“Hey you! Late night call, eh? Who are your new friends?” Kendra stood in the doorway, looking curiously over my shoulder at the entourage of men following me.
“Long story.” I waltzed in the apartment and threw my bag to the floor. I was exhausted and all I wanted to do was vent my frustrations.
“Stay.” I looked to Xavier who looked like he was having a rough time accepting the fact that he had to follow me all night.
He grunted and folded his arms, looking to me with menacing eyes. I could tell this was the last place he wanted to be.
“Good boy.” I winked before slamming the door in his face.
I could hear his loud footsteps and growls from the other side.
“I guess they will have to stay in the hallway for the night.” I rolled my eyes as I turned to Kendra. She looked like she was literally in the middle of painting. She wore a white shirt with denim overalls that had small splashes of coloured paint. Her hair was in a lose top knot bun to keep the strands of hair out of her face. She was messy with paint, but she suited the look.
She looked adorable.
“Wow, what the hell was that?” She crossed her arms as she continued looking at the door. Her eyebrows raised with concern as she looked back to me.
“Marcus thought it was a good idea to send them to protect me, or maybe… I don’t know anymore.” Was Derek’s comment really getting to me now? Was I re-thinking the whole protection idea now? What was he really protecting me or preventing me from going to Xanos? The idea was starting to make me sick.
“That’s a first for me.” She chuckled, “Want a drink?”
“How much do you have?” I arced my eyebrow as I looked to the bottle she was holding.
“Whole bottle of Johnnie Walker?” She lifted the bottle and playfully smiled.
I laughed loudly, “You got to be kidding me, my favourite.”
The night was short but sweet. It was so nice to have girl time and just chat about nothing.
“So, you’re telling me your not only going to mate with Marcus, but now his sexy older brother is in the mix?!”
“Fuck you, when you say it like that it sounds so weird.” I laughed as I took another sip of my drink.
I was drinking the Johnnie walker straight on ice, and it felt so damn nice to let loose. The more I sipped, the more stress that evaporated from my mind.
“I’m envious if you want to know the truth.” She smiled as she refilled her drink.
At this point the bottle was three quarters finished, and we were on the floor by the mounting number of painted canvases that she was putting into her exhibit next week.
“Trust me, its more complicated than that.” I sighed heavily as I swirled my drink in my hand.
“You think you can do a threesome? You think they will want to see each other… naked?” She hiccupped loudly.
I looked to her with raised eyebrows, then suddenly, we both burst out laughing.
“That’s my middle name.” She took another sip of her drink, finishing the last of the dark contents in the glass, “Time for more.” She started pouring more into her cup as I began thinking of her idiotic comment.
To be honest, I was intrigued with the thought.
The two Alpha brothers that hated each other, doing a threesome? Was it possible, or was I just being a drunken horny bigot?
“You know, whatever happens, I hope we don’t loose this.” I finished the last of my drink and placed it to the floor.
I brought my arms across my legs as I looked to Kendra, innocently sipping on her drink as she examined her paintings.
“What do you mean?” She asked.
“Why would you say that?” She looked back to me with concern.
“I don’t know, I feel like once I’m mark, everything will change. I just hope…- “
“Just hope what Hunter?”
“I don’t want to lose myself. I don’t want to lose my independence and who I am.”
“You won’t.” Kendra was drunk, but she managed to balance herself well enough to reach in for a hug.
“You don’t know that…” I embraced her and held her in my arms for a few seconds before she crawled back to where she was sitting.
“You have to have faith in Marcus. He loves you; he wouldn’t change you; he wouldn’t make you a prisoner and take away your independence.”
“Nothing is guaranteed in life Kendra, trust me, I know from personal experience.”
“I’m telling him everything tomorrow, and after I do, he said was going to mark me, and I have a feeling he’s not giving me a choice.”
“Don’t say that! You don’t know that.”
“Exactly, I don’t know that.”
“Do you trust him?”
“I don’t trust anyone; I don’t even think I can trust my brother right now...”
“Do you love Marcus?”
“You need to trust each other for this to be a healthy relationship.”
I sighed heavily as I finished the rest of my drink, “Your right, I gotta let my insecurities go, it’s the only way this will work.”
“Cheers to that.” She poured the rest of the bottle into both of our cups, then held hers up.
“Cheers to love.” I put my cup to hers, “And to freedom.”
We both brought our cups to our mouth and gulped the rest of the bitter alcohol down. I was surprised I was able to finish as much as I did, considering I was a light weight when it came to drinking. I was tipsy, but not as much as Kendra looked. Her eyes looked heavy as swayed back and forth. It was comical, but I had to cut her off.
“Time for bed drunkie.” I got to my feet and put my hand out to help her up. She grabbed on tightly, but her legs were not working at all, I was practically lifting her completely off the ground by myself.
“Sor-ry.” She stuttered.
She tipped forward like a bowling pin, almost crashing to the floor. Thankfully, my reflexes were fast enough to catch her right before she hit the floor. I was surprised I still had my strength considering all the Johnnie Walker I consumed.
“Let me take you to bed.” I even mustered up enough strength to carry her in my arms back to her bedroom.
“Wow, “She hiccupped, “You’re strong.”
I laughed at the irony, “That’s what they tell me.”
