Not What I Expected

Chapter 24: Not What I Expected

✦Sean✦

It’s August, so what…it’s been nine months since Sasuke randomly disappeared. So I passed all my finals and I’m going into my senior year, I still swim at least three times a week, running is pretty much an everyday thing, I got a job for the summer at the sports store so I can start saving up money to get an apartment once I graduate, oh and I started taking karate. I think that pretty much sums up my summer so far. As of right now, I just took a shower and now I’m sitting on the couch with Mr. Carlson in my shorts we’re watching through the Rush Hour movies because Lily and Mrs. Carlson are sleeping over at her sisters’ house so we have the house to ourselves.

“How was Karate?” Mr. Carlson asked, “You had a belt test today didn’t you?”

I nodded, “I did. I passed and got my orange belt today.” Mr. Carlson was out grocery shopping when I got home, so I pretty much just took a shower and flopped on the couch waiting for him to get home so I could help put the groceries away.

I started taking karate just before finals week. Roughly about two days after we got back from states for swimming is when I saw the flyer about karate classes. Thankfully I’m learning when it comes to physical stuff and not just swimming I can learn the stuff pretty quick and it really peaks my interest. Mr. and Mrs. Carlson were on my ass about making sure that I passed all my finals though. So during that week I could exactly be out in the back yard and practice.

For states I made it there for the 200 freestyle and placed 3rd in that and for the melody relay we placed 2nd. For once I was actually glad that the three stooges asked me to join them for the melody and coach telling us that we were the top team for the melody. I still don’t like them, but I do at least respect them a little for not starting anything and focusing on swimming.

“That’s great, congrats, “Mr. Carlson smiled at me and I laughed sheepishly and rubbed the back of my neck. I had just recently gotten my cut. When I say recently I mean just earlier today after my karate class. It’s back into the same style that I had at the start of the school year last year. Where my bangs sweep over my left eye there’s just a little bit of layer to my hair to make it appear a bit messy, but not like I don’t brush it. It’s mostly flat though considering that my hair is naturally flat.

“I’m glad that you got your hair cut. It was getting pretty long there.” I chuckled a little at Mr. Carlson as I brought my left hand up to my ear and twisted my stud that was in my ear. I’ve had my ears pierced since I was 15, so they’re permanently pierced, I just need to break them in again and I saved up enough money to get a new pair of studs. I lost my last ones before I came here to live with the Carlson’s.

I’m not some person that has they’re ears over loaded with piercings and I’m never going to wear gages. I just simple have my lobes pierced and that’s all. I only wear studs, and my hair hides the fact that I have my ears pierced.

“Why not take them out if they’re bothering you.” Mr. Carlson said and I looked over at him.

“Oh no, they’re not bothering me, I just don’t want them to stick. Just breaking my holes back in. Considering that it’s been almost a year since I last wore studs.” I mentioned as I let my hand drop back down to my lap.

“Weren’t you invited to a party that’s going on tonight?” He questioned as I just focused on the tv.

“Yep.” I answered simply slouching a bit on the couch.

“Why aren’t you going to go to it?”

“Because.”

“That’s not an answer Sean.”

“I don’t really have any friends and I know for a fact that Andy’s parents are out of town so there will more than likely be underage drinking there and I really don’t want to get in trouble.” I responded with a sigh.

“Fair enough, I was just curious as to why you would rather stay in with an old guy like me instead of going and hanging out with kids your age.” Mr. Carlson chuckled and I rose an eye brow as I looked at him.

“First of all, you’re not old. And second of all the only real friends I felt like I had moved away so I just don’t want to hang out with the other kids in my class.” I answered going back to watching the movie.

My phone started to buzz on the coffee table. I was happy that Mr. and Mrs. Carlson for getting me a phone. Even with it being a track phone it was more than enough. I picked it up to see who was calling me. “Why is Liz calling me?” I muttered and unlocked my phone to answer the call. “Hello?”

“Heeeeeeyyyyy Sean.” She giggled, I just have a feeling this isn’t good.

“What’s up Liz?” I asked pushing myself up off the couch and walking out into the kitchen.

