Henry and I sat in the living room. I made him some coffee and I had Jasmine tea. I turned on the TV and the third episode of American Horror Story season two played. Henry cringed, he'd hide behind me and pull squeamish faces whenever I was watching a horror movie or gory series. He absolutely couldn't stand it. He gets uncomfortable when he sees blood. I switched the channel to some random Chinese drama about a couple who was stuck in a Romeo and Juliet situation. I turned the volume down and turned to Henry beside me, "My friends will be coming to say goodbye to me on Wednesday." I took a sip of my tea and he asked, "All of them?" I nodded my head while I took another sip. "I'm really going to miss them." Henry took my hand and said, "You will get to see them again, silly goose." He ran his hand through my hair and I smiled at him. "I know, but you know how I feel about them. Plus, I get really emotional when I say goodbye." I pouted. "Aw, you shouldn't cry though. You're too pretty." He pinched my right cheek softly. I giggled, "Are you saying that I'm ugly when I cry?" I jokingly asked him and he chuckled again. "I don't know, I've never seen you cry before, so..." He shrugged. "Ah, yes. That's true. I never cried in front of you yet." Two years together, and I never allowed him to see me cry. "Please don't start crying, though." He said before drinking more of his coffee.

I took off my laundry while he watched Big Bang Theory. My favorite character in Big Bang Theory was Sheldon, he always had something to say, he was funny and he's smart. Henry liked Penny the most. She's cool and all, but Sheldon is funnier. I folded my clothes and sorted them out on my bed. I folded some coats, jackets, turtle necks, polonecks and dark colored long sleeved shirts. I heard that it's cold in Germany, so I had to prepare myself. I folded some dark pairs of jeans and placed them into my leopard print suitcase. I know it's not time to pack yet, but I like being prepared for everything. I walked back into the living room. Henry was watching British cricket. I stood next to the sofa where he sat and asked, "How long are we going to stay in Germany? I don't want to pack too many things." Henry wasn't listen to me. "Henry?" I tapped him lightly on the shoulder and he turned his head in my direction. "I'm sorry Irie, I am watching something really interesting now. Can it wait, please?" I nodded, "Sure, Henry." I sighed and went back to my room. Henry could watch cricket all day, I swear. I continued to sort out my clothing and my phone rang. I picked it up, "Good afternoon, Iris Zhong speaking." I held the phone to my ear, "Hey Iris, it's Mia! Just checking in and I'm just so happy for you. Like really, Germany? That's amazing! I have a uncle in Germany. Anyway, I can't believe you're going with Henry. This means he might propose to you!" She sounded really happy for me. I laughed and said, "No, he's not going to propose. It's too soon and I know Henry." I could hear Mia giggling over the phone. "How can you be so sure? I mean, what kind of man decides that he wants to go to the oh-so-romantic Europe with his darling girlfriend and have her all too himself? I'm sure there's more to this." I started blushing, "Mia stop, we're only going to stay there for a little bit, I think, and he's given me no sign that he wants to take things to the next level." "Yeah right, I'm sure he's just being subtle now. He's running away with you." Mia and her ridiculousness. "Sure he is. We'll see, haha." I heard Henry calling me from down stairs. "Love you, butterfly. I have to go now." "Love you too funny bunny, bye!" We ended the call and I went downstairs to Henry.

"Henry, I'm coming!" I ran towards him. "What were asking me earlier" he asked. I stepped closer to him, "I wanted to know how long we will be staying in Germany because I don't want to pack in too many clothes, you know." He put his hands on my shoulders and said, "We'll stay there for two weeks, but we could stay longer there if you happen to like it there. It's your call." We smiled at each other and I leaned in to kiss him, but he stopped me. "Let's save the romance for Germany. Also, the blonde in your hair seems to be fading to black again." My cheeks turned red and I looked down. "Oh hell, I'll have to dye it again." He caressed my hair, "You always looked so beautiful in blonde hair. Reminds me of the first day I met you." He was just so sweet! "It was nice to see you. Thank you for coming over, Henry. I shall redye my hair now. Don't want to be seen like this." I giggled nervously. I can't believe he came over and my hair was already fading back to black. I feel so embarrassed. Henry chuckled, "Irie, you're right. My girl can't go out with me with that unfinished hair, people would stare." I looked down as my cheeks burned red. "I-I will see you, Henry." I walked up to my room slowly. "See you, Iris." Henry left the house and I ran to put my white pashmina over my head, that I got from Katy for my sixteenth birthday. I looked in the mirror of my dressing table. I was tired of redyeing my hair blonde all the time. The struggle of having naturally dark hair. I looked for two dollars in my purse and went to the small Pakistani store that was four blocks away from my house. They sold some traditional clothing, toiletries, candies, fruits, vegetables, popular snacks. I usually only bought hair dye from them. I bought two boxes of blonde hair dye and I ran into Miguel as I crossed the street. He was about to buy himself some cigarettes. "Hey, Germany." He started. "Oh, hey Miguel." He stepped closer to me. "I can't believe you Iris. You're practically choosing Henry over us. It's not like you knew him since kindergarten." I sighed and said, "Miguel, stop it. I'm not going to stay in Germany forever. I'm leaving Friday though, so you have today, tomorrow and the day after that to say goodbye to me. Wednesday, Katy and Jake are going to say goodbye to me. I'd love it if you could make it on Wednesday too. Mia would've come, but she's still in Hawaii for long it seems."

