Chapter 70- Happily Ever After
I watched her tiredly staring up at the leaves that hung on the trees on this sunny summer’s day while she caressed Leo’s mane, the lion sat beside her under the shade of the tree as she yawned and I worriedly continued to stare at her.
Nora was being so hard on herself, no matter how many people told her how good of a Queen she was, she simply wouldn’t believe it and only said that she had to be better.
She’s been missing sleep, losing her appetite and this morning she threw up at the smell of Silas’s coffee so I decided to finally call the doctor without her knowledge since every time I would suggest it, she would only say that she’s perfectly fine.
Her appearance itself said that she was anything but fine, her once caramel skin was now as white as snow and she had bags under her eyes. I faintly remembered waking up throughout the night to see her getting out of bed to go to the bathroom.
“What’s wrong?” My best friend asked, coming to stand by me as he stared at a smiling Nora in the distance. No matter how she was feeling, she always had a faint smile on her face.
“I’m worried,” I answered honestly.
“She’ll be fine. The doctor’s coming today so we’ll just confirm it then,” He assured.
“How’s Maria?” I asked, changing the subject to his wife and he chuckled.
“She’s good,” Don got married to Maria not long after she caught the bouquet at my wedding and she moved to Lysandra after saying goodbye to her family in Ebraxas. Maria’s mother, Victoria wasn’t very happy that her only child was getting married to a knight instead of a King but other than her, everyone else was beyond happy for them.
As for Silas, he finally realised that he wasn’t attracted to women.
I had an idea that he was gay but I didn’t want to say it aloud and alarm him so I simply waited for him to find out himself which took longer than expected but we were all happy for him once he did find out and he himself is ecstatic about it.
And then there was Charlotte who found out that she was infertile. Despite how heartbreaking it was for her and Lucien to find that out, she didn’t think about it and the two of them are happily on their way to adopt a child from the orphanage.
I talked with Don for some time until he went to go train with the men and I went to Nora, sitting on the grass in front of her as she fiddled around with some flowers.
I stroked Leo’s mane while staring at her, waiting for her to look up and when she did, I jumped forward, capturing her in my arms before showering her with a million kisses. She laughed, wrapping her arms around my neck until I pulled away.
“What was that for?” She asked.
“I was jealous that you were giving the flower more attention than your husband,” She only rolled her eyes at that and patted my shoulder as she stood up. I stood up with her but Leo continued to stay on the ground, opening his mouth wide as he yawned and I shivered when I saw his sharp teeth.
“What did you do today?” I asked, holding her hand as we walked around the garden.
“Nothing much, I woke up, had breakfast with Silas and Char, did some paperwork for the charity ball in a few weeks and now I’m here for some fresh air,” She sighed and I hummed.
“I have a question though,” She said, stopping and turning to look at me as I nudged my head as a sign of telling her to continue.
“Are you still going to do the festival?”
“The festival...” I mumbled, confused as to what she was talking about until my lips opened up in realisation. “Right, Eleanora’s festival,” I said, placing my hand on her cheek as she waited for me to reply.
“Yes,” I answered without hesitation.
“Why? Isn’t it a bit weird?”
“Eleanora’s festival is a festival to celebrate you in thanks of helping create this Kingdom and whether you’re real or not which you quite obviously are, you’re still the same person that created this Kingdom and so, this festival will continue to happen,” I said.
She hummed, staring at the ground for a moment.
“Eleanora,” I said. Her head moved to look at me, eyes fogging up with confusion since I didn’t call her by her nickname.
“You are an amazing Queen,” I whispered, smiling when her eyes widened in slight surprise. “You created this Kingdom from the ground up. I don’t think anyone is as worthy of the crown as much as you. If you were still my mage and I still had my wish...” I drifted off.
“What would you have wished?” She asked, tilting her head to the side.
“For you to be happy,” I sighed.
“Then your wish came true because I have never been this happy before,” She gleamed.