“Nooothin’. What are ya up to?” She popped her lips and I pulled the phone away from my ear a bit. Her words are a bit slurred…

“You went to Andrew’s party didn’t you?” I bluntly questioned wanting to get right to the point.

“Yeeeaaaahhh.” She answered.

“Do you want me to come get you?”

“I would like that.”

“Did you walk or drive?” That’s an important question to know if I should walk to Andrew’s or if I can ask to use the car.

“I walked.” At least she wasn’t so drunk that she couldn’t tell me if she walked or not.

“Okay, I’ll be over with the car. Don’t go anywhere.” I answered.

“But I have to pee.” She said.

I sighed and lightly hit my fist against my forehead. “Go to the bathroom. I meant don’t leave the house. I’ll be there soon.”

“Okay~” She hummed and then hung up the phone.

Sighing heavily, I walked into the living room once more, “Can I borrow the car? Liz went to Andrew’s party and apparently I was right with the underage drinking and she’s drunk.”

“Of course. Just make sure that she gets home safely. Do her parents know that she went to that party?” Mr. Carlson questioned. He’s met Liz before; we’ve had to work on some projects together for our English class.

“I don’t know. I’m assuming no. Her parents are people who would allow underage drinking.” I responded and walked to my bedroom, but made sure that I was loud enough for Mr. Carlson so he could hear me.

“I can’t say much; I did some underage drinking when I was younger. Just thought it would make me cool. But that was far from the truth.” He said and I was a bit surprised as I threw on some socks.

“I didn’t take you as someone who would do that.” I mentioned leaving my room and throwing on my shoes.

“When I met Julie in college she straightened me out that’s for damn sure.” Mr. Carlson chuckled and I grabbed the keys.

“I’ll be back soon.” I called out closing the door behind me. I got into the car and headed out. Andy’s house was able a ten minuet drive away from the Carlson’s house.

I got out of the car and walked up to the house. Sighed heavily, honestly I really don’t want to be here. I was hoping that I’d never have to be here again, but here I am fucking standing in front of this damn door once more. Taking a breath, I ring the stupid door bell. Liz is lucky that I’m nice enough to come and get her. I was having a good time just binge watching movies with Mr. Carlson all night…or I could read…that would work too. But nope, I’m here…

The door knob turned and thankfully Liz was the one that opened the door. Damn she looked smashed. She’s wearing a tube top that is showing off his mid drift and short shorts. I’ve never seen her wear something like this before.

“Hey…” I was stopped by her putting her fingers to my lips. I was a bit shocked by this actually.

“When did you get here Sasuke?” She giggled and I blinked.

“Liz, I’m not…” I couldn’t completely my sentence before she grabbed the collar of my tank top and planted her lips against mine. I’m sure it would have been a lot better if she didn’t taste like alcohol. She does have soft lips though. I can’t do this. I just can’t… I pulled away from her and pulled her hands off my collar and held them in my hands. He hands were soft and felt so small in my own hands. “Liz, it’s Sean, Sasuke isn’t here. You’re drunk, you called me to take you home, so that’s what I’m doing.”

Liz giggled and pulled her hands out form mine and then wrapped her arms around my left arm and pressed her body against it, “I’m ready to go~” She said and I rolled my eyes a bit.

“Do your parents know that you came to this party?” I asked her as I carefully walked her back to the car.

“Mhm~ but someone spiked the punch. It went down really smooth too.” She wouldn’t stop giggling.

“Are your parent’s home?” Was my next question.

“I think so. I can’t remember if they said they were going to go to see a movie or not.” The smell of alcohol that was coming off her was starting to give me a headache. But I got her into the car.

Taking a few breaths before as I walked to the driver’s side of the car I got in and started the car up once more, “You at least remembered your keys didn’t you?”

“Yes sir.” Nodding happily, she at least buckled up before I could tell her to buckle up.

They had a horseshoe driveway, so it made it easy to get out of there at least. Hopefully Andrew was smart enough to take the keys of the kids who drove to this party. And my mouth taste nasty now. I don’t like the taste of alcohol and this is the first time I’ve ever tasted it. I don’t think that I want to try it on my own. It just makes people make pour decisions.

I jumped a little when I felt Liz’s hand slap against my right leg and she gave my thigh a squeeze, “Your lips are really soft, can I have another kiss?”

