I was in a deep slumber, like I was on a vacation in my mind, enjoying the silent solitude of nothingness.
Just me and myself. Thinking about how fucked up my life was at the moment.
I was at Marcus’s penthouse, and I don’t remember how I got here. All I remember is seeing Xanos, like I was seeing him in tunnel vision. Everything else didn’t matter, only getting to him was my priority, but now that I was coming back to my senses, I realized my mistake. I basically told Xanos that I wanted him without saying a fucking word. Another win for the day, and another reason for Marcus to forbid me from leaving his sight, but I wasn’t going to be put on a leash.
I was going to make my own decisions whether he liked it or not. I loved my Wolfie, but now, there was another factor at play.
It was Xanos.
I didn’t know what to make of it. I felt the same feelings for him that I had for Marcus, and it was only growing as more time went on.
Marcus’s scent was everywhere, which made my sleep that much more comfortable. Just being near him made everything better. Mentally and physically. Like an instant cure to my anxiety, which begs the question: why was I still so scared to make the move in if being with him was this good? Was it because I wanted Xanos too? Was it my subconscious creating the tension and hesitation, because if I am marked by Marcus, it will cause me to lose Xanos?
The thought of loosing just one of them frightened me.
I could feel the soft linens that cocooned my body. He wasn’t in the room; he was far away. Maybe in his office by the sounds of it.
How could I hear him so far away?
The penthouse alone was practically an entire floor on the building, but it was like I could hear the slightest pin drop from multiple rooms away.
I could hear Marcus’s voice, it sounded like he was trying not to be loud, or maybe it was because I was in the other room and he didn’t want me to overhear the conversation he was having with Christian.
Little did he know, I could hear every fucking word.
“What do you mean she just walked in the building?!!” Marcus roared.
“I don’t know, I had no idea, our guy that we sent to follow her couldn’t gain to the building once she entered…I don’t know what happened.”
“I’m going to kill him; I’m going to FUCKING KILL HIM!”
“She broke my hand Marcus.”
“She broke my fucking hand, and with ease.”
“Did anyone see?”
“I’m not sure, but you need to claim her NOW, this has gone all long enough, we need to focus on business and everything else. James is gaining more territory in the city, and to top it off, Xanos may make a move on Hiro soon, with or without you. Your pack needs your now more then ever.”
“I promised her a week and she still has a couple days left.”
“So, what Marcus?! She was literally on her knees in front of...- “
“Don’t fucking say the next words….” There was a brief silence, then I could hear both men scuffling.
Christian’s voice was rasped, possibly from his throat being squeezed, “Her mate pull is strong, look at you. You need to mark her. You’re losing control Marcus...”
There was another short pause. I almost bolted up from my bed, but I was in such a slumber, I couldn’t move a muscle.
“YOU DON’T THINK I KNOW THAT?!” Marcus growled.
“I’m surprised you haven’t done it already.” Christian gasped.
“Hm.” Marcus’s voice deepened, and his footsteps paced the room. Maybe he was thinking, or maybe he was debating what he should do.
“Is it because you haven’t told her yet?”
Marcus sighed heavily, “I don’t know…I feel like I owe her the time.”
“What happened was out of your control. It was so many years ago. It’s all in the past now.”
“I was in COMPLETE control. Don’t get confused about it. We all knew what we were doing.”
“Just promise me that you will finish this soon, Xanos is getting closer to her, and it looks like, she is bound to him, whether you like it or not.”
“One thing still confuses me though.”
“And what’s that?”
“I wonder why he didn’t take her when she showed up today. Was it to show her that he wasn’t a monster that he is? Was it to show her that he wouldn’t force her into it and that she is the only one to realize her pull towards him? Is this all a game to him?!”
“Maybe he feels the same remorse?”
“Give me a break Christian, Xanos feels nothing. I’ve known him my whole life.”
“You can’t leave her by herself, not anymore, one wolf isn’t enough protection. What if Xanos changes his mind and takes her forcefully?”
“I would do it myself, but she is so damn stubborn… and independent…She won’t want me following her every step of the way…I want Xavier and at least ten or more of my best men to be with her at all times. I’ll explain it to her when she wakes up. She’s insistent on going to her brothers meeting, I would rather her be locked away in my penthouse, but I have to tread carefully until tomorrow.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, what is tomorrow?”
“I’ll tell her the truth.”
Christian paused briefly, “Oh…I see.”
“She will understand, well, I hope she does. NO… She has to understand. All three of us our bound together and only one of us will get her.”
“What if the pull continues after you mark her?”
“IMPOSSIBLE.” Marcus growled.
“It’s happened before.”
“I’ll have to fucking kill him then.”
“Just stay positive, it’s a rarity, but a possibility. Just keep your options open if that is the case.” Christian said.
“I would DIE for her.” Marcus slammed something against a table, possibly an office desk, or maybe it was a drink. I could only hear their conversation, and I was blind to their movements.
“I know, that’s why you need to mark her sooner then later.”
“I will… Tomorrow, after we clear the air with everything.”
“Don’t worry, she will understand, she loves you.”
I could hear Marcus’s voice drop as he walked into living room, “She will still be angry… that,” He breathed in heavily, “I can ASSURE you.”
