Chapter 5

Serena

The next day, I woke up with a smile on my face and Aoi was also feeling happy today since we slept in a comfortable bed last night and not on a rough floor in a cabin or in a dungeon for that matter. I got out of bed and then I spotted a change of clothes.

I put on a black and white jumper (the top part was black and the bottom was white), grey trousers and my old canvas shoes. I tied my hair in a ponytail before smelling the scent of bacon. I smiled and then I went into the kitchen I saw Ellie humming away making breakfast.

“Morning Serena.”

“Morning, Ellie, thanks for the clothes.

“You’re welcome, a friend of mine from the hunter’s guild gave them to me. She told me her sister was getting too big for them so she thought you’d like them.”

“Well, tell her I said thanks,” I told her before sitting down at the table.

“Here you go, I made a big breakfast. Bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, pancakes and toast.”

“Thank you.”

I spoke with a grin on my face before tucking into the food. Ellie gave me a drink of juice while she had porridge with some fruit and honey in it.

“How come you’re not having a grilled breakfast?” I asked her before taking a bite of my toast.

“Because I’m on a diet.”

“Really? but, you look healthy and muscular already.”

“Serena, when you get to my age or when you turn 16, you’ll understand why people like me need to watch what we eat.”

Ellie told me before she ate her porridge.

“Besides, you need to have a bigger breakfast than me anyway. Look at you, you’re already skinny enough as it is and having small portions and scraps of food is not healthy for you. Especially at your age.”

“Good point.”

I spoke with a smile on my face before finished our meal. After Ellie got her pistols and other weapons she was taking, we got into her jeep and she drove me to the Silvermoon pack’s borders.

After a while, we finally reached the boarders. I sniffed the air and I can small patrols nearby. I felt nervous at first and then Ellie placed her hand on my shoulder.

“Don’t worry, you’ll like it here. As long as you behave yourself.”

“I will.”

I spoke with a smile before two of the patrols showed up and then we got out of the jeep. While Ellie was resting against the jeep I was talking to the patrols.

“So you must be the kid that Hunter was telling our Alpha about.”

“I am, my name is Serena.”

“What’s a kid like you doing with a Hunter and where’s your pack?”

“They uh...were killed.”

The two patrols looked at me with shocked expressions and then one of them said to me.

“Oh, I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be, Ellie has been great. She looked after me and she took care of the rogues who were chasing after me.”

“Really?” The pack warrior on the left spoke before glancing at her.

“What can I say? I have a soft spot for kids. But, don’t you dare tell your Alpha that, got it?” Ellie told them with a glare in her eyes.

The pack warriors gulped when they saw that glare in her eyes and I think I heard Aoi whimper in fear.

“She’s scary when she's angry.”

“I know.”

I told her before I told the guards.

“Uh...anyway, what’s your pack like?” I asked them to change the subject.

“It’s cool, Alpha Jackson is one of the kindest Alphas we know.”

“That’s true but, he does have a very bad hatred towards...people like her,” One of the guards told me before glancing at Ellie.

“Why?”

“Because our previous Luna was murdered by a hunter. Ever since then, Alpha Jackson has hated Hunters.”

“I see...”

“Hey Kid, I can’t help but notice, your presence feels very familiar. What rank was your old man?” One of the guards asked me.

“He was a Beta,” I told them with a proud smile on my face.

“Wow, you were the daughter of a Beta? that’s impressive, at least that explains why your presence felt familiar.”

“I know, I hope I get some proper training from the Beta of this pack now that I’ll be joining you.”

“I’m sure you will, pipsqueak.”

“Hey! who are you calling a pipsqueak?!”

I shouted with a frown after teasing me about my height. The guards chuckled at my reaction before Ellie’s phone started ringing.

“Excuse me,” Ellie told us before she answered it.

We listened to her conversation and it sounds like one of her hunter friends is having a bit of trouble. Ellie hung up the phone and then she said to us.

“Sorry guys, I gotta go. Serena, take care of yourself and if that Alpha doesn’t treat you right, come and find me.”

“Thanks, Ellie,” I spoke with a smile on my face.

“What’s going on?”

“An emergency,” Ellie told us before she drove off like a madwoman.

We were surprised when she drove off like that and then one of the guards spoke up.

“*Sighs* thank goodness she’s gone. She was starting to stink the place.”

“I know, the scent of dead wolves was horrible. Being around that Bloodhound made me very uncomfortable.”

I was surprised when they spoke about Ellie like that. I did watch her take down those rogues but, afterwards, she seemed normal. I remembered looking into those eyes, when I stared into them it was almost as if I was facing off a rogue who had lost so much in their life.

My thoughts were interrupted when we heard something coming towards us and then I saw two wolves approach us. The large wolf must be the Alpha, I recognise the shape and the size anywhere. The other one must be the Beta or Delta. I watched the two wolves shift and then they put on some boxer shorts.

“Alpha this is Serena, the girl that hunter brought over.”

“Well, where is she?” The Alpha asked as he looked for Ellie.

“She’s not here, apparently, there was an emergency. She looked angry and worried before driving off like a madwoman,” One of the guards told him.

“I see. Never mind, at least she didn’t come onto our turf,” The Alpha spoke in a disgusted tone.

“Um...” I didn’t know what to say when I saw that annoyed look on his face.

“Are you...are you the Alpha?”

‘Stupid! why did I say that?! of course he’s the Alpha!!’

I shouted in my head.

“I am, my name is Jackson and you are?”

“S-Serena, sir.”

I spoke nervously. I couldn’t help it, this was the first time that I met an Alpha by myself. Alpha Jackson looked at me up and down after noticing the bandages that were peaking out of my sleeves.

“Did that hunter hurt you?”

“No, she didn’t. In fact, she helped me and she brought me here after I spent the night with her.”

Alpha Jackson looked at me with a surprised look on his face.

“Then can you tell me how you got those injuries?”

“It was rogues.”

Alpha Jackson looked angry and I don’t blame him. Rogue wolves have always been a menace and they’re cruel as well.

“You can tell us more when we get back to the packhouse. Come on,” The Beta told me before he and Alpha Jackson shifted.

I watched as the Beta lowered himself so I can climb onto his back. I struggled a little until Alpha Jackson helped me onto his back. I held onto the Beta’s fur as he and the Alpha ran through the woods in their wolf forms. I smiled as the Alpha and Beta ran through the woods and I laughed a little as I felt the wind through my hair.

The Beta glanced over my shoulder and he gave me a wolf grin before he decided to have fun with me. I held onto his fur as he leapt over a log and I laughed afterwards. Alpha Jackson shook his head at him before we got to the Packhouse. I was amazed when I saw the Packhouse and then I got off the Beta’s back.

“That was amazing!”

The Beta and Alpha Jackson turned back into their human forms and then he said to me.

“I’m glad you enjoyed the ride.”

“Until you started showing off,” Alpha Jackson spoke with a smirk.

“I can’t help it, I have a weakness for kids.”

“Thanks for the ride, um...”

“Joshua,” Joshua spoke with a smile as he introduced himself.

“Nice to meet you, Beta Joshua.”

Joshua and Jackson smirked when they noticed how polite I was.

“Anyway, let’s head inside so you can tell me all about yourself, Serena.”

“Okay.”

I spoke with a smile and then we headed into the packhouse. The packhouse had a modern look to it and it was way different compared the packhouse that we used to have in my old pack until it got burned down by the Dark Fate pack.
