Chapter 2

“I could get on my knees too, if you’d like.” I teased and turned to face him, reminding myself not to swoon at the sight. It’s a little hard. Tall, dark and handsome. All a little more than I remember. Grey-blue storm cloud eyes. A mess of curls at the top of his head. A jaw that could I’d beg to cut me. “It’s a pleasure to see you again, Lucifer.”

He lifted an eyebrow, a perfectly arched eyebrow. “A pleasure?”

“You’re said to be the most handsome of all angels. I’ve only ever laid my eyes on humans. So, yes. A pleasure.”

His eyes flashed red for a second. “No one has been quite so bold with me in a long time.”

“Does it turn you on?” I asked, stepping closer.

“You’re amusing, human.” He murmured as he eyed me up and down lazily. “Maybe I’ll keep you around for a little before I let you burn.”

“You’re not going to let me burn.” Well, he still might. “One more year of life and the rest of eternity at your side. Are you going to be at my side as I burn?”

He chuckled, dark and low and his eyes glinted with something I couldn’t figure out. “That’s right, but how long do you think it’ll take for you to beg to burn.”

“Well, you’ll just have to wait and find out won’t you?”

He smirked. “It never takes too long.”

I felt myself being lifted, just a feet off the ground, and I fell into a rock hard chest. His chest. I could only reach his chest. I could feel the blood rushing to my face. “What are you doing?”

“I just want to look at you human.” His block orbs pierced into my orange ones. “You’re not as confident as you like to pretend to be. I can hear your heart beat.”

I couldn’t say anything. My mind was muddled. I could feel him in my mind, slithering around. Picking up it apart.

He brought up a hand and grazed my cheek with the tip of his fingers. I winced. It burned. A little more than fire. “You don’t need to leave my side to burn.”

I tried to ignore the pounding in my chest. “But will you kiss it better after?”

His lips curved up into an amused smirk. “You’re really are amusing, Human.”

“My name, Lucifer, is Erik.“ I looked back up at him. “Calling me human is not very attractive.”

I dropped back to the ground and before I could fall, he grabbed me by the waist and we stood chest to chest. “I watched you. I couldn’t figure you out.”

My heart stopped for a second. He watched me? I’ve done a lot of things with him in mind. “What do you mean you watched me.”

He leaned down and I felt his breath in the crook of my neck, his sharped edges teeth grazing my spot almost making me whimper. “I know a lot more about you than you think, Night.”

I stepped away and cleared my throat. “Right. I’m still alive? Aren’t you suppose to take me to hell?”

He had on a crooked, single-dimpled smile. “I don’t actually have to kill you to take you to hell. Well, at least for as long as you remain by my side.”

“But I only asked for one more year of life?”

“I gave you life. I can take it away as I wish.”

“What if I escape and come back to earth since I’d still be alive?”

“You wouldn’t. You have no reason to.”

I nodded. It was true. The Romano family adopted me and betrayed me. I began and ended with them. I really did have nothing to go back for. “Why are you keeping me alive?”

“What could I do with a corpse?”

“Wouldn’t I have died if I had to burn?”

“You soul,” he corrected, “would have had to burn in hellfire. Your body would have been discarded.”

“Aren’t you dead?”

“Aren’t you inquisitive?” He remarked. “You aren’t acting like someone that just killed four people.”

“Do you want me to cry?” I winced as I felt something slithering and prodding in my head.

“You’ve kept everything you feel locked up. It was the first thing I sensed.”

I took a deep breath to steady my heart. “Are you going to take me to hell or not?”

“We arrived a while ago.” He said as the Romano manor began breaking apart like a puzzle and I was faced with the scarlet eyes that made my blood run cold.

The intensity of her gaze forced me to step back into Lucifer’s chest again. He wrapped an arm around my waist. She was a red hair woman, clad in gold armour that almost stuck to her like skin. She was…gorgeous.

“So,” The woman said, her voice smoother than any silk, “this is your new toy?”

“Lillith.” Lucifer greeted.

“He’s handsome.” She commented, ignoring his greeting. “Mind sharing?”

He tightened his hold around my waist. “I’m sure you have many others to entertain you.” He said, his voice an octave lower. It was slightly frightening.

She laughed. “I do.”

She walked towards us, but I could feel her, like the slithering of snakes that coiled around my body, suffocating me.

“Don’t you have to meet the council, Lilith?” He asked, his voice slightly strained.

She ignored him again and looked at me only. I wanted to look away but I couldn’t. “You seem like you were worth the wait.”

She left and the slithering left to. I breathed again as soon as she did.
