I couldn't believe what Riley had just told me. Apollo refuses to let me shift and communicate with him because he's in a sulk due to the fact that I refuse to accept Riley the rouge as my mate and Luna? How childish is that?
"You're making things up."
"If you don't believe me, then ask one of your pack members. Trust me, I've met a few wolves who turned rogue because of the rejection and some of them ended up losing their wolves," Riley told me with a smirk.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I think I have another class to attend to."
I watched Riley walk away and then Matthew spoke up.
"Hate to say it, but, I told you so."
"What are you talking about?"
"I warned you something like this was going to happen, but, would you listen? no you wouldn't. Riley is right, if you keep pushing her away then your wolf will refuse to let you shift and communicate with him until you change your mind."
I frowned when Matthew said this and then Marcus, my gamma, spoke up.
"Speaking of Riley, did you see the way she fought off those rouges?! that was insane especially that strength of hers. I've never seen a wolf use that before."
"Me neither, but, somehow I get the feeling Riley is not ordinary rogue," Matthew spoke with a small frown.
"What do you mean? you think she's some kind of special wolf or something?" I asked him.
"Maybe, I'm not sure. I'll need to look into this once I get back to the packhouse."
"All right. Send someone to clean this place up," I ordered men as I headed back to the packhouse.
Once I got to my office, I sat down on my chair and I tried to communicate with my wolf but, there was no answer.
"Apollo?" I called out to him.
"Apollo, I know you can hear me. I heard you growling."
"This is ridiculous, you can't ignore me forever. Do you even realise that we were nearly killed when those rogues attacked?" I asked him with a frown.
"Did you even see how amazing our mate was?" Apollo asked me with a glare.
"I did but, so what? I don't see why you're making a big deal out of that rouge," I told him with a frown.
"Hmpf, why do I even bother?" Apollo mumbled before he went silent again.
After classes were over for the day, I headed back to Matthew's place. Along the way, I heard a few whispers from the other pack members and they were talking about how well I fought against the evil rouges. There's even rumours about how the Alpha has weakened so sudden that he needed help.
I walked through the front door and I was greeted by the smell of pizza. I smiled a little before I entered the kitchen to see Matthew taking the pizzas out of the oven.
"Welcome back, Riley. How did classes go today aside from the little rouge incident?"
"They were fine, the teachers were impressed when they saw how talented I was in Art, Chemistry and Language class today. My Language teacher even gave me some advanced work to do as well."
"Really? wow, you Missy are full of surprises. First the whole sneaking and pick pocketing business, then the fight with the evil rouges and now your teachers are impressed with your skills. Is there anything else you want to tell us?"
"Nope," I told him before I took my bag and I went into the living room to work on my Chemistry homework.
I was in the middle of finishing my homework until Matthew came into the living room with the pizzas.
"Here you go, chicken and sweetcorn pizza with drinks of cola."
I told him as I set aside my completed homework before I tucked in my meal.
"Riley, there's something I want to ask you."
"What is it?"
"What pack were you originally from?" Matthew asked me.
"Matthew, I have told you this before, I'm born rouge."
"I know but, what about your parents? do you even know which pack they were from?"
"What's the deal with all these questions?" I asked him with a frown.
"Oh nothing in particular except, the way you fought off those rogues was not normal. So it got me thinking, no ordinary werewolf has that kind of strength unless you're special. Were your parents special werewolves or what?"
"I don't know," I told him with a frown.
That was a lie, my parents and I were special because the pack that they were from is also special as well. You could say that's another reason why my mother always told to never take the risk of revealing my wolf or who I was related to because it would have spelled troubled.
"Are you sure?" Matthew asked me.
"Yes, my parents died when I was baby so another rouge looked after me for a while until I was able to fend for myself," I lied once again.
"I see, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked you that now."
"It's fine, even I don't know why I have this insane strength," I lied again.
Riley is good at hiding her emotions but, even my wolf and I can tell that she's lying. We know there's something off about her and she has yet to reveal her wolf as well.
"She's hiding something."
