him.

"Zander!"