“Liz, I’m driving.” I sighed not looking at her and just keeping my eyes on the road.

“So is that a no?” She pouted.

“Liz, you’re drunk, do you really want to keep making decisions that you’ll regret in the morning?” I glanced over at her and she was still pouting at me and started rubbing my thigh.

“I don’ know.” Thankfully it didn’t take too long to her to her house. I was pulling in the driveway when she answered my question.

It doesn’t look like her parents are home. Well, it is only ten at night, maybe they went to see a late night movie, or dinner and a movie. That’s also a possibility. With how small of a town this is I’m assuming that Liz didn’t lock the door when she left, “Come on I’ll walk you to the door at least.” I unbuckled and got out of the car.

I walked around the car and opened to door for Liz as she was having troubles with her buckle, “Do you need help?” I offered as I leaned on the open door looking down at her.

“Nooooo, I’ve gots this.” She answered her words slurred, but she actually did get herself unbuckled.

She stumbled out of the car and into me. Thankfully I was able to plant my left back on the ground fast enough to support her, without her taking us both out, “You okay?” I asked looking down at her. She giggled and nodded, her cheeks were rose red and her eyes looked glazed over. I helped her stand back up, “Come on.” I said and helped her to the door.

“Thank you Sean. I really appreciate it…” Liz said and pulled me down by my collar again, but this time I moved my face enough for her to just kiss my cheek instead of kissing me again. She let go of my shirt and let me standup straight again after she pulled her lips away from my cheek, “Nighty night Sean.” She waved opening her door and then stumbling inside.

“Night Liz.” I waved and waited there till she shut the door. Then I wandered back to the car and finally went home. “I’m back.” I called out considering the light was still on when I pulled into the drive way.

“You got her back home alright?” Mr. Carlson asked from the living room as I slipped out of my shoes and placed the keys back into the bowl.

“I did.” Going into the bathroom to see if she got any of her lipstick on me. She did, but it wasn’t too bad, I was able to find Mrs. Carlson’s wipes for taking off make up so it came off pretty quick.

“So the girl kissed you?” Mr. Carlson said making me jump as I was scrubbing my cheek.

I looked away from him and back to myself in the mirror, “Yeah, but I think she was thinking I was someone else. I know she doesn’t like me like that. I wasn’t exactly the nicest person when we first met.” Which was actually this year. According to what Sasuke told me after I moved away Liz moved in next door to him.

“Feelings can change. You’ve done a lot for that girl.” Glancing over at him I rolled my eyes as I finished getting the lipstick off and then just went to my tooth brush.

“I highly doubt it. She mistook me for our friend when she opened the door. That’s why she kissed me.” I wet down my brush before placing the toothpaste on it and then put it in my mouth.

“Who’s the friend?” He questioned.

“He doesn’t live here anymore. He moved away nine months ago. I haven’t seen or heard from him since.” I wonder if this is how Sasuke felt when I left. I didn’t have the courage to say good bye to him back then. But I figured that Sasuke would have at least told me he was leaving. Sasuke’s a lot stronger then I am. He’s able to do so much more and stand up to others a lot easier then I’m able to.

“Why didn’t you tell us Sean? You know you can come to us about anything. We’re here for you.” To be honest I wanted to tell them the day I found out he left but, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. It was something that I felt at the time I could handle keeping to myself.

I looked over at him before bending down to spit out the suds and rinse my mouth, “I don’t like opening up. That’s always been my problem. I was never taught to open up to others.”

“Well you can always teach an old dog new tricks.” I looked over at Mr. Carlson with a bored expression as I swished mouth wash around in my mouth. “I know, I know, you’re only 18. I’m just letting you know that you don’t have to keep everything to yourself. It’s not good to do that. Both to your health and the people who care about you.”

I spit out the mouth wash and leaned against the sink, “I know.” I said quietly and Mr. Carlson patted me on the back.

“You’re a lot stronger than anyone else that I know. Don’t let anyone tell you different.” I looked over at Mr. Carlson confused by his words. What does he mean by that? “I’m going to head to bed, have a good night Sean.”

