"I wonder how your mother looks like," Cheryl Bloom, my best friend, muttered under her breath while looking at a mother pushing a pram.
"I would like to know too," I murmured ,nodding thoughtfully.
"Why don't you ask your father?"
"I did but all he said was that she was dead and her name was Sandra. Sandra Rose. But there were no pictures. Nothing!" I groaned in frustration.
"Calm down. We're already at your house."
"Oh, I didn't notice. See you at school tomorrow, I guess."
"Yeah. Bye!" Cheryl waved cheerfully and walked off.
I unlocked the door and entered my house, locking the door behind me. I did what I do every day: bathe, eat lunch, do my homework, play computer games for a while, eat dinner, watch TV with Dad, pack my bag for tomorrow and go to bed. It is the same old, boring routine every single day.
-The next day-
I woke up, brushed my teeth, bathed, ate breakfast and went to school like every single morning.
As I was walking to school, someone bumped into me. I fell and landed with a thud, the books I were holding scattered on the ground. I flinched as I landed on my butt.
An unfamiliar voice rang in my ears. "I'm sorry! Are you ok?"
I looked up and saw a girl about the same age as me, offering her hand to help me up. I took her hand and she pulled me up to my feet. She helped me pick up my books and passed them to me.
"Thank you," I said gratefully.
"No problem. It's the least I can do," she replied with a small smile.
"I'm Clare Rose. You?"
"That's an interesting name. You were named after a bird?"
"Yeah. Luckily, my middle name is Elizabeth, not the name of another bird."
That was when I noticed that she was not wearing any school uniform. "You're not going to school?"
Raven grinned and her green eyes twinkled. "Nah. I can't stand sitting in a classroom for hours. I study at home." She glanced at her watch and continued, "I got to go. See you around." She raised her hand as farewell and dashed off.
I was about to resume walking to school when a shiny stone caught my eye. Bending down, I realised that it was a ring with an emerald. I picked it up and looked at closely and saw 3 letters engraved on it.
R.E.W. Raven Elizabeth Wingslayer.
It was the first thing that popped into my mind. I could ask her if it was her ring but I have no idea where she is and I was going to be late for school. I shoved the ring into my pocket and sprinted to school.
The bell rang the moment I sat down. Right on time. Thank god.
The lessons were boring. I could not wait to tell Cheryl what happened this morning and ask her what I should do. Time seemed to crawl by so slowly.
Finally! It was time for recess!
I grabbed Cheryl's hand and dragged her to a secluded corner.
"What's going on? Is someone stalking you?" Cheryl teased me.
"No! This is serious!" I hissed before explaining everything and showing her the ring.
Cheryl's eyes widened in surprise. "That must be expensive! We must return it!" She exclaimed.
"How? We have no idea where is she!"
"We go to the place where you bumped into her and search from there."
I opened my mouth to protest but quickly closed it. There was no point in arguing with Cheryl. The moment she sets her mind on something, nothing can stop her.
Let's just hope that we can find Raven or I am definitely not going to reach home on time.
