The Girl Calm and Fair

My name is John; I was once just a simple guy who lived in a small city.  There wasn't much to do around there so no one could ever get into anything good or bad.  I guess I was ordinary; as was my friends and girlfriend.  Yet there this one girl I once knew.  She was fair and beautiful, yet she always seemed distance and tired.  I never knew why she was such a way, but I fancied her in a way.  I never told my girlfriend this, but I was pretty sure she had gotten the clue anyway from things I learned later.

Other than that, this one girl was strange; whilst everything else seemed so normal and ordinary, she stood out.  She stayed alone and quite; her only friend seemed to be a horse she owned.  It was strange, such a beautiful young woman all alone.

My curiosity with her would continue for a couple of years even as they days passed and nothing changed.  Then one day, after I had a fight with my girlfriend, I finally had the nerve to talk to her.  So, I gathered myself and went to the Equestrian park where she often went.

I remember calling her name and her turning to me and smiling slightly before asking, "Would you care to ride him?" she asked me.

She was so open to talking to me so soon.  Perhaps she had seen me watching her for we ended up carrying on a conversation as it was not the first time we had talked.  We ended up talking for hours; she was unique just as I thought.  She seemed kind and so caring.  Then came time for me to leave and the calmness from her presence changed.

Instead of saying goodbye she looked at me, laughed, and said, "She is a poison."  And just like that she left with her horse, to return him to his stall; and that was that.

It was bizarre; I never would have expected such a dark turn to the conversation, but never did I really know just how true those words she spoke were.  Later that night, once I returned home, I was hoping to resolve the fight with my girlfriend but instead… I caught her in the arms of another man.

How did she know?  How did the woman who never spoke with anyone and hardly wandered far from the Equestrian Center know such a thing was going on?

My girlfriend and I broke up that very night not to anyone's surprise.  It seemed that change had begun for me…but apparently, changed had already been festering everywhere…

reikij: I really enjoyed this book. It was very hard to put it down. The change between the different times wasdone nicely. There was no difficulty in keeping aware of which century I was in. PurpleInkling: Hippocrite is spelt hypocrite. Also it is an awesome story! A good one after so long. I was hoping someone would write a good fanficiton playing off what Ron said at the station. skippybash12: This story has engaging characters that you care about and a plot that is unpredictable and exciting. It is well written with a believable voice. Great weekend escape and if there was a sequel available I would buy it today -

John Reed: Seadrias masterfully captures the impressiveness and complex scope that a science fiction novel should provide while carefully crafting an entire universe that will leave a reader in awe from start to finish. MegaRogueLegend666: I love this story so much. It's impossible to describe my excitement with each new chapter in words. The author has such a good writing style, very good descriptions of the fighting and character descriptions/emotions. the plot is also amazing! This fanfic could be a side anime show or novel ......

Ro-Ange Olson: Loved it and couldn't put it down. I really hope there is a sequel. Well written and the plot really moves forward.

Jade Jez: What a wonderful, immersive book from Eliott McKay. It starts with an air of mystery, introducing main character Michaela, the clumsy teenager. From there, it whisks you off your feet and dumps you into a beautifully written world where you can almost smell and hear everything happening. I go...

Felisa Yoder Osburn: I really enjoyed the story. Civil War stories are some of my favorites and the intertwining of the past with current times was wonderful. I look forward to reading the next stories.

ga1984: I really enjoyed it! Characters were deep and plot was pretty complex. A bit on the violent side but it doesnt detract from the story. Very dark but situations make sense. Ends kinda abruptly and later chapters will need some editing work. I'm assuming there's more in the works?

Warchief: The biggest problem with the Harry Potter series is that it's all from his point of view. So we never really get to see or understand events from other peoples perspective. I think that they would be more than a few people that want to know what happened at Hogwarts during that last year.As far a...

Noelle Anselmo: Jesus H Christ! When I saw this was a genderbent I though it was just gonna be the two main characters, but I was so wrong and I LOVED IT!
