Chapter 20

Atticus and I got back to the clearing where we left our clothes and then we shifted back into our human forms. I put my clothes back on and Atticus did the same and he said to me.

"Did you enjoy your run?"

"I loved it and I got to spend it with my second chance mate. Amelia was right, things did get better."

I spoke with a grin on my face as I tied my hair into a ponytail.

"Amelia? as in the author of 'Second Chance Mates'?"

"That's right, are you a fan of hers?" I asked with a smirk.

"I've read her book, someone recommended it to me when I was feeling heartbroken from the rejection."

"Hehe, Amelia's book has that effect on everyone including the rogues my dad captured when he was still the Alpha. According to my mother, Amelia's book gave them hope of looking for their second chance mates and they started acting nice towards the other werewolves."

Atticus looked surprised and then he said to me.

"Heh, I wished my brother did the same thing to the rogues instead of leaving them down there in the dungeons to die down there. We captured a rogue she-wolf and she had pups with her but..."

Atticus looked away from me and I knew what he meant.

"Xander seriously needs to change his ways."

"Try telling him that, he's the Alpha around here, not me."

"Well, I wouldn't exactly say that. You're my mate and if I can convince my parents, you can be the Alpha and I might be co-Alpha."

"You don't want to become a Luna?" Atticus asked with a smirk.

"Not a chance, besides, I'm way too strong to be a Luna and besides, my mother can tell that I'm stronger than a Luna."

Atticus smirked when I told him this and then he asked me.

"Do you really think I have what it takes to lead a pack? I mean, Xander and my father are always telling me that I'm too soft and I need to be more like them."

"Don't be ridiculous, being a good Alpha isn't always about being ruthless or cruel, that would make you a bad Alpha. A good leader shows respect to his or her fellow pack members and being kind to them as well. It's all right to show a little bit of kindness, however, you can still be ruthless unless it's necessary."

Atticus looked at me surprised when I explained this to him and he said to me.

"Wow, who taught you that?"

"My old Alpha and my mother taught me that. My mother is the War Hero, remember? she taught me what it means to be a good leader."

"I can't wait to meet her as long as she doesn't try to kill me the moment I set foot on your territory."

I chuckled when he said this and then we headed back to the packhouse. However, on the way back, I sensed someone following us and then I picked up a rock.

"What are you doing with that?" Atticus asked me.

"It would seem we're being followed, GET OUT HERE RIGHT NOW!!" I yelled before throwing the rock at the spy before he came out of hiding, which behind one of the bushes.

"Maxwell?! what are you doing here and why are you following us?" Atticus asked with a frown.

" reason..." Maxwell lied.

I grabbed him by the collar and I gave him my angry glare.

"Start talking now!!!" I shouted in my Alpha tone.

"Yes ma'am!" He spoke in a scared tone.

", uh...Alpha Xander asked me to keep an eye on you."

"And why is that?" I asked him with a frown.

"I don't know."

"Wrong answer" I told him before I grabbed him by the throat and I squeezed it tightly.

Maxwell struggled to breathe when I held onto his neck tightly and then he confessed.

"All right! all right! Alpha Xander told me to keep an eye on you because he wants you to be his new Luna and he wants to make sure no one in his pack is your mate!"

"I knew it!!" Atticus shouted angrily. "I knew he was up to his old tricks again!"

"Atticus, calm down," I told him before I placed my hand on his shoulder.

Atticus growled before he leaned to my neck and he sniffed it before calming down.

"It's fine, now spill it!" I shouted at Maxwell who was staring at me with fear in his eyes.

"Why does Xander want me to be his new Luna?! he's already one!"

"I don't know and that's the honest truth!"

"Tch, my guess is he probably got sick and tired of Isabelle. To be honest, I have noticed she's been trying to get his attention since he's been ignoring her. Not to mention, she's been giving you the evils since you got here," Atticus explained to me.

"Do you know something, I have to agree with you there."

I told him before I dropped Maxwell onto the ground with a thud. He coughed to get his breath back and then Atticus spoke up.

"If my idiot brother thinks he can steal my second chance mate, then he better think again. I am not gonna let him steal something from me again."

Atticus told me before he stormed off. I grabbed the back of Maxwell's shirt and I followed after him.

"Atticus! don't you do anything stupid!!"

I shouted him while dragging the back of Maxwell's shirt to make sure that he doesn't go running off.

"Maxwell? are you there?" I mindlinked him but, he had gone all silent for some reason.

'That's strange, Maxwell is has been reporting me to see what Serena was doing with my brother after their little run and now he's quiet. What happened?'

