Chapter 39: Rivers.

“So I checked up on the wolf that turned you.” Evangeline was standing in a bar next to the guy who said it. He was dark skinned, but had soft hazel eyes. Evangeline had to admit, she forgot at times how attractive he was.

“And?”

“Peter Brent. A lone wolf, no pack. Last my sources heard, he was on some crazy new drug. Was a complete addict. Must have barely even been aware of what he was doing.”

“Thanks Lucas.”

“So he was just a random… But the substance interested me. Well… The dealer did, anyway.”

“And the dealer was?”

“Darren Daniel Rivers.”

“Who?”

“Currently, the vampire who is trying to expose all of us supernaturals.”

“I was turned as part of some kind of political plot?”

“Sorry kiddo.”

“I’m not a kid.”

“You’re like seventeen.”

“I’m old enough.”

“Okay, whatever you say.”

“You shouldn’t take me lightly.”

“Oh?”

“I’d fuck you up sixteen different ways without blinking.”

“If you think so, little wolf.”

“And then I’d make you like it.”

“Oh.”

“Anyway, Rivers, tell me about him.”

“Well, last I’ve heard… And I don’t think you’re going to like this.”

“Lay it on me.”

“He’s heading to Thornville to recruit. His target is newly turned vamps.”

“Fuck.”

“You know one?”

“Do I fucking ever. Thanks Lucas.”

“You owe me one.”

“Do I ever… I’ll see you later.”

“Where are you going?”

“Gotta make a call. Love you.”

“Evangeline…” Lucas sighed.

Evangeline put on her jacket, then hugged Lucas from behind.

“Hey, don’t worry.” She kissed his neck. “Always, right?”

“Always.” He turned around and cupped her cheek. She smiled, and he kissed her.

“Stop it, I’ll fall in love with you.”

“Oh you know it’s too late for that.”

“I do. But sometimes I fall in love with you again.”

“Only sometimes? You’d hate to be me. I fall in love with you every day.” Lucas said. Evangeline bit her bottom lip.

“You’re so bloody smooth.”

“Damn. She knows.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Evangeline pulled her phone out. She dialled Owen’s number, but it went to voicemail. She cursed loudly.