“Then I would wish for you to accept the fact that you’re an amazing Queen and for you to stop being so hard on yourself. This Kingdom is thriving now more than ever thanks to your leadership skills. I only wish that you could see it,”
We had a long staring contest until she sighed, smiling at me before getting on her tiptoes to lightly kiss my lips. “Okay,” She nodded, pulling away as I smiled at her.
The smile didn’t stay for long though when I saw her stumble and quickly grabbed her by the shoulders.
“Are you okay?” I asked. Her eyes opened and closed as she repeatedly blinked, placing a hand on her forehead as she glared at the ground, shaking her head.
“Everything’s... spinning-” Then her eyes closed and she fell unconscious in my arms.
“Nora!” I called, patting her cheek. “Nora, wake up. Open your eyes,” I called but she didn’t move. “Guards! Guards!” I furiously screamed.
An hour or so later, I was in our chambers, sat by her sleeping figure as the doctor checked her heartrate with her stethoscope.
“Well... Is she going to be okay?” I asked when I noticed the doctor beginning to pack her things into her bag. She stood up and I stood up with her, walking around the bed to stand in front of her and nodded at her to continue.
“She’ll be fine,” She said and I released a relieved breath of air.
“But you should do better to treat your wife,”
“Excuse me?” I glared at her.
“She’s overworked, especially in her current state. You shouldn’t have her overworking herself, it’s not healthy for the baby,” The breath was knocked right out of me and I almost stumbled. Did I hear right? Or have I gone mad?
“The-The what?” I cleaned my ears, waiting for her to say that again.
“You don’t know?” She raised a surprised brow, a small smile creeping onto her face.
“The Queen is pregnant with your heir. Around 5 weeks from what I can tell. I’ll regularly come to check up on her but until then...” I couldn’t hear her words properly since my mind was still trying to process what she was saying. Pregnant!? Nora, my Nora... was pregnant!
How come she didn’t tell me? Or did she not know either? I’m betting on the latter.
“W-Wait... Say that again,” I instructed, going to sit by Nora’s sleeping figure as a small smile appeared on my face. Holding her hand in mine, I kissed her wedding ring, trying to keep my emotions at bay but that proved to be pretty hard since it’s not always you find out that you’re going to be a father!
“Right... While I’m not here, don’t stress her out, don’t let her overwork herself but that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t exercise since it’s important that she gets enough air and a bit of exercise like walking too. Keep her hydrated, stay away from raw foods but make sure she eats enough too even though she’ll throw up most of it due to the morning sickness,” The lady went to write everything down on a note but I still couldn’t hear her properly over the loud beating of my heart. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited before.
Once she was gone, it was only Nora and I left in the room while I patiently waited for her to open her eyes so that I could tell her the good news.
It felt like an eternity before she finally did.
“What happened?” She whispered with a groan.
“You fainted... I told you not to overwork yourself,” I mumbled, stroking her cheeks. “...It’s not good for the baby,” I added, biting down on my lip as I watched her eyes slowly widen in surprise.
“W-What did you just say?” She whispered out.
“You really didn’t know. You’re pregnant, Nora. With our first baby,” I leaned down to kiss her forehead and pulled away to see her gold eyes welling up with tears.
“Why are you crying?” I whispered.
“I-I’m... pregnant...” I nodded my head and she sniffled. Gently, I wiped her tears away and she held my hand in hers, her other hand going to rest on her abdomen.
“I’m really pregnant?” Once more, I nodded my head.
“Are you sure?” She whispered.
“I’m certain,” I nodded as more tears emerged in her eyes and I did well to wipe them away, holding back my laughs at her beautiful reaction.
“I’m going to be a mum,” I nodded my head, kissing her forehead and moved back to see her smiling up at me brightly. “I’m going to be a good mum,” She said confidently and I laughed, pulling her into my arms as she sat on my lap.
“You’re going to be an amazing mother,” I nodded and she laughed, moving in to kiss me and I didn’t miss a second of hesitation to kiss her back with full force. We’re going to amazing parents.