I asked myself as I sat in my office while working on some paperwork. However, Isabelle was pestering me again and she sat on my lap and it was distracting. Why on earth did I chose her to be my Luna? I thought she was pretty at first but, I found out at the last second she was only aiming for the Luna position.

"Hey Babe...why don't you take a little break and spend some time with me."

"Not now, Isabelle, I'm busy."

I told her as I shoved her off my lap. Isabelle looked shocked and angry when I did this and then she said to me.

"You know what? ever since that little she-Alpha arrived here, you've been acting differently all of a sudden."

"So what? at least she's got proper manners and she takes her position seriously unlike you."

Isabelle growled when I told her this until my office door was slammed opened by my idiot brother, Atticus.

"XANDER!!" He yelled angrily.

"Atticus, what do you want and why did you storm in here like that?"

Atticus didn't say anything until he rushed at me and then he pinned against the wall and his wolf came out.

"I am going to kill you, Xander!!"

"Atticus what has gotten into you?!"

"You're planning to steal my mate again and I will not allow that!"

"What are you talking about?" I lied to him until Serena showed up with Maxwell being dragged by the back of his collar.

"Don't even think about lying to us Xander! Maxwell told us everything," Serena spoke with a smirk.

"What?! Maxwell!!" I yelled at him and he looked at me fearfully.

"I'm sorry sir! she forced it out of me and I couldn't say no! besides, she's really scary when she's mad."

Maxwell told me in scared tone. Serena glared at him and she told him.

"You're damn right I'm mad! if you don't want to see a bloodbath, I suggest you scram right now!!" Serena yelled at him before she released him.

"Yes ma'am!"

Maxwell shouted before he made a run for it. Atticus glared at me and he said to me.

"What the hell is the matter with you!? first you steal my first mate and now you're trying to take my second mate?! No way in hell!!"

"Second chance mate?! you two are...?"

Serena nodded her head and she smirked at me.

"That's right Xander and don't think I haven't noticed that little witch's glares on me the moment I arrived here."

Isabelle growled and she shouted.

"What did you call me?! come over here and say that to my face!!"

Isabelle tried to attack her but, then Serena tackled her onto the ground and she pinned her down. Isabelle looked shocked when she did this and then Serena spoke up.

"Heh, some Luna you turn out to be."

"Get off me!!" Isabelle shouted.

Isabelle struggled to get out of my grip but, I held her in the takedown move that my mother taught me. Xander glared at me and he said to me.

"You've got some nerve picking a fight with us!"

"And you've got some nerve trying to take something that doesn't belong to you," I told him with a frown.

"Oh-ho you'll belong to me all right, Alpha Serena. I never wanted a hussy for a Luna anyway."

"What?!!" Isabelle shouted in a shocked tone.

"You heard me," Xander spoke with a smirk.

"Wow, the truth finally comes out, shocker," I spoke sarcastically.

I released Isabelle and then she ran out of the office in tears. I shook my head and then I looked at Xander.

"Heh, and that's your Luna?" I asked him before Atticus released him.

Xander got his breath back before he stood up from the floor.

"I never asked her to be my Luna, she rejected Atticus and she took the Luna position since my old man was on my case. I made a mistake making her my Luna but, when you came along, I had to have you instead."

Xander spoke with a smirk. Atticus was about to charge at him but, I held him back.

"No, don't, I've got this."

Atticus calmed down and then I looked at Xander.

"All right then, Xander. If you're that determined to have me then why don't we make a little bet."

"A bet?"

"Of course, we'll have a fight this afternoon at the training grounds. Alpha vs Alpha. If I win, I get to leave the pack grounds and you can kiss goodbye to your alliance and your brother comes back with me to the Silvermoon pack to be their Alpha but, if you win-"

"I get to keep you and you'll become my mate and Luna. Plus, Atticus will be rejected once again and we'll merge our packs together. Sounds like a little bet to you?"

Atticus shook his head for a no at me but, I wasn't listening since I'll be the winner anyway.

"All right, fair enough, you've got yourself a bet."

I told him before we shook hands. Atticus and I left his office afterwards and then he said to me.

"Are you crazy?! do you have any idea who you're dealing with?!"

"You got that question wrong, does your brother know who he's dealing with?"

"She's right," Abigail spoke up after coming out of the shadows.

"Our Alpha is stronger than you think."

"What do you mean by that?" Atticus asked her.

"You'll need to watch the fight and you'll see why some people fear our Alpha and the previous Luna of the Silvermoon pack."