Miguel came closer and started hugging me. "I just don't want you to go there and turn into someone else. It's just upsetting for me to see how Henry has changed you. I just want you to be happy, Iris. You don't even like the nickname "Irie" and he keeps calling you that. You can't let him keep getting away with shit and act like nothing is wrong." I hugged Miguel back and broke the hug. "Dude, everything will be okay. Just trust me on this. I'll go to Germany, come back and we can all hang out again. I promise." I tried to reassure him that things will work out for the better. "Okay, Iris. You win. I'm coming to your house on Wednesday to say goodbye but promise me this... You will take all your alternative outfits with to Germany, wear them with pride and stop caring about other people's opinions, including Henry's. Be who you are. You're the most amazing person on the surface of the world, do you know that?" He smiled at me. He was a beautiful man from this angle, he looked good with his colgate smile, sparkling hazelnut brown eyes and chiseled jawline. His green and blue dreads were neatly tied into a high ponytail. The sun was starting to set, which complimented his flawless bronze skin. I missed hanging out with him. "Hey, Miguel, I could always dye my hair tomorrow. Let's get some ice cream or something. I missed you so much." I admitted. It was never easy for me to express affectionate emotions. I've never been the type of person who was comfortable with opening up about most things regarding my feelings. Miguel smiled wider like a child receiving a Christmas present. "What are we doing standing around for? Let's go get some ice cream and go to the beach after that!" Man, I missed the old days! "Sounds good to me."

Miguel and I bought ourselves ice cream. I went with a strawberry and vanilla flavor. He had the chocolate and fudge lattรฉ flavor. As we were eating our ice cream, we walked to the beach nearby and talked about how much we missed the good old days. We were talking about our beach day together when we celebrated our great test results. We were still in nineth grade at the time. Katy and Mia were swimming together while me and the guys were watching them and pouring our drinks. A big ocean wave rushed over Katy and Mia. Katy lost her swimsuit bra and poor Mia lost her swimsuit undies. It was hilarious! They did the smart thing to exchange swim bras and undies. It worked out well. I tripped over some seaweed and faceplanted in the sand castle that day. Miguel and I laughed as we thought back on all the fun times we had on the beach. We sat on the sand and watched the waves. Miguel looked to me, "I don't know about you, but I'm going in!" He took off his shirt, revealing his lightly toned abs and ran into the water to catch the waves. He stood in the water, "Iris, you coming?!" He called after me. It's like I forgot Henry existed for a minute, I put down the hair dye, stripped down to my bra and panties. I ran in after Miguel and it felt so good to feel the waves carry me once again. I didn't want it to end, though it would've been perfect if all our friends were here with us. I really miss this. I let the waves rush over my body, wetting my hair. I got out of the water and felt goosebumps appear on my upper arms from the wind. Miguel got out after me and we used our t-shirts as towels before putting them back on. "You know Iris, I haven't heard you laugh like this in a while now." I put on my shorts while listening to Miguel, "Yeah, well, today has been fun. Thank you Miguel." I picked up the two small boxes of dye. Miguel offered to go to McDonald's to eat some burgers and have milkshakes. After that, he offered to walk me home, which I gladly accepted. Miguel and I walked to my house. We stood my front lawn, "This is where we go our separate ways, Miss Germany." He jokingly bowed like a gentleman which made me giggle. "See you Wednesday, Miguel." I went inside while Miguel walked home. He live nine blocks away from me.

I went up to my room and placed my hair dye boxes on my dressing table. I checked the time and it was 7:45. My mother wasn't home yet. I took a long shower. I washed off the salt water from my body, I left my hair as it was since I was going to dye it tomorrow anyway, and placed my damp clothes in the washer when I was done. I put on my bunny pajamas which matched my bunny slippers. I put on my CD-player I got for my thirteenth birthday from my mother. I still have it and will always prefer the CD or my father's vinyls instead of mp3 audios. The sound quality is just better in my opinion. A lot of people prefer mp3 and they're honestly missing out. I put in my Marilyn Manson CD and played one of my favorite songs called, 'Mechanical Animals'. I heard the front door slam close from downstairs, it was my mother. My father was most likely coming home around 10pm or 11:30pm for the latest. I would greet her, but when she slams the door like that, I know she's not in the mood for anyone or anything. I hope her day at work wasn't too rough. People can be such assholes with their demands.
