Chapter 11

“Me? Cain, I wouldn’t do that!” Hannah stood before them with her hands on her hips, looking incredulous. A gasp sounded from the crowd. A murmur went around the people as Hannah strode forward.

“It’s Alpha to you, and I asked you a question. Don’t test me,” Cain warned in a threatening tone.

“What proof do you have that she’s the one after Amelia’s life?” his father asked in a loud voice.

Cain reached behind him and brought out the herbs Hannah had given her. She spelled incantations on the leaves, and they turned black and rotted instantly.

“Amelia comes from a long line of powerful witches.”

The crowd mumbled amongst them while Hannah grew pale. Her eyes widened, and her lips quivered. She took a step back and glared at Amelia.

“I had my suspicions.” Amelia stepped forward. Although Cain didn’t want her to, she was determined to speak her mind to protect her from this. But if she was going to be a successful Luna and wanted respect, she couldn’t hide behind him. “Only I wasn’t sure. Then, the herbs confirmed it.”

“That doesn’t prove anything! I am innocent! All I have done is try to help you!”

Amelia stared back at Hannah, and her jaw dropped. She felt the woman had a lot to confess—not just trying to kill her. She whispered some incantations that would compel Hannah into admitting her guilt and confessing. At first, Hannah fought it and started screaming, trying to resist her spell. The more she resisted, the more it hurt her. But eventually, the spell took over, and she fell on her knees.

“Yes. I confess! did it!” she yelled in a tormented voice, and the whole crowd became silent. “I tried to kill her several times. How can she come from nowhere to take the position I aspired to get for so long? I’m responsible for cutting her brakes, the fire, and locking her in! The deadly spider and the car that almost hit her in Denver! If it weren’t for this today, I would have probably succeeded!”

“I gave her poisonous herbs to not only render her barren, but they would have eventually killed her. I slipped some in her food every day for them to start the effects in her body. This should have weakened her. She shouldn’t be here! Cain is mine; we should have mated by now! I have loved him since I was a little girl. I have dreamt of becoming his mate since then. When he became Alpha, I admired him even more. I thought I would be Luna, but then he found a mate in Sarah. I had to take her out so that he would be free to have me, and then this bitch came along and ruined everything! You don’t deserve to be Luna of this pack!”

Loud murmurings filled the air at Hannah’s confession. Amelia shifted her gaze from the wretched woman to her mate. Cain was extremely pale before color returned to his face. His features hardened again. He stared at Hannah with fury, then lunged towards her and grabbed her by the neck.

“What.Did.You.Do.To.Sarah?” he asked in between clenched teeth.

She barely choked out. “The same thing I’ve been doing to Amelia. When I saw that you were still not willing to breed outside your marriage, I gave her poisoned herbs. Which eventually killed her.”

Cain let out a growl and tightened his grip around Hannah’s neck. Amelia read his intentions in his mind to kill her and quickly used her witch powers to stop him and gently drew him away from Hannah.

“She’s not worth it,” she said and relaxed the golden glow that she had used to stop him.

He lifted his eyes to hers, and she strode over to him and put her arms around him. Offering him the comfort he so desperately needed.

“Please, you don’t have to kill her,” she repeated and turned to look at Hannah, who was glaring at them with hatred.

“You better allow him to kill me now that everything is out in the open. You don’t deserve him, you damn witch. Cain was supposed to be mine, and you took him from me!”

“Silence!” Cain barked. “That is enough from you! You will leave now and never return. You are banned from this pack! If you’re caught within a foot of Amelia, I will tear you to pieces!”

He signaled for his lieutenant werewolves, who rushed forward to do his bidding.

Hannah repeatedly screamed as she was taken away while the clan gawked at her. The noise grew as they talked about how she could be so cruel.

Cain turned around and embraced Amelia in a bear hug. “I’m so sorry. She will never hurt you again.”

Tears welled up in Amelia’s eyes at his declaration of love. “I’m so sorry about Sarah. I love you.”

“I love you too, Amelia. So damn much it would kill me to lose you.”

“You won’t.”

As Cain took her lips and then hugged her tight.

Not far behind him, Amelia suddenly saw her grandmother and Sarah together smiling at them. Tears went down Amelia’s face when she realized both were watching over her and Cain all along. She realized Sarah really was in her dream, and she protected her from meeting her own fate.

Sarah and her grandmother brought them together, and she would be forever grateful for it. A bright light suddenly appeared, and both of the ghost figures turned back and went towards it. As they disappeared, Amelia knew that everything would be fine from now on.
