Adria: Whispers & Magic

I slump down by a tree as soon I take the turn into the forest and away from that idiot’s and Dan’s sight. The storm clouds are over A now, and it will start raining any second. I can already hear the rain in B.

The forest is scary today. When I was paddling on my way to A earlier, I had felt eyes watching me. I even had a glimpse of someone hiding behind the golden trees. I had the same feeling till I took this turn and crossed the fence.

“Adriaaaaa.........” I hear a strange whisper within the trees. It is loud enough to be heard despite the thunder in the sky.

“Oh, God... Oh, God!!” I get back on my bike and start paddling as fast as I can.

“Adriaaaaaa......” The whisper is louder this time, and I try paddling even faster.
“SHUT UP, SHUT UP!!” I start screaming and crying in panic, but my voice dies down when the thunder cracks over my head.

It starts raining the next second, and raindrops hit me like bullets. Due to crying and rain, I don’t see a piece of rock on the path, and my bike trips over it. I fall hard, and my right leg ends up twisted under the bike. I feel hopeless and start crying silently as I lay down on my back and look up at the storm above.

I probably will die here. I promised Cyril that I will live and will try my best to find our happy ending, but this isn’t it. This is not fair. I have to live. I want to live.

I feel the energy seeping out from within me and feel like my end is approaching. What did I think when I stepped into this forest months ago just because I was curious. Curiosity killed the cat, they say, and I think I fit the saying perfectly.

It takes me another few minutes to realize that it is awfully quiet despite the lightning and storm in the full rage, and I'm not getting wet in the shower rain anymore. I sit up with a jolt. Impossible!

I look around myself and see that water is flowing down at my sides without making me wet. I stretch my hand out of my invisible cocoon and notice the water move away from me. I gradually push the bike from over my leg and stand up. It’s not a serious injury, but it hurts like hell. As I suspected, the water is not touching me at all, and I find it fascinating and scary at the same time. Magic is the word that comes into my mind in an instant.

I daringly look into the trees and notice shapes, I can’t make out who or what they are because of the heavy rain, but I feel their eyes on me. Thanks to my leg, I'm in no shape to paddle to B, and since they've saved me from rain and thunder. I decide to find out what exists in the trees. Strangely, I believe that whoever it is, hasn't hurt me now and won't hurt me later as well. Trusting my instincts, I leave my bike where it is and slowly walk towards the shapes in the trees.

I hardly take eight steps when the figures step out into my vision, and I feel my breath knocked out from within me.

I'm vaguely aware of my invisible cocoon getting wider till three of them are in it. I can’t move, and I can’t think, so I do what comes into my mind first; I turn and start running back towards A.

"You are one of us, Adria Emerson, and we will never hurt you.” Even when I hear this inside my head, I keep running and don’t look back. As soon as I take the turn, the invisible cocoon disappears, and the cold rain engulfs me.