“Night.” I said and then looked back at my reflection in the mirror. My cheek was a little red form where I was scrubbing the lipstick off. I feel like the hardest part about it is that I just feel a sharp pain in my chest. Like I’m being stabbed. I know those kisses weren’t meant for me. She’s in love with Sasuke…even with him being gone. How that idiot never noticed is beyond me to be honest. “I don’t have a crush on her…I guess it just hurts knowing that I look close enough to Sasuke that she mistakes me for him…” I confessed to my reflection.

Giving up on coming up with an answer for myself and why I don’t feel great about all of this, I go to my room after shutting off all the lights in the house and locking the door. Sitting down on my bed I run my fingers through my hair. “I don’t fucking look like him damn it…I know I don’t…so we have the same hair color, our eyes are completely different…he has so much courage and compassion in his eyes, where mine every time I look at myself I look broken and like I’m on the verge of giving up…” Sighing I fall back on my bed and look up at the dark ceiling. My eyes are slowly adjusting to the darkness so I can start to make things out in my room without having to turn on the light.

Pulling my legs up onto my bed I turn over onto my side and rest my head on my arm. Today went from being half way decent to shit. No I get to go to bed in a shitty mood…I’m not going to get too much sleep tonight. Scanning from what I can see of my room I traced the book that’s been sitting on my night stand since my birthday. It’s the book that I found in Mr. Kaisai’s office when I went in there. I haven’t really touched it sense. Hell I don’t even know the title of the book.

“Maybe I’ll read that tomorrow.” I told myself staring at it. I don’t even know the title of it. It’s face down and the binding is against the wall. There’s nothing on the back of the hard cover book. Maybe if I read it…maybe it’ll give me a clue to where Sasuke went. I mean it’s a long shot to say the least, but it’s a start none the less.

It wasn’t too long after readjusting myself on the bed and getting under the sheets for me to fall asleep. I don’t remember any of my dreams that I had, but I know that I had at least two. But I woke up first around two in the morning and then around four. Giving up with sleeping at 6:30 in the morning I laid there in bed staring at the wall and from time to time I rolled onto my back and focused on the ceiling.

I’m still like half asleep though, but my phone started buzzing away in my pocket, I completely forgot to take it out before crawling into bed last night. I was getting a call, this early in the morning. I didn’t bother to see who it was I just answered and stuck the phone up to my ear.

“Hello?” I asked my voice sounding kinda raspy.

“Sean, I’m so so so sorry about last night. I’m so stupid, I shouldn’t have gone to that party.” It was Liz.

“Liz, it’s fine, just chill, I got you home safe and I’m glad that you were willing to call me to give you a ride home.” I said trying to calm her down.

“My head is killing me. That was so stupid, I should have let Carly convince me to go. I just knew there was going to be some form of drinking and I just went along with it.” She groaned into the phone and I sighed a little.

“Like I said, it’s fine.”

“No it’s not Sean, I fricking kissed you, twice.” That stung a bit, “And I called you Sasuke.”

“I figured you had a crush on him to begin with so I’m not really surprised.” I chuckled a little, “But really, It’s not a big deal and I promise I won’t tell anyone. I’m sure that everyone else was too fucking drunk to even notice anything anyways. I’m surprised that you even remember anything from last night to be honest.”

“I wasn’t that drunk that I can’t remember what I did.” In my head I could see her puffing out her cheeks.

“Why are you up this early anyways?” I questioned sitting up and running my free hand through my hair.

“I had to use the restroom.” She answered quickly, “Why are you up so early?”

“I always get up this early. I would normally be out on my run right now.” I lied, I normally run around 7:30-8 in the morning. Well it’s quarter too so I could technically get changed and go for my run…but I do have work later today…

“I’m sorry, I’m keeping you from your run. I’ll let you go.” Liz panicked.

“Liz, it’s okay, you don’t have to be all panicky. It’s fine, I haven’t even gotten out of bed yet.” I mentioned.

“You jerk, I thought you were already out for your run.” She hissed and it made me chuckle.

“You’ll get over it. But I am going to go so I can get dressed and go for my run.” I told her. I didn’t really want to talk in the first place, but I was trying to be nice.

“Alright, thank you again for picking me up last night and I’m really sorry for what I did.” Liz sounded genuinely upset about what she did.

