Chapter 36- Interrupted Moments
“There. Now your future husband should be very jealous of me,” I glared at him and pushed away, moving to walk back into the room and I heard him chuckle before his footsteps followed me.
He just had to ruin the moment.
I was going to leave the room but a sudden arm took hold of my wrist and spun me around, pulling me forward and I felt myself collide with his chest again. Vince chuckled, wrapping his arms around me and peppering kisses all over my head.
“I like you, Nora,”
And just like that, he not only fixed the moment but made it feel like he never even ruined it.
My breath hitched and my heart rate spiked faster.
I’ll never get used to it, this feeling in my chest that he made me feel so easily. According to his words, it would seem that he felt the same about me too.
“I...” I started, my face heating up with a shy blush and I looked down at the ground.
Vince patiently waited for me to raise my head and look him in the eyes again. He smiled at me, making me even shyer but I mustered up the courage and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, gulping back my heart and pushing myself forward.
Stretching upward on my tip-toes with my hands on his shoulders for balance, I placed my lips on his cheek and felt him freeze under me.
“I like you too, Vince,” I gleamed up at him with a smile.
He was unmoving for a moment. A weird expression on his face which was mixed with confusion, shock and surprise all in one. With widened eyes and a mouth which was slightly agape, he quickly regained his composure and coughed.
Lips tilting up into another smile, he stepped closer and interlocked his arms around me, leaning down to rest his face in the crook of my neck.
“Thank god for that,” I heard him whisper and I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Am I ruining a happy moment?”
The sudden voice scared me beyond words and I jumped away from Vince, feeling as if I were a little child that got caught for doing something naughty. I would know, I’ve had my fair share of scolding while growing up.
“Yes,” Vince answered with a glare directed at his one and only sister who had awkwardly announced her presence with a large grin on her face.
“No... You didn’t,” I quickly waved the man off and stepped forward to hug my friend who didn’t hesitate to hug me back ten times tighter. If not for the fact that I wasn’t completely human, I would surely have suffered some sort of damage from that hug.
“I’m so happy you’re okay. Are you okay?” I nodded when she began observing me from head to toe to make sure I wasn’t lying.
“I was so worried, I couldn’t sleep all night,”
“Liar. I heard you snoring,” Vince subtly slid in, pulling me away from his sister’s embrace.
“That was my husband,”
“Lucien doesn’t snore,” Vince stuck his tongue out at her and she scoffed at him.
“How would you even hear me snore? I was on the other end of the wing,” She placed her hands on her waist and glared at her twin.
“Everyone in the whole manor probably heard you snoring. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was loud enough to even wake Nora up from her coma,”
I couldn’t help the laugh that broke through my voice but thankfully, Charlotte didn’t pay attention to it and instead continued to try and embarrass her brother.
Keyword being tried... Since Vince kept getting back at her so easily.
“I need you to contact me immediately if you find them. Immediately,” Alistair didn’t waste a second to nod his head after catching my intense gaze.
I leaned forward on his desk and groaned into my hands, anger boiling in me at the mere thought of Alpheus and Conrad walking around freely.
“I’ll contact the other Kingdoms too... and tell them to put them on the wanted list,” I turned to look out the window with a long, annoyed sigh.
“Don’t worry, we’ll catch them soon. With so many people searching for them, there’s no way they can move around freely and plan something in time,” His words weren’t very assuring since it was Alpheus we were talking about.
“He’s an old man. How in the world is he even able to move around so much?” I muttered to myself but Alistair heard and opened his mouth to speak but stopped himself.
“What? Tell me,” I glared.
“Well... According to your father...”
“What?” I narrowed my gaze, mentally telling him to hurry the hell up with his words.
“Alpheus has been in contact with Conrad for quite some time, we don’t know for how long exactly and we didn’t know it was with Conrad either until you found him the other day but... Well, it would seem that he’s been getting some sort of drug...”
“Yes. We’re not sure exactly what drug but we found remnants of it in the inn that they were hiding out in. People are already working on finding out exactly what it is but the few things that are known for sure is that it expands... your... lifeline,”
I slammed my fist onto the table causing Alistair to jump and glowered at the space in front of me. I wasn’t even surprised by this but the thought was just horrid. How many people must Conrad have experimented on to come up with a drug like that?
“Not only does it expand your lifeline by a few years but it makes you feel younger and gives you energy-” I raised my hand as a gesture for him to stop talking and he did.
“Tell everything you know about it to my brother before we leave. I’ll hear the rest from him,” I gulped down the remainder of the drink in my glass and slammed the cup down with a frown.
“I’ll be heading back to Lysandra in a few hours,” I didn’t look up to see his face from my slouching position but I could sense the nod he gave me.
I massaged my temples for a few seconds, trying to calm myself down before leaving the room and slung my head back on the chair with closed eyes.
“Where’s Nora?” I eventually asked, my mind drifting off to the lady that was able to calm me down with the mere thought of her.
I opened my eyes to look at Alistair when he didn’t reply to my question and his lips were tilted up into a small, reminiscent smile.
“Why are you smiling at me like that? It’s creepy,” I gave him a weird look.
“You know... I used to like your mother,” He suddenly said.
“Um... okay,” I awkwardly replied with furrowed brows, not knowing how else to reply. Why should I care that he had a crush on my mother? It didn’t matter since my mother was head over heels in love with my father.
“But she picked your father and I couldn’t do anything about it... but you know... You’re nothing like either of your parents? Who did you get your personality from?”
“Myself. I created my own personality, I’m not like anyone,” I immediately answered since this wasn’t the first time I heard this question but honestly... the person that my personality relates to the most is none other than Alpheus, my grandfather.
I hate the fact but it’s true... but then again, in a weird way, I was also the complete opposite of him despite being so closely similar to him.
Alistair chuckled at me, watching me get out of the seat.
“Eleanora’s in the training grounds,” He answered my previous question and I stopped, my hand already on the door handle.
“What’s she doing there?” I mumbled to myself, leaving the room and shutting the door behind me, ignoring Alistair’s goodbye.
