Chapter 4

ROSE P.O.V

The bright and warm sunlight poured through the window and poked at my eyes. Rubbing my eyes, I tried adjusting my vision to the sudden brightness, and within seconds of realizing that I had been unconscious last night, I was on my feet, processing the events of last night. Panic kicked in. The first question that arose in my mind was,

Who was he?

Quickly my eyes landed on the bed beside mine, but it was empty. Where was Grace? Maybe she already left for the University and let me sleep in, I thought.

Glancing at my bedside clock, I was in a new state of panic altogether.

‘Shoot! I'm so late and it's already 7 a.m.’

Rushing to the shower room, I took the quickest shower of my life and jumped out looking like a scalded cat. Covering my damp hair with a towel, I rushed to my room only to see Grace combing out her long black hair.

“What happened last night? How did I get back here? Who was he?” I threw all these questions at her that were swirling through my mind immediately.

She stood up from her bed, “Where did you go? We tried to find you everywhere, and when we couldn't find you we thought that you would have come back to the dorm, so we just came here and found you sleeping in your bed,” she replied nonchalantly.

I was so confused and so many questions were going around my mind, ‘Who was he? Why did he help me? Where did he go?’

“I have no idea, Grace I was lost and I heard someone call me from behind and when I tried to turn around, my clumsiness kicked in. I almost tripped and fell but he grabbed me quickly and after that I just….. I don't remember anything at all, I'm just so confused!” she just gave me a reassuring smile, trying to be understanding of my situation.

“So who was the knight in shining armour?” Grace teased, wiggling her eyebrows.

“I really don't know who he was!!” I sighed and retorted dramatically, making my way over to her bed and taking a seat.

“Hey, whenever you need someone to talk to, about anything at all or about this incident, I'm always there” she said with a reassuring smile, reaching out to hold my shoulder, sitting right beside me.

“Thank you.” I said, a genuine smile on my face.

Grace and I got ready and headed towards our college. I hadn't talked much with anyone. All I was able to think about was him. I couldn't see his face because he was wearing a hoodie, but those thoughts wouldn't stop prowling around in my mind, also not letting me forget about his beautiful tattoos.

We sat at our desks, and I had immediately noticed a guy sitting in the corner of the room, staring right at us. When I focused on who he was staring at,

“Woah! Grace has got an admirer,” I said, putting my hands on my chest dramatically.

“No way! He’s just a friend” she blushed, realizing who I was referring to.

“What is his name, will you not introduce him?” I asked playfully.

“His name is Zain,” she said half blushing.

“Hmm, so our admirer's name is Zain,” I said in a sing-song voice. As I was about to turn around to talk to Renee and Violet, the classroom doors opened and Professor Steel entered.

Today though, he was not alone, he was with a boy. Ruggedly handsome, the boy was wearing a black long sleeve t-shirt, the color played beautifully on his pale neck in the warm wind, the fabric was snug enough to show the shape of his chiseled chest. His dark black hair pushed back from his face making his emerald green eyes pop, demanding my full attention. I then realized just how beautiful his eyes actually were. The Professor cleared his throat and introduced the boy to the class

“My dear students, this is Mr. Lorenzo Mat, our new student”

As Professor Steel went outside, Lorenzo's eyes found its way to mine and I couldn't stop myself from admiring, how handsome he was!

Lorenzo sounds like an italian name. Wait, so is he Italian?

It was as if he heard my thoughts, he looked straight at me, flexed and wiggled his eyebrows, a smile lighting his face up, one to match the cheeky gleam in his eyes.

“Now who’s the one gawking at the new guy, tell me?” Grace teased.

“No!! I'm not!” I hastily defended myself.

“Sure, sure, I know,” she mused at me.

Throughout our conversation, my eyes had flickered repeatedly in his direction. He sat at a desk opposite to mine and kept a smirk on his face. I tried my best to ignore him, but I was growing agitated.

Now came the entry of my one and only enemy, 'the girl with small shorts'. As she walked in she shot me a glare, but when her eyes landed on Lorenzo, her eyes suddenly held a seductive gleam and she walked up to him.

“Can I sit beside you?” she purred in what she thought was a seductive voice and batting her long eyelashes.

God! She made me want to puke!!

“Yeah, sure” he replied lamely.

I couldn't hear what they were talking about, but they seemed to be enjoying each other's company.

“Shyla never dates, she just roams around with the ‘cool’ guys and when she gets bored she leaves them,” Grace reassured me, noticing the way I was glaring at them.

“I don't care,” I said quickly, diverting my gaze towards the desk like it was the most interesting thing in this whole wide world, but what else could I have done? I had no options left.

The bell rang, and we all decided to go to the canteen to have our lunch. On the way there I decided to stop by the restroom in order to freshen up.

“I’ll just go to the restroom, and join you guys in the canteen” I told them, as I hastily walked off in the direction of the washrooms.

“Okay” they all said in unison.

On my way there, I saw Lorenzo walking towards me, so I quickly changed paths and walked in the direction of the gym to try and avoid him, yet he still continued to follow me. He walked so gracefully and was fast too. When I entered the gym, no one was there, and as I was about to turn around and tell him to bloody get lost when I noticed that he had locked the door behind us.

I tried to walk towards the door to exit the gym but he stopped me.

“Where are you going Señorita?” he asked in his thick Italian accent, his voice was ice cold and full of naughtiness. In a different situation, I would have reminded him that my name was Rose and not Señorita, but something about him felt familiar.

“To hell” I barely managed to croak out.

He tried to come closer, but I stepped backwards, and kept taking a step until my back was touching the wall.

“Sei così bella signorina,” (translation: you are so beautiful senorita) he said, as his thumb caressed my cheek and I closed my eyes. My heart had completely stopped and for a moment there was complete silence between the two of us, the only sound being heard was that of our heavy breathing.

“What do you want from me?” I asked, keeping my eyes closed. Suddenly he began tracing his fingers up and down my neck and I could feel his breath on my lips, he smelt so sweet, just like honey.

His touch felt so familiar to me, so much so that I almost didn't remember that he was just a stranger to me. Coming back to my senses I pushed him away and said,

“No you need to stay away from me.”

I started pushing him further away from me, but he held me tightly with one hand and trailed the other over my hair, and in the most seductive tone i had ever heard he whispered,

“Sei più bella con i capelli ricci”(translation: you look more beautiful with curly hair)

“What language are you speaking? I'm not able to understand!!” I said, my irritation growing with every passing minute.

“It’s italian,” he stated proudly.

‘So my guess was right! But why is he here? Shall I ask him? No I definitely shouldn’t!’ I mentally scolded myself at the thought.

“Tante domande signorina, la risposta sono io” (Translation: so many questions Senorita, the answer is me) he said huskily and winked at me.

Did he just winked at me?

“Stop talking in Italian, it irritates me” I growled, ignoring the close proximity between the two of us.

“Italian is a romantic language, Bella.” he said in the same seductive tone in my ear, and just like that he planted a soft kiss on my neck, his cold lips felt different yet comforting in a foreign way.

With that he released me, and I was left alone wondering to myself,

'what just happened?'
