What’s the Point?
Part Five: What’s the Point?
While everyone cleaned up the mess on the battlefield, two children from opposite sides sat on the cold wet ground talking.
“Hey,” the human boy said to the immortal girl. She turned to him.
“Hm?” she asked. The boy shrugged at her a bit.
“What are we fighting for?” he asked. The immortal thought about that for a moment. She shrugged at him there.
“I don’t know,” she replied. “Why are we fighting?” The boy shook his head at her.
“Seems dumb doesn’t it?” he asked.
“Yeah!” the girl agreed. Both laughed out loud. Then, the girl stopped and looked right at him.
“You’re yet going to kill me when I least expect it, are you?” Her new friend shook his head at her.
“Nah,” he said. “What would be the point?” The girl thought about that for a moment.
“True,” she replied. Both kids looked out at the battlefield.
“Think it’ll end soon?” the boy asked.
“Who can say?” his friend asked. “Might take years.” The boy looked at her with big eyes.
“Years?!” he asked aloud.
“Seems that way,” the girl replied.
“Wow!” the human mouthed.
“I know,” the immortal said back. Both turned back to the damage. Some from both sides heard the kids’ conversation. They all began to wonder the same thing as well. Something had to be done to end this long ridiculous fight. Lucky for them all, the ending would come in a few seconds.