"I know, but, luckily, I know a way to find out her true identity."
After we had dinner, Riley was cleaning up the dishes while I snuck up behind her and then I plucked a bit of her hair.
"Ouch! hey! what did you do that for?!" Riley shouted with a frown.
"Sorry, you had something stuck in your hair."
"Well, thanks, I think..." Riley grumbled before I left the room.
I looked at the piece of her hair before I placed it in a small plastic bag. I put on my hoodie before I told Riley that I was heading out to meet up with Roman. I mind linked Roman and I told him to meet me at the science department where we can learn more about Riley heritage.
Once I got to the hospital, Roman was standing outside of the hospital and then he said to me.
"You made it, did you get a piece of her DNA?"
"Right here," I told him before showing him the little bit of hair to him.
We went into the hospital and we met up with Lucy, who is a nurse and a researcher.
"Hello, Lucy," I greeted her with a smile.
"Hello Alpha, Beta, what can I do for you?" Lucy asked us with a smile.
"Well, we have this she-wolf who is staying with us. She's also the one who pick pocketed me. She's also a born rouge too. We also had a rouge invasion today and Riley was able to fight them off with no problems and she had this insane strength that no werewolf is able to have unless there's something off about them," Roman told Lucy about Riley.
"She claims that she doesn't know who her parents are aside from the fact that they're dead but..." I trailed.
"You two have a suspicion that Riley is lying to you and you want me to find out who she is, huh?" Lucy asked us before we nodded our heads.
"That's right, here, I managed to get this from her. I figured it would come in handy with your research on her," I gave Lucy the piece of hair and then she looked at it.
"I'm not going to lie, it's going to be hard to find out more about her heritage since she's born rouge but, I'll see what I can do. I will let you know once I find out something about her."
"Thanks Lucy," I spoke with a smile before we left her office.
Once the Beta and Alpha were gone, I sensed someone nearby. I stood up from my seat and I pulled back the curtain and opened the window.
"Get in here," I told Riley as she climbed through the window.
"Honestly, what are you playing at? you can't break into pack buildings like you usually do. What if someone had caught you like the Alpha or Beta?"
"Relax, even you should know that I've dealt with people like them before."
Riley spoke with a grin before we hugged each other tightly.
"Oh man, it's good to see you again, little Lucy," Riley teased me with that nickname.
"Oy, don't call me that, I'm not little anymore. Anyway, you were lucky that Alpha Roman and Beta Matthew didn't catch you. What are you doing in here?"
"Getting rid of the evidence that's what. Matthew took me by surprise when he took a piece of my hair. I knew he was up to something so I had to follow him and it's a good thing I did," Riley told me before she took the small packet that contained her DNA.
"Riley, stop worrying. I would have gotten rid of it anyway. I promised your mother that I wouldn't say anything, didn't I?" I asked her with a smile.
The reason how I know Riley is because we were childhood friends once. I was a lone rogue until I met Riley and her mother. We wandered from place to place until I decided to join a pack. It was heartbreaking to say goodbye to my old friend but, we managed to keep in touch every now and again. Her mother also made me promise to never tell anyone about their destroyed pack and their heritage as well since it could cause problems for her.
"I know but, you can't be too careful with pack members nowadays, no offence."
"None taken. Now get out of here before someone realises that you're here."
"But, what are you going to tell Roman and Matthew? If they find out that you got rid of the evidence, you're in big trouble."
"Don't worry, I'll just tell them that I couldn't find anything besides, there's nothing to link you to your heritage anyway since no one knew what happened to your mother after the rouge attack. You've got nothing to worry about."
"I just hope you're right. Thanks Lucy, I owe you one."
"You do, buy me dinner the next time I'm in town."
"Sure thing," Riley spoke with a grin.
She was about to leave through the window again but, I stopped her.
"Wait, take the stairs and use the back exit. It's safer and no one will see you."
"All right, thanks."
Riley ruffled my hair before leaving the room. I shook my head at her and I thought to myself.
'She hasn't changed one bit.'
