The Story Of Hades

Before his betrayal, Titans ruled the earth. Kronos, king of the world and most vicious Titan of them all, feared a foreseen prophecy that stated his own children would be his downfall just as he overtook his own father, Uranus. Determined to not see this come to pass, he ordered his wife, Rhea, to give the ruthless god each child birthed by her, so he could consume them and thus, stopping the prophecy. Demeter, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon, and Hades were victims of their father’s paranoia. Only on her sixth child, Zeus, Rhea could not condone her husband’s actions no longer. Disguising a rock as a newborn, Kronos swallowed it whole unaware of the trickery.

Rhea then hid Zeus in a cave from Kronos, where he grew up training and preparing for the day where he would have to face his own father. Reaching adulthood, Zeus went to Kronos and forced the Titan to disgorge his siblings out from his stomach. Successful, all five siblings were spat out safely and without harm. Banding together with his kin, the Gods decided the Titans were unworthy to lead the world. This is where the Titanomachy started. A ten-year-long war between the Gods and Titans to see who became victorious. In the end, the gods won, and Kronos, along with most of the Titans, were sent to Tartarus’s depths.

Free from suppression, they quickly dictated who would control what area. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades had the hardest decision of all. Which god would rule the skies, the oceans, and the underworld. None knew which was right, and none could come to a clear consensus. Hades believed he should lead them as he was the oldest among all siblings. Zeus contested, stating without him interfering, they would not be in the position they are in. Seeing no other option, they did the only thing they could. They drew lots to see who would get what region. An ill pick from Hade’s left him ownership of the underworld and Zeus King of Olympus and skies. Hade’s story resumes thousands of years later, where the constant belittling and fear from both Olympus and humankind has left him angry and bitter as he cannot fathom the burden of his job no longer.