“Don’t worry about it. It’s not a big deal, we’ll just act like it never happened.” I said getting out of bed.

“But Sean…” I cut her off.

“No buts, I said it’s fine so don’t worry yourself over it.” I said.

“Alright, I’ll talk to you later then.” She said quietly.

“Later.” I said and pulled the phone away from my ear and hung up.

Sighing heavily, I tossed my phone back onto my bed and went over to my dresser and pulled out some under armor shorts, then I put my shorts that I slept in, grabbed my socks from last night, then wandered out to put my socks on and slip on my shoes. Mr. Carlson was still sleeping so I quietly shut to door behind me. It wasn’t that hot out yet, so that’s a plus. The concrete looks damp so it must have rained last night. I don’t remember hearing anything though. Eh, whatever. It makes it easier to run.

The run wasn’t too exciting. I’m tired, but I ran the full length that I normally do. Though by the time I made it back to the house, it’s gotten really humid. I’m sweating really bad and I want a shower. When I entered the house Mr. Carlson was in the kitchen and I looked over at him, “Morning.” I said closing the door.

“Morning. I see you went for a run. You had your door closed so I thought you were still sleeping.” He said, “I’m going to make waffles, did you want some?”

“Sure. Do I have time to take a quick shower?” I asked taking off my shoes before wandering into the kitchen myself to get a glass down for some water.

“Yeah, I’m going to start the bacon first.” He said.

“Bacon and waffles?!” I said happily leaning on the counter and taking a drink of my water.

“Damn straight we’re eating bacon and waffles.” We both laughed and I finished off my glass of water and set it on the counter.

“Do you need to use the bathroom?” I’ve gotten into the habit of asking before I go in, I don’t need someone walking in while I try to take a shower. Lily already thinks it’s fun to open the door when I’m in there. She did just turn two. Thankfully she’s potty trained now too. Everyone once in a while she has an accident, but she’s still really good with letting you know that she needs to go.

“I’m good and you don’t have to worry about Lily barging in on you today.” Mr. Carlson chuckled as I went into my room and got my work clothes. It was just a simple polo shirt and jeans.

“I’ll be out in a bit then.” I said and went right into the bathroom.

I didn’t take as long as I usually do in the shower. I just wanted to get in and out.I looked at the book when I was leaving my room and I remembered that I actually wanted to start reading that today. I wonder if it’s any good. I mean Mr. Kaisai was really cool and all, but I don’t know if he would have any interesting books. Well there’s only one way to find out and that’s to actually open the book and read it.

When I got back to the room and tossed my clothes on the edge of my hamper then hung my towel on the bedpost of my bed I wandered over to my night stand and picked up the book. It looks simple though with its solid green, hard cover book and had deep gold lettering on the spine and front. Running my fingers over the lettering they were indented into the cover.

“Spirit Weapons and the Spirit Realm.” I muttered to myself looking at the lettering. It was almost like calligraphy. “By Lucian Ney…I’ve never heard of this person before.” Sitting down on my bed with the smell of bacon taking over me room I flipped open the book. It had a small bit of that old book smell, but the thing is, the pages aren’t tinted yellow in any way. They also feel thicker than a standard book page. “I wonder how old this book is…there’s no publish date on it…I wonder why.

Welcome to the third book in my series. This book is just as the cover says. I will be taking you through the process of spirit weapons and what I know about the spirit realm. I myself have not obtained a spirit weapon, but I was lucky enough to have witnessed the process of someone else obtaining a spirit weapon. So I hope that you enjoy this novel and that you will not become too bored with this book. Trust me this is going to be much more enjoyable then The Basic of Elements. I implore you to take notes while you read. You may find things you may not expect hidden within these novels. Enjoy.

-Lucian Ney

I’ve never seen an author’s note like this before. It’s nothing like a professional writer, or something that you would find in a history book. It’s almost like an author note at the end of a light novel. I guess I was expecting that this was going to be more like a textbook based type book with the title. “Are there other books to this series?” I muttered and started flipping to the back to see if this author made a list of what’s in his series.

