Chapter 61- Unsuspecting Nobles

--Vincenzo POV--

“Shall we go?” I asked and she nodded her head.

“Are you sure?”

“I’m sure,” She didn’t even hesitate which I wished she would have because that gave me a good enough excuse to let her stay behind where it would be safer. Alas, I don’t know what else I was supposed to have expected. So, with a whip of my reigns, we rode forward, the sky starting to slowly brighten with the first few rays of morning lights.

We rode for hours with only a handful of breaks, entering the west forest when the sun had begun to set, we stopped our horses on the border of the forest and I jumped off of Deus, tying him up to a nearby tree branch while Nora was still sat on him.

“We have to be quiet from here on out,” I told the men before turning to look at Nora and placed my hands on her waist, pulling her down.

“Can you locate them?” I asked but she was already on it and began walking into the forest and Don and I were quick to follow.

“This forest is so creepy at night,” Don muttered out as he followed Nora with a lamp in hand.

“But it’s beautiful during the day, like something out of a fairytale story,” I mumbled, my eyes not once leaving Nora as she walked through the forest with closed eyes but didn’t once trip. It was as if she could see more than us even though she’s the one that had her eyes closed.

We walked for what felt like years until she suddenly stopped and everyone, including myself, stopped with her. She opened her eyes and looked around the area cautiously before a small smirk crept onto her lips.

“What is it?” I asked.

“Hm. Oh? It’s nothing,” She quickly waved off and walked a few steps ahead of me and climbed a bit up a tree before pushing the leaves away and peering down into the area ahead of us.

“Found them,” She whispered before jumping down effortlessly and landing gracefully in front of me but I was too busy processing her words to admire how cool she was.

“Where?” I decided to ask.

She nudged her head as a sign to follow her and so I did, watching as she pushed some branches out of the way and peered down the steep hill to where I could faintly catch the glimmering of some lanterns.

I put two fingers up and pointed forward as Don and a few other guards quickly surrounded me as quietly as they could.

“Surround the area and wait for my signal. Don’t let even one of them get away,” I whispered and the men nodded before running away to tell the other and within a few minutes, it was just me, Nora and Don left here.

“Don, you stay with Nora. I’m going to go find a place where I can stay hidden and watch everything,” I whispered before turning around and catching Nora’s gaze.

“Take Don with you,” She whispered and I shook my head.

“His job will be to protect you,” I moved forward to cup her face in my hands.

“I don’t need protecting,” She mumbled.

“I know you don’t... but it’ll keep me from worrying,” I smirked and she held my gaze. Leaning down, I pecked her lips when she didn’t say anything further and pulled away with a satisfied smile, not being able to help myself and leaning down to kiss her lips once more.

“Okay. Be careful,” She whispered and I nodded.

“Keep her safe,” I told my best friend and he nodded his head as I moved to kiss Nora’s forehead before turning away and running away to find a place to hide.

I stared down at all the unsuspecting nobles that were dressed in fancy clothes with their faces covered by different kinds of masks and smirked in eagerness to hurry up and catch them all red-handed.

My father’s been worried about the black market’s organisation before I was even born but I’m glad to say that I’ll finally be putting those worries of his to rest.

One of the sick bastards here hired an assassin to kill my older brother when he was still a baby and I’m going to find out which one of these bastards dared to do such a thing then I’ll make them swallow my sword.

I climbed up the tree that I had been leaning against and once high enough, I held onto the bark as I looked down at the clearer view, almost throwing up at the sight.

My people, a handful of them ranging from boys to girls from what looked to be from the ages of 10 to maybe 20 were handcuffed and bound, looking terrified but were forced to hold back their tears in fear of the masked man that stood by them with a gun and sword in hand.

The other nobles and rich people paid no attention to them and only laughed along with each other as they drank their expensive beverages and observed the other selling items. I spied some guns, jewellery and other stuff.

“Can I please have everyone’s attention!” My eyes drifted over to the man that stood on the small stage, a large, excited grin on his face as everyone began to quieten down, walking towards the stage where he stood.

“Today is a joyous day! We’ve all gathered here, right under the nose of our childish King who has absolutely no idea of our organisation! How a man like that managed to become King is beyond me, it’s quite pathetic, isn’t it!?”

I scoffed, rolling my eyes and memorised the man’s masked face so I could personally make him regret these words when I caught him.

As everyone laughed and agreed with him, I had to clutch onto the tree to make sure that I wouldn’t just jump out and kill them all in cold blood right here and now.

“Patience, Vincenzo. Patience is key,” I muttered to myself, glaring at the small crowd.

“Now! Shall we begin with our auctioning!?” The man shouted and the crowd cheered along, having no idea about what was about to go down.

This night wasn’t going to end well for these bastards.

Not one bit.
