Illian- Meet Fahdon

I knew something was wrong when she turned white as a sheet at the mere mention of the name I had just given her. I let her process the information for a brief moment. It must be hard to think that your future queen was destined to go on a life or death journey and that she might not come back. I wondered how I could make this easier on the poor woman who just saved my life.

Unfortunately I had to keep my distance with everyone, due to the fact I would fall in love with the one that saves the world.

“Are you OK? You look a little white. I know it is hard to believe that I have come for her and I must convince her to help me. I promise you I will do my best to protect her. Even if that means I must die. I must get to her, and convince her to help. I need to restore the world and maintain the balance between dark and light.” I said with all my honor and heart. I looked down trying to keep myself together. I felt out of control around her and it was so hard to keep myself in check.

“No I am not OK, I know who you are talking about and there is nothing special about her she is just like us. Sure, she is more kind than my people are meant to be, but that just makes us love her more.” She had tears in her eyes. I could see there was a war waging inside of her. I was not sure why. I did not know what to do, or say to convince her. I stayed silent while she fought it.

Ten minutes must have gone by before saying anything else. Noticing she had finally finished with her internal battle, I began again.

“May I have the name of the one that worked so hard to keep me alive at the risk of her own life?” I asked carefully as to not throw her back into the internal battle she had just recently resolved.

“You are not going to like the answer to that question.” She said with unshed tears still glistening in her eyes. I believed her. I could guess what she was about to say. “I’m Ajiana. I am the one you have been looking for. However; I am the wrong person to restore the light.”

For once in my life I was speechless, I looked closely at this woman for the first time since she saved me. She had long raven black hair that went down past her waist. Her hair appeared to wave as though there was a constant breeze around her. She was about six foot, her eyes were dark chocolate brown with streaks of lush rainforest green. Her lips were as red as rubies. They were accentuated by her face which was flushed with anxiety. Her body was as fluid as water as she paced the floor. I don’t know why I didn’t see it as clearly as I did now. Now it was so obvious to me.

Ajina was so scared that I thought she would flee as soon as she had a chance. I had to get her to calm down. As I began to gather my thoughts, she bolted for the door and I knew it was not dark yet.

“Where are you going? It is still daylight outside; you will die if you walk out there!” I yelled at her from across the room. She was already opening the door. I failed my mother, my world, and myself. I ran to her in an attempt to keep her from going outside. I knew my attempt would be in vain as it would be too late. She did not even hesitate as I screamed for her to stop. Nothing could have prepared me for what happened next.

“I am different than your mother predicted in her vision. I can stand in direct sunlight without burning, I also do not burn when holy water touches my skin. I FEEL when my people should not.” She said as tears flowed down her face now standing in direct sunlight. She turned her face to the sun and absorbed it to her skin. She looked at me with eyes that blazed with the sun’s fire. She was truly what I had been looking for. She was wild as the forest was before the fall of civilization, as calm as the water can be, she can burn with the passion of a thousand suns, she was as cooling as the summer breeze on a hot day. She made my spirit lift with just a look. She was the embodiment of hope!

“I think there is something my mother kept from me and when I get home we are going to have a very long talk!” I said in a huff of steam, I walked back into the house to sit down as my wounds started to throb. When I turned around to sit I saw her staring at me with amazed astonishment. “What the hell are you looking at?”

“What the hell do you think I am looking at? STEAM just came out of your damn NOSE!” She yelled at me with anger flashing through her eyes that could have almost rivaled my own. “What the hell are you?”

There was a knock at the door interrupting our discussion, I guess it was more of a scratch then a knock. It was him. I thought he would have been by my side the entire time. At least following close by before I was taken. Ajiana looked at the door with a confused look on her face but made no move to open the door. I sighed and got up to get the door. I wasn’t sure what she would say or what I was going to tell her but she was going to have to meet him sometime.

“Where have you been, Fahdon? I thought I picked you up before I got attacked, what happened?” I said as I opened the door. What stood at the door would have been cute to other people. I could see what they meant if I was being objective. He stood at about a foot tall. He was every color of blue, at his head he started off midnight blue and began to lighten as it moved down his neck to his tail. Under his wings and belly he had red that lightened like a sunset. The best part though was that his scales shimmered making him look as if he was phasing in and out of reality. To me though he was mostly annoying and stupid, what could you do about it when someone like that was your only friend? All you could do was love them.

“You know you suck Illian! I have walked over six miles to get back to you, even though it would have been a mile to you. Quit being a jackass, oh wait you can’t…. Hey do you remember that one time you actually tried and your head almost exploded? That was freaking hilarious! Wait who is this… hey why is your shirt off you know you’re not supposed to show your tattoos. What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Fahdon said streaming everything together. As he started getting pissed smoke came out of his nose.

“Come on Fahdon you know I obviously didn’t do it on purpose. I didn’t know she was going to bring me here, I wasn’t even aware when she took off my shirt... I was out cold. Now shut up before you scare her into running out the door because you let something run out your mouth that she really doesn’t need to know right now anyway.” More steam came out my nose and ran my hand down my face trying not to get too angry at him. Sometimes, for fun he likes to test my patience with him, for some reason he thinks it is the funniest thing in the world. I honestly didn’t understand the appeal, but it was a Fahdon thing. He looked at me really hard thinking I was lying, which he knew that I never did.

“No Fahdon she is actually the one we have been looking for.” I said with a sneer, I shut the door and went back to sit in the chair.

“Wow, Illian you do fast work. I didn’t think it would be this easy to find her. Look what you can do when you put a little effort into it.” He laughed as he jumped into my lap and sat down. We looked at Ajiana and she was smiling which made the corner of my mouth twitch, she just kept taking everything in strides.