The Basics of Elements

Soul Weapons

Spirit Weapons and the Spirit Realm

That’s really the list? Or is this just an early edition and the author never put if he created other books in here. “But he did say there are things hidden…” Mumbling to myself as I flipped the page back and forth, but other than the titles I saw nothing else on the front or the back of this page.

“Sean, breakfast is done. Come and get it while it’s hot!” Mr. Carlson beckoned. I quickly closed the book and set it down on the pillow then wandered out of the room.

It smells amazing in the house. My stomach is grumbling and my mouth is starting to water, “Ugh you even put the bacon in the waffle, Damn Mr. Carlson you went all out.” I commented as I grabbed a plate. Mr. Carlson was already putting syrup on his waffles.

“Totally worth it. If you want ice cream, it’s in the freezer obviously.” He chuckled.

“I may have to take you up on that.” I answered and instantly went into the freezer and there was vanilla ice cream.

I got out the scooper and heated up some water from the faucet to make it easier to scoop the ice cream. As I waited for that I got the bacon and waffles on my plate along with some slices of bacon. Once I was able to get the water hot enough I put the scoop under the water and then quickly scooped out some ice cream, then rinsed off the scoop, shut off the water, grabbed my plate and fork, then joined Mr. Carlson out in the living room. But I quickly got back up, I course I forgot the syrup.

“Forget something?” He asked.

“Syrupy deliciousness.” I responded grabbing the bottle and drizzling it over everything. Then I went back into the living room. It was so good. Mr. Carlson was the best at making breakfast. I think his breakfast on par to Mr. and Mrs. Kaisai’s cooking if I’m remembering the taste right. “This is so good.” I said after swallowing my first bite.

Mr. Carlson chuckled, “You say that about breakfast I make. But thank you.” I stuffed my face with food happily, “Do you have work today?” I nodded considering that I had my mouth full. “Closing shift again?” Again, I nodded, “Did you want to take the car?”

I swallowed my bite so I could actually answer him with more than just a nod or a shake of my head, “Na it’s okay. I don’t think it’s supposed to rain tonight so I can just walk.”

“Well if you change your mind and would like a ride home, just give one of us a call.” Mr. Carlson said and I nodded once more.

“Can do.” I chuckled and finished off my breakfast. “Thanks for making breakfast, it was really good.”

“Your welcome.” He smiled back at me and then I took my plate out to the kitchen and rinsed it. I forgot to put the ice cream away. Quickly putting the cap back on it I put it back in the fridge like nothing happened and grabbed one more piece of bacon. “I’ll be in my room reading. Let me know when you’re all done and I’ll clean everything up.” I said from the kitchen before going back into my room and picking up the book again.

“I’ll just read it through the first time. When I reread it I’ll actually take notes.” I decided looking at the cover of the book before flipping it open to the first chapter. Well the prologue actually. Have to start from the beginning.

I will start off this book with a quick recap of what happened in the last book. In the last book we learned about soul weapons. As you know soul weapons are created from an elementals heart and soul. The only way that we know of at this time for how a soul weapon is created is when the elemental is able to conquer their strongest fear and find peace with that fear. Considering that I have a soul weapon myself does not mean that I am perfect. I am actually far from it. I am still young and have a lot of fears still within, but I have come to peace with my largest fear.

Conquering your fear alone is not the only thing that is needed to obtain your soul weapon. That is only the tip of the ice burg as Randy would always say, though he is one to play around and make puns with everything that needs to be done in order to get a laugh. I also do not enjoy his water over the door prank he pulls on me often. He has almost ruined my notes many a times…that is beside the point. My complaining is not a part of this book; therefore, I will not trouble you with it. I shall just gesture some payback to him later on.

As I was saying before, conquering your largest fear is just the beginning. From there you must train in both body and mind to make your soul weapon take shape in the physical world. One must have complete confidence in one’s self in order to successfully make the weapon full form. Once the elemental has done this your soul weapon is yours to bring forth at will.

Now that we have covered the second book we shall move on to what this book is actually about. I hope that this did no bore you and I implore you to continue reading. I wrote this book to share with you the wonders of the Spirit Realm that I know about and the theory on spirit weapons that I have discussed with others.

