Chapter eight - Call me Diane

*Kiara's POV*

She pulled me into her room and I could've sworn I heard a crack coming from my arm. I just wanted to lessen my duties. But I did that and managed to get pulled by this idiot.
I wondered how she dressed before I came into this house. I'd only ever seen her in ceremonial dresses.

"Alrighty" she squealed. "What am I going to wear?"

"Ummm, have you picked out any options, my lady?"

"Well, no. You'll be doing that from now on because most times, my options are always trashy."

I stood there patiently waiting for her to tell me to begin. She looked at me with surprise in her glowing eyes
"Well, what are you waiting for?" She asked. "Let's get to it. Go, go, go." She laughed. Then she collaborated onto the bed.

Honestly, her laugh made me want to laugh. She seemed pretty light today. Maybe she's not that evil. Nahh, she's just excited cause her boyfriend is coming over.

I walked into her closet with confusion and amusement written all over my face. I looked at her with the same facial expression.

"What?" She asked me.

"Well, lady Diane, I just find it confusing that all the clothes I'm used to seeing aren't there."

"Actually we change our clothes every six months. So, this is my wardrobe for the rest of the year. This isn't all of it anyway, I'm shielding myself from my Christmas wardrobe so I don't wear it all before I can actually wear it all. Do you get me?"

"Yes, my lady."

"Oh and drop the lady please. We're wayy past that level. Just call me Diane from now on and I'll call you Kia.

What the hell is this bitch playing at? Okay, she either hit her head reallyyy hard or she's playing games with me.
I think she's playing games though. Or maybe this isn't Diane? Oh Goddess, what the hell is going on!? Well, this is all a façade. I'm just putting on a show, right? I guess it wouldn't hurt to add a few more acts.

"Okay, Diane." I said as sheepishly as possible.

"You know what?, Let's do this together. As a team, in a way."

"Okay." I said again.

She got up from the bed and walked to me. We started picking up pieces of clothes we liked and piling them in our arms. Once we were both satisfied, we poured them onto the bed and began to mix and match and pair them together. Once we were finished, we had 10 pairs of clothes and 3 other dresses.

"You know, this was kinda fun" she commented. "I really don't know what's going on with me but I think I'm actually starting to like you Kia."

"Strangely, I feel the same way."

"I don't think I'm gonna bother you with my clothing decisions for a while now, I already have so many paired clothes."

"You know, if I was less busy, I could help you pair up your other clothes."

"Really?" She squealed with excitement.

"Yes" I laughed.

I felt so light hearted today but I guess I wasn't the only one with that feeling. Something was going on and I didn't like it. Well, my brain didn't like it because it didn't seem logical in any way. But my heart?, My heart told me that people could change. I felt like I'd known her for ages and it was so weird and welcoming at the same time. *Sigh*

"Well, I should probably get going now", I said.

"Yes...before my mother yells her head off just looking for you"

We both laughed heartily as we got up from the bed we lay on.

"Bye, Diane", I said.

I walked out of the room and was only a few steps into the hall way when I heard her calling my name again. But she didn't call my full name, just the short nickname she gave me.

"Kia, Kia, Kia!" She called.

I actually felt good because of the brewing friendship between us. Somehow, it felt so timeless. Like I'd known her forever. I didn't understand what was happening to me but my heart welcomed it readily.

"Kia", she said as she caught up to me.

"Yes?", I asked.

"Thank you" she said. "For all the times that you helped me and for today. I've never felt this light hearted in days. Thank you for giving me that."

"You're welcome, Diane" I said.

She pulled me into a soft but firm hug. Immediately she did, I started to feel like I'd been missing it for a long time. After a few moments, she pulled away. She was walking back into her room when I called her again:

"Diane?"

"Yeah?" She replied.

"Who's going to help you put all those clothes back into your closet?"

"I never really thought of that" she laughed sheepishly.

"Well, I don't hear the Luna calling me right now, so...how about I come help you?"

"Oh my Goddess, Kia, you're the best.

"I try." I laughed.

We walked hand in hand back into her room and put all the clothes away.

"You know, I never really had friends." She said.

Turns out, I didn't know.

"Most people just think I'm some sort of heartless, stuck up bitch but I'm way more than that. It's really nice to have you here, with me, by my side. "

"I did too" I confess. "Honestly, I thought you only laughed when people were in pain."

"Kia, I am so sorry for every time I ever tortured you or made fun of you. It was just obligation. Being adopted and all, I just had to please my parents. But I guess I could've been like my brother, Cal"

"It's okay, I guess. What's done is done" I replied.

"Yes, I just wish it wasn't so bad."

"And I also wish you're not just playing games with me" I said. Oh my God, I did not just say that out loud. I felt like a complete idiot. A desperate one at that.

"I promise you, I'm not" she replied and it felt strangely genuine.

I believed what she said and we went on talking and laughing for what seemed like hours but was only just a few minutes.

"Once again, thank you, Kia" she said.

"You're welcome Diane." I replied. We both said our goodbyes and I left the room with a beautiful feeling in my heart.
