Chapter 57- A Happy Man
“Where are you going?” I turned to see Nora standing by the steps of the main staircase as I glided down them, stopping in front of her and holding her face in my hands as I kissed her on the forehead.
“I have to go find the mastermind,” I whispered.
“Great. Let’s go,” She nodded her head and I blinked, confused.
“Where do you think you’re going?” I asked, crossing my arms as she innocently stared back at me, gold eyes glittering with an unfamiliar emotion.
“You just said we’re going to find the mastermind,” She tilted her head to the side.
“No, I said that I was going. Not you,” Her brows furrowed as she glared at me. “I’m coming too,” She stubbornly stated and I sighed, holding back a smile and shook my head.
“Why not?” She decided to ask.
“Because I don’t want you to get hurt,” I honestly answered.
“Then there’s nothing to worry about, I can look after myself better than any of you,” She proudly said with a smirk as she crossed her arms.
“And yet you’re the one that fell into a coma twice in the time that we’ve known each other,” I smartly retorted as her face picked up a shade of red and I laughed, leaning in to peck her lips which only caused her face to brighten even more.
“But... but...” She stuttered, racking her brain for another excuse.
“Stay here where you’ll be safe. I’ll be back before you know it,” I whispered in her ear and stepped back, a satisfied smile on my face.
“I really didn’t want to have to use this card,” She said after a deep breath.
“What card?” I asked, confused.
“If you let me go... then... I’ll...” She drifted off nervously, itching the back of her neck but her shyness only seemed to increase my curiosity.
“You’ll what?” I smirked, crossing my arms. “You’ll sleep with me?” I joked only to end up choking on air when she nodded her head.
“Wh-What!?” I shouted.
“Well, I’ll have to sleep with you at some point if I marry you,” She mumbled and I have never felt my heart beat faster than it was right now.
“So... I’ll marry you... If you let me go with you. I promise I won’t cause any problems and if there’s any danger then I’ll-” I cut her off. She gasped as I jumped forward, picking her up in my arms as I spun the two of us around.
Putting her back on the ground but keeping my arms wrapped around her waist, I leaned down to kiss her on the lips, deeper than I ever remember doing and she slowly kissed back.
“Is that a yes to my proposal?” I smirked at her, pulling away and slowly, she nodded her head.
If I have to become a cringy fool like my father to have her in my life then I’ll do it in a heartbeat. Who knew? That I, Vincenzo, the notorious womanizer, would end up falling in love with a 400-year-old mage?
“I love you,” I whispered, not waiting to hear her reply as I impatiently pushed myself forward to kiss her again and pulled her arms up to wrap around my shoulders while I pushed us both back to lean against the railing of the staircase.
“You, Eleanora, have made me the happiest man alive,” I whispered.
Half an hour later, Nora was sat in front of me on Amadeus as we rode towards the Grand Duke’s estate, Don coming with us along with a few other guards while I filled Nora in on everything that had happened with the bandits.
The Grand Duke of Syberis had the biggest estate in all of Lysandra, being the most powerful family in all the kingdom after the royals, the Navarro family have been known to be loyal allies to the royal family since the first King’s reign.
The Navarro family’s estate was over 30 acres big, with a large private forest, a large stable, golf course and more but in the centre, the red-brick mansion stood proudly, the size was enough to rival Redfield palace.
The land had been passed down from generation to generation, modernising over the years and expanding too. Many even argued that the Navarro’s held more influence than the royal family themselves and up until now, I really didn’t mind that.
Since Damien Navarro was like a second father to me.
I grew up respecting this man on the same level as my father and I don’t believe that he could have been the mastermind. There was no way, he was best friends with my father for years. He wouldn’t do something like this.
We galloped down the cobblestone road until we caught sight of some security guards standing in front of the main gate, faces lighting up in surprise when they caught sight of me and almost dropped down to their knees in a deep bow.
“Your royal majesty!” One of the guards greeted while the other two went to pull the gate up.
“Where’s the Grand Duke?” I heard myself ask.
“He would be in his office. I’ll alert the workers to get him,”
“No need. I’ll go by myself,” The guard was confused but slowly nodded his head before stepping out of the way to let me and my men through.
I jumped off of Amadeus and held Nora’s waist as I brought her down too, holding her hand in mine before entering the manor and the butler led us towards the Duke’s study.
I never thought that simply having Nora stand beside me would be so comforting. If not for her presence, I would have gone mad by now.
Don followed us as the butler knocked on the door.
“My Grace. His royal majesty, King Vincenzo has arrived,” The butler announced and there was a moment of silence until a deep voice replied. “Enter,” and the door was pushed open.
I stepped into the room to see the man sat behind his desk, signing away on some papers with some specs on his nose bridge. When he noticed my figure stopping in front of his, his pen came to a halt and he looked up, a small smirk on his face.
“You sure took your time,”