You have to conquer your biggest fear to get a soul weapon? What is a soul weapon? “I’m so confused…” Groaning to myself, my shoulders slump and I look up at the ceiling. It’s obviously important to read the book that comes before this one to get the full gist of what’s going to happen in this one it seems. But I can’t read the other two, those are with Mr. Kaisai and I have no idea where they are. Maybe after a couple times of reading this I’ll get it.

“Okay…onto the next one.” Mumbling to myself I turned the page to chapter one.

Realms

We are going to start this off in the opposite order than what the title of this book actually is. I feel that in order to understand the theory of a spirit weapon one must first know about the different realms. If you need to pick up paper and writing utensil to understand what I am going to tell you I would highly suggest you do that now before you read any further.

“Uuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm……” I looked around for a notebook and pencil. Setting the book down to search I jumped when I heard a car door shut. “Geeze…” That almost gave me a fucking heart attack.

“Sean could you come help, they apparently decided to go grocery shopping and neglected to tell either of us before coming home.” Mr. Carlson called for me.

“Coming,” I answered back giving up on my search and going to help with groceries. I noticed that everything from breakfast was already put away. Walking out to the car in my bare feet I gave my resting bitch face to Mr. Carlson, “Mr. Carlson, I told you to let me know when you were done and that I would put the stuff away.”

“Don’t talk to me in that tone of face, I’m allowed to put the food away if I want. Besides when I looked in your room, you seemed to be really concentrating on the book you were reading so I didn’t want to disturb you.” He smiled at me and pulled out two bags from the trunk as Mrs. Carlson got Lily out of the car seat.

“Baba.” Lily squealed and pointed at me. She instantly wanted down and she did her waddle run over to me.

“Hey there squirt.” I picked her up and sat her on my hip. Mrs. Carlson had a hard time teaching me to actually use my hip instead of holding her up with my arms all the time, “Were you good for mommy yesterday?” I asked her and booped her nose lightly.

She giggled and hugged me, “Miss baba.”

“I missed you too Lily.” I chuckled and hugged her back before bending down a bit and grabbing some bags with my free arm.

“I can take her back Sean, you don’t have to hold her.” Mrs. Carlson offered.

“It’s not a big deal. If she wants down, I’ll let her down.” I said with a slight shrug and then wandered into the house. Thankfully Mr. Carlson propped the door open so I didn’t have to attempt to open the door.

“Dada!” She said pointing at Mr. Carlson.

“Want to go to dada?” I asked her and Mr. Carlson held his arms out to her, but instead she just cuddled against me, “Ooooh, rejected by your own daughter.” I smirked and chuckled.

“Harsh Lily.” He pouted a bit and Lily started to giggle and then held her arms out to Mr. Carlson.

She actually let him take her from me. I put what bags I had down on the table and went back out. I grabbed about twelve bags so there were only two left.

“Sean you don’t have to take all of those, you’ll hurt yourself,” Mrs. Carlson stated.

“Less trips.” I responded taking longer strides to get into the house faster so I would drop anything.

Mrs. Carlson ended up grabbing the last two bags and shutting the trunk of the car.

Once I set down all the bags I had I started putting stuff away. Occasionally I would hand something that was light to Lily because she wanted to help. Between the four of us putting groceries away went by pretty quick. I can’t seem to get back to reading though, it’s a nice day outside and Lily wants to go play. So, we grab her bouncy ball and I take her outside to go enjoy the weather. I lost track of time and before I knew it Mr. Carlson had to give me a ride to work. Thankfully I was able to throw my book in my bag along with the notebook and pencil that I had found before Mrs. Carlson and Lily got home.

“You sure you don’t want me to come pick you up?” Mr. Carlson asked as I got out of the car.

“Na, it’s okay, I don’t mind walking. I’ll see ya later.” I said and shut the door.

Work was actually pretty busy when I walked in. I just tossed my bag on the hook that I normally put it on then had to quickly clock in so I could help out. It started to slow down around 5:30, which was nice and I was able to start reorganizing the shelves.

“Sean, you can take your break if you want.” Becky said walking past me with a box.

“Did you want help with the box first?” I offered.

“Na, it’s just gloves, I’m going to the baseball section. I’ll be just fine, you go.” She said with a smile.

“Alright, but don’t be afraid to come grab me if you need help with anything.” I sighed and finished what I was doing.

