I knew I wasn’t normal. I saw things others couldn’t. Out of the corner of my eye colors took different shapes. Some looked like people, some looked like animals. I always felt as if I knew what they were or could be. But I can never remember after turning away. I would say it was a dream but I don’t dream. I almost never do. I have a story that goes on forever and ever that just keeps on adding. and I feel as if I know these characters and their places personally.

“Come downstairs now, or you’ll miss me giving you a ride to school.” My older brother shouts from downstairs.

“Yeah, I’m coming right now,” I said jogging down our stairs, no time to eat, grabbing my cereal, and walking out.

“Look, the witch awoke from her slumber,” Sam quips, flicking my nose as I ran past.

“Hahaha very funny. I have to go. Stop trying to delay me.”

As I walk into the kitchen finishing my food, a photo catches my eye. It was one of me, Sam, mom, and dad. We were at the beach and I was holding a surfboard and Sam was holding his fishing pole. “Sam, do you remember when this picture was taken?” I ask, holding the frame up to his face.

“Is your memory going? We took that last week. Do you not remember that? We all went to the beach and you caught some sick waves. I caught some fish that we ate. Do you really not remember? I don’t think you hit your head that hard. I’m joking,” he said, “You didn’t hit your head at all.”

No, I don’t remember it, knitting my eyebrows and scowling at the photo. Why couldn’t I remember…

There he is again. the shadow boy. I never get a full glimpse of him but I can see him if that makes sense. It does to me. Looking at him, he looks real. But when I close my eyes and count to ten, he is gone.

“Come on! You don’t want to be late, do you? If not, hurry up,” nodding my head I passed him at the door, forgetting I’m wearing my PJ’s. Today’s going to be a great day.

“Ugh, No I didn’t realize what I was wearing misses. I also don’t have a change of clothes so I don’t need to ask that question. Another day I’m being sent home yay.”

Walking down the hallway to get to my car, I see him again. The same Shadow boy, but this time I get a better look at him. Staring straight at him I can see that he has black hair and olive skin. It kind of feels like a Western standoff with me standing here and him over there. Neither of us are doing anything but staring.

“Who are you?” I asked. I was scared because he started walking towards me, and when you’re the only one who can see something and it just starts walking towards you, terrified is an appropriate reaction.

“Don’t come any closer,” I say as I scramble backward. And you know me being me, let’s add some more fun along with everything else, so I fall flat on my butt because why not.

Incredibly I didn’t fall. Because this mysterious man caught me. “I’m so sorry for this, but I have my orders,” he says. Could the day get any worse? I just wanted to go to sleep in my comfy bed, and he wasn’t even that cute anyway. I tried to scream. Before I knew it, chloroform filled my lungs and I was out like a light. It was the best sleep I’ve had in a long time.

I woke up completely disoriented. This isn’t my room or my bed. “How are you feeling?” an unfamiliar voice says. I look up and remember what happened, whenever it happened because time is kind of weird in my head right now. The room is very disorganized. I just want to go back to sleep, honestly.
