Chapter ten - Friends

*Kiara's POV*

Today was the last day of preparations and luckily for me, it was my day off. Even better, I was alone in my room. Peace and quiet. Exactly what I needed. Well...peace, quiet and rest anyway. My whole body had been aching the last week and finally, I could ease them.

I heard a soft knock at the door and I groaned. Who was that and what did they want? Couldn't a girl have some alone time? Reluctantly, I got up from my bed and was about to open the door before I stopped. I didn't know who it was and I was going to open the door.

"Who is it?" I hollered.

"It's Diane" the voice replied.

"Go away" I said as coldly as possible.

She whimpered in emotional pain. Serves her right. I was washing dishes and scrubbing floors and my break was taken away because of her. I wasn't ready to talk.

"Kiara, open the door" she said. "Please?" She added.

"Go away, Diane"

"Kia, please"

Like she knew I would break that way. She used the nickname she had given me. But I kept telling myself "I will not break, I will not break, Oh Goddess, I'm breaking"

And I opened the door for her. I didn't want it to seem like the nickname was my weak spot so as rudely as possible, I asked "What?"

"Kia, I'm really sorry. I didn't think it would get your break called off. I'm really really sorry."

"I've heard you. I get it, you're sorry. Are we done here? Cause I need to get some rest" I replied straining the word rest as much as possible.

I put my hand on the door knob and began to close the door when something suddenly blocked it. I looked down and saw Diane's foot.

"Move your foot or I'll move it and you won't like the result of that."

"I'm trying to apologize but you're just making this harder for both of us"

"Move your foot, Diane" I hissed.

She moved her foot and I locked the door. I was only a step away from the bed when there was a rapid knock on the door.

"Who is it?" I yelled

No reply. I figured it was because of my unnecessary coldness. Diane really took all the peace out of me. I was stressed, angry and tired all at the same time. I took a deep breath and tried again. This time, a little nicer.

"Who is it?"

I flipped onto my bed and waited for a reply. None came. I guess they were still a bit shaken.

"You know what, just come in" I said mildly.

The door knob opened and the last person I'd expected walked in with a huge grin.

"What the hell, Diane? I thought I told you to leave" I yelled my anger resurfacing.

"Well, you did but you also told me to come back in" she said grinning from ear to ear like the idiot she was.

"You're an idiot" I said.

"So are you" she replied

"Get out"

"Kia, don't be like this"

I got up from the bed and walked up to her.

"Then how should I be? Huh?"

"Honestly, I don't know. But just not like this. Come on, dude, we're supposed to be friends"

"Well friends don't shorten their friends only break"

"Kiara, I am really sorry"

"Your apology doesn't change shit"

"Really?" She asked

I looked at her in a way I'd look at a psycho.

"Really" I said

"Are you really sure?" She asked again.

"Well, yeah, I'm sure"

"Really really sure?"

"Oh my God" I laughed out.

"But seriously. If you sorry doesn't change anything then at least let me try to make it up to you."

"And how do you plan on doing that?"

"Well, I really don't know yet..."

"Oh wow"

"You didn't even let me finish"

"Well get on with it"

"Okay, I don't know yet but I'll figure something out. Trust me."

"Okay, fine. I'll let you try"

"Yay! I'll start brainstorming and then I'll get back to you" she said as she started to leave the room

"Don't even come back" I mumbled.

"What was that?" She asked

"I said I didn't hear you. What did you say?"

"Oh, it was nothing"

"Oh okay"

"Byeeeeeeeeee" I said adding as many "e's" as possible in order to sound excited. She finally closed the door and I heard her footsteps walking down the hallway.

"Ughhh, it's over." I said to myself. "Now, I can finally get some peace and quiet. No disturbances, No apologies and No Diane.

I lay on my bed and closed my eyes and a wave of comfort swept over me.

I slept for what felt like hours before I suddenly felt a hand smack my ass.

"What the hell?" I mumbled

I felt the hand reach out to repeat the action and I swept out mine to grab it.

"Dude, calm down. It's just me" I turned around and saw Diane.

"Do not do that again. I could've broken your arm."

"Well I'd been tapping you for ages and you weren't responding."

"So, you had to smack me!? Why are you even here? What are you doing here?"

"I'm trying to make it up to you, remember?"

"Yeah, yeah. So, what's your plan?"

"Well I was thinking a really nice massage first, then ice cream and then giving you what I know you really want. Peace and quiet."

"Okay, you really thought all this through"

"What flavor are we talking about here?"

"You look like a strawberry person, so..."

"Do not insult me. I am not a strawberry person. I will have vanilla and only vanilla.

"But...I have a condition"

"What is it?"

"You have to apologize to all the other servants"

"Well, I can't do that standing here, so let's go"

She put my hand in hers and led me to her room. I walked in and saw that she'd prepared the bed for the massage. I almost laughed my head off when I saw everything in place. There was even a little grape bowl on the bedside table.

"You did this yourself?" I asked.

"Yes. Now let's get on with it, we don't have all day."

Turns out, she was pretty good at giving massages. All my aching body parts were completely soothed. I was as relaxed as possible. Then, we went over to the kitchen and she apologized to the servants publicly. They were all touched and nodded their heads in approval. We got ice cream in different flavours and I actually tried out strawberry. Still didn't like it, sadly. Then after all the events of the day, I was officially tired out.

We walked back to the room still laughing and cracking jokes.

"So, am I officially forgiven?" She asked

"Yes. Sorry for being so hard on you. Today was actually fun"

"Of course it was, I planned it"

I laughed at her comment.

"So, friends?" I asked

"Friends" she replied.

She pulled me into a huge bear hug and pulled apart a few seconds later. We both said our goodbyes as I slid into my room and flopped onto my bed.

This chapter was so cute. It made me think of my best friend. She's an idiot but I still love her. Diane is so nice it's almost too good to be true and her friendship with Kiara is so cherished❤️sooo cute.
