Emmett opened the door to his home, and was immediately accosted by his mother, Eliza.
"Emmett Darren Walker!" She shouted. "What were you thinking? No warning! Just a note! Where did you go?!"
Emmett hugged her, knowing that she was only mad because she had been afraid. "I'm sorry, Mom. But remember, I'm an adult now."
"Emmett!" Norie cried, running to him and nearly knocking him over with a hug.
"Hey, Norie!" As heavy as his heart felt, he grinned, happy to be home.
She looked up to his shoulder in awe. "Is that...a dragon?"
"Oh, yeah. Kevin, this is my mother, Eliza, and my sister, Norie." He took the blue dragon off of his shoulder to show his family. Kevin fluttered out of his arms and playfully landed on Norie's head. Norie giggled and took him down, petting him.
"He seems to like you," Emmett remarked. She lit up. Behind him, Joseph cleared his throat.
"Emmett, you told me that you were going to tell me what happened."
"Oh. Yeah." Suddenly subdued, Emmett sat down at the kitchen table. "I think you'd better sit down too."
