Chapter 1

I woke up in the middle of the night and I hold my head. I sigh before I stood up and head downstairs because since I forgot to bring milk or water with me, I need to get a glass of one of it because I need it at this time of night.

I grab something to drink and I almost flipped when I heard someone opened the back door. I almost choke on my drink and head towards the back door before someone showed himself.

"Holy shit", I breathed out.

he chuckled, "Don't you know what day is today??", he asked.

I sighed and open the door wider for him to get in, "Shut the fuck up, Adrian", I said.

"Audrey, hey", he said while getting inside the house. I turn around and he smiled before giving me a kiss on both cheeks and gave me a hug. "Happy birthday to you, little sister", he said.

I shook my head, "Thanks", I said.

"Come on, it's your birthday", he said.

I shrug, "It's the middle of the night, Adrian. I want to sleep, you can sleep here if you want. Mom and dad are gone until next week, I'm here for myself", I said.

"This house is goddamn huge. You wanna throw a party? Just for tonight", he asked.

I shrug, "I don't know. I still have things to do", I said.

"Like what??", He asked.

"Just... Things I have to do, Adrian. I have school today, feel free to crash in", I said while walking back to my room.

I didn't say anything else, I just walk towards my bed and lay on it. Thinking why the fuck my brother wanted to come home once a month only? Like, It doesn't make any sense at all. And it's not on certain dates or anything, or days.

I shook my head and just enjoy my sleep because I have another day at school tomorrow. Which I am not looking forward to, certain reasons. One, senior year sucks. Two, I have no friends that are very close to me. Mostly just friends who passes by. Sucks I know. But who can complain? I can't at all.

When I entered the class, everything seems very normal. I mean, there are 0 things going on. As the teacher came, he said some few words here and there about senior year and how it would be very difficult to pass the grades and he wants us to focus. I do agree with that. Don't worry.

He starts teaching and the whole class listens. I don't have anything against the teacher, but I remembered he used to talk with my brother about something, and he talked to me about something as well. But that's it, I never see him talking with my brother since then.

I sighed and as classes goes by, I head to my locker and someone came to me, "Hey, are you having a party tonight? Happy birthday", she said.

I smiled, "Thanks. And yeah, I'm having a party at my house. Come if you like", I said.

"Cool. Thank you", she said before she talked with her friends and as I looked at her, she talked to her friends, and then her friend talk to his friends, and so on. Well, I'm having a party after all.

As I got home, I see Adrian's friends came inside the house. I sigh and head to his room and open it, "Hey, your friends are here. You invited them?", I asked.

"I did. Now, you go change and enjoy your own party. I know I will because I won't be here tomorrow", he said before walking right past me and head downstairs, already hearing his crowd go wild.
I sigh and shook my head before locking his room and I head towards mine to change my clothes. I just wear a plain black T-shirt and a pair of denim shorts along with a pair of black converse. I put on a light make up before going back down. And I just gone for 15 minutes the house is already packed.
I shook my head and lock my bedroom door, and my parents' bedroom door before heading down to the party. Adrian cling on to me before he yells, "Happy birthday, sister!!", and the crowd raised their glasses for me.
I just smiled awkwardly before getting myself a drink in the kitchen, which is not as loud as the living room. I sat on the stool and drink my beer before someone sat next to me, "Happy birthday", he said.
I smiled, "Thanks", I replied.
He shrug, "You don't look excited as Adrian", he said. Okay, now I know that he is Adrian's friend.
I shook my head, "I don't need a huge party or getting drunk. The point of celebrating is to be with your closest person, not surrounded by many people you don't know", I added.
"I guess you have a point there", he said.
I shrug and asked, "You're a friend of Adrian?"
"Yeah. He's very close to me", he replied and drink from his cup, "Don't worry, he's in good hands. He stayed with me", he added.
I looked at him surprised, "Really? Did he said anything about... Why did he left the house? I'm worried, that's all", I said.
He chuckled, "Don't worry, he's not a drug dealer. He can't get into any trouble because I babysit him, he's in good hands. But he didn't say anything about why he left, but you and your parents aren't the reason why he left, you don't have to worry about anything", he said.
I chuckled and gave him a nod, "I just hope so", I said. I looked at him the eyes and he turned to look at me before I smiled, "Audrey", I add.
He smiled and drink before he looked back to me, "Alex", he said. We talked longer than I expected, but it seems like everything is perfect, I don't even realized there's a party going on.

Megan: I think I keep reading because I like the way the author discusses the trauma the main character has been through. You can very much imagine how Lia feels terrible at pulling in others and asking for help. The focus isn’t on the actual abuse as much as it’s focused on the emotional part. I like ...