“Look what the cat dragged in.” Oh no…why…just fucking why… “I didn’t know ya worked here Sean.” I turned around and the three stooges came walking up to me.

“I just started working here this summer actually.” I said flatly and Andy put an arm over my shoulders.

“Ya can get us some sweet deals then.” He snickered and I rolled my eyes.

“Sorry, I’m not allowed to use my employee discount for anyone other than myself.” I answered quickly and got myself out of Andy’s grasp.

“Sean, why did you come to the party last night?” Sam questioned putting his hands in his pockets.

“I’m busy.” I said.

“No he’s not, he just started his break.” Becky you double crosser…

“Come on Sean you can’t just not give us an answer.” Nick commented

“I wanted to hang out with my foster parents. I’ve been really busy this summer and I haven’t had a chance to just chill with them.” I answered crossing my arms over my chest.

“But we’re a team, you totally should have come.” Sam pouted a bit.

“I’m not a drinker, and I know for a fact that someone spiked the drinks at your party last night.” I sighed and started walking towards the break room.

“Who told you that?” Andy questioned easily keeping up with me.

“Liz called and asked me to pick her up. She was drunk when I got there.” Nick caught up with me and nudged my arm.

“Did ya get some?” He questioned and I moved my arm away from him.

“Fuck off, and no I didn’t get some. I would never do that.” I scowled at him. Why the hell would he even ask me that in the first place?

“Chill dude, it was just a joke.” Nick scowled right back at me.

“Kay ya two, don’t claw at each other throats. Sean doesn’t need ta get in trouble at work.” For once Andrew was actually defending me. That’s a shocker, didn’t think that he had it in him to be honest.

I pulled out my phone and sighed, “I should get back to work anyways. My break is pretty much over.” So much for wanting to read more.

“We’ll let cha goin then.” Sam said, “Come on Nick, I wanna go look at the cleats for football before we head out.” Nick followed same.

“I’ll catch up with the two of ya in a minuet.” Andy said to them and Sam and nick waved in response.

“I’m assuming you want to ask me something so just say it.” I rolled my eyes. The only time that he wants to talk to me alone is when he can weasel himself out of hanging out with Sam and Nick.

“First, I want ya ta join the soccer team with me this year. Tryouts will be starting soon and I think ya should come.” He started.

“I didn’t sign up for it at the end of the school year and I didn’t go to the sports meeting last week, I don’t think I can join. Besides I’m a part of the swimming club in town and there’s a competition that’s coming up soon.” I responded putting my phone back in my pocket.

“It doesn’t mean ya can’t be a walk on. Coach is pretty laid back and I don’t think Mr. Minikind would care. He seems to like ya as an athlete and with it bein’ are senior year he would probably let it slide.” He pated my shoulder and I blinked slowly at him not amused in the slightest, “Just think about it will ya?”

“What’s the other question.” I groaned.

“Hear anything from the pipsqueak?” Why is he curious about Sasuke? And on top of it, why does he even remember him? I figured by now he would have forgotten about Sasuke.

Brushing his hand off my shoulder I turned away from him, “Look if your lookin’ to hurt him the next time you see him I won’t let you. That’s my job as his best friend.” I clenched my fists and looked down at my feet, “I made a promise that I would do punch him in the face if he just randomly left on me.” Looking back up and turning around I looked at Andy with a very serious expression, “Besides, even if I have heard anything from him why the hell would I tell you?”

“Then explain to me why he set a flame on your shirt the day the two of ya got in that fight.” I looked at him shocked and I felt my heart pound, “Also that snowflake mother fucker, there’s something weird about that kid too ya know,” Quickly, I looked away from him.

“I have to get back to work.” I said and walked away from him.

I heard his footsteps quickly come up behind me. Grabbing my shoulder and squeezing it he pulled my head towards his so he could whisper in my ear, “Ya know somethin’ Sean and I’m determined to get it out of ya.” After that he let go of my shoulder and slapped me on the back, “See ya later.” Then he headed towards the shoe section of the store.

Like fucking hell that I’m going to tell him anything. I promised that I would keep them being elementals a secret. I won’t let anyone know about that, that’s for damn sure.
