Chapter 3

I was in my office working on some paperwork until Matthew told me about a girl stealing from him. I had a laugh at first until he told me that she had no scent. I ordered him and the other warriors to find her and bring her here since there's a chance she might be a rogue. Just thinking about them makes me angry especially, since the attacks have increased recently.

"Uh, Alpha..." One of the warriors spoke as he came into my office.

"What is it? shouldn't you be on patrol?"

"We were and we've got some good news and some bad news."

"What is it?" I asked him.

"We spotted the girl without the scent and she was trying to escape from the pack grounds."

"And you captured her right?"

"Uh...that's the bad news," The warrior spoke nervously. "We were about to capture her but, she made a run for it and we tried to get her but, she gave us the slip."

"What?!!" I shouted in anger. "How did she give you the slip?!"

"We're sorry!! we tried to chase after her but then, her scent disappeared. We searched high and low for her but, we couldn't find her or her scent."

I growled in frustration when he told me this and then I told him.

"Get out of my office! now!!"

"Yes, Alpha!"

The warrior spoke nervously before he left the office in a hurry. Matthew came in and he looked shocked when he saw the warrior running for his life.

"Whoa, what was that about?"

"That rogue you told me about, the same brat who robbed from you, she gave my best warriors who were on patrol the slip. Apparently, they lost her scent by the time she got passed the pack borders."

"I see..." Matthew mumbled.

"Matthew is there something you want to tell me about that rogue?"

"Nothing except, when I spoke to her, my wolf felt a strange presence from her."

"What does that mean?"

"I don't know, but, when I chased after her, she was fast and agile. I didn't see her wolf but, my gut is telling me that she might be a higher rank wolf."

"She could be related to an Alpha or a Beta but, I'm not one per cent sure."

"If that's the case then she could be more dangerous than I thought."

"You say that about all of the rogues who come here," Matthew mumbled.

"What was that?"

"Nothing, please excuse me, I've got training to do."

Matthew told me before leaving the office. I sighed before sitting back down on my chair and then my wolf, Apollo, spoke up.

"You know that not all rogues are evil right?"

"Shut up, of course, all rogues are evil. They nearly killed my mother when they raided our pack or did you forget about that?"

"Of course I haven't but, hasn't it occurred to you that our mate could be a rogue? what will you do then?"

"I don't care, besides, I've already got Lindsey. She's going to be my Luna."

"I don't like her! find our mate or I will never speak to you again."

I felt a shiver travel down my spine as I walked through the woods to get back to my cabin. I looked around and I mumbled.

"Must be my imagination."

I got back to the abandoned cabin but, when I got there, I smelled something off. I frowned a little and then I cautiously approached the door before I slowly opened it. I looked around and I can tell someone had been here. I could smell blood and it also looks like someone had gone through the first aid kit. I spotted some bandages that had been taken out of the box and then I looked around.

"Hello? is anyone here?" I called out as I picked up the baseball bat that I placed near the fireplace.

I looked around and then I heard a thud from the kitchen. I frowned a little before I headed in there and then I smelled fresh blood nearby. I glanced at the cupboard and then I opened it with my bat at the ready. I was ready to strike until someone shouted.

"Ahh!! don't hit me please!!"

That voice sounded like a child and that's made me froze on the spot. I was shocked when I saw her. She had tears spilling out of her eyes, she was dirty and she had bruises from head to down. I also spotted a silver collar with a broken chain which tells me she must have broken loose from somewhere. I crouched down and I took another look and I noticed that she had bandaged her side.

"Hey sweetie, are you okay?" I asked in a soft tone as I put down the baseball bat.

"P-Please don't hit me...I didn't mean to.."

"Hey, shh,'s okay. Come on out from there. I promise I won't hurt you."

I watched the little girl come out of her hiding spot before she flung her arms around me and crying her eyes out. I hugged her back and I soothed her a little.

"It's okay, you're safe now. Come on, let's take a look at that injury."

I carried her to the couch in the living room and I slowly raised her top to see her side. I was impressed when I saw how well she wrapped her bandage.

"Wow, kid. You took care of your injury really well. But, I'll redress it anyway, just to be safe."

"Thank mommy was...a doctor."

"Was?" I asked as I fixed her bandage and I applied some cream on her cuts.

"Some bad men came and...they hurt my parents...they went to sleep and they never woke up again...they left me alive and they took me to a place where other girls my age were chained up...they forced us to shift into our wolves and chained us up..."

My eyes widen when I heard her tell me this and then I remembered a rumour about evil hunters kidnapping young wolves like her and forcing them to shift to either fight or breed for them.

"Kid, were any of your parents higher ranked?"

"My Daddy was...Beta ranked...and Mommy was the pack doctor..."

"I see, how did you escape?" I asked her after I finished patching her up.

"My chain was getting rusty and...the men forgot to...knock me out wolf was able to chew throw the chain and then...we made a run for it."

"How did you get those injuries?"

"The bad men saw me escaping and they fired something at stung a lot and then...I found this place to hide...I'm sorry if I went through your stuff...I didn't know anybody was living here..."

"Hey, it's okay. You were badly hurt and besides, I only use that first aid kit for emergencies anyway."

The little girl smiled at me and then I asked her.

"I'm Riley, what's your name?"

"Well Millie, let me see if I can get this off of your neck."

Millie nodded her head before I checked to see how those men put on her in the first place. However, when my fingertips touched it, it stung.

"Ouch! bloody hell, it's silver!"

"Is that bad?"

"I'm afraid so, no wonder they didn't want you guys escaping."

I told her before I grabbed some leather gloves and then I grabbed a lockpick before I turned her head to the side.

"Okay, this is gonna sting your neck a little."

I gave the collar a tug before I started to pick the lock on the collar. Eventually, the collar came off with a click and then it fell and landed onto the floor.

"There you go, free at last."

Millie looked relieved when I helped her get that awful collar off.

"Thank you so much, Riley!"

"You're welcome, now let's add some cream to that burn on your neck."

I gently rubbed some cream onto her burnt skin from the silver collar.

"There you go, they'r eonly minor burns but, it looks like you might have some scarring."

"Hey don't worry, if it makes you feel any better those scars are proof that you're a survivor."

Millie smiled when I told her this and then I told her.

"What pack are you from?"

"Blood Moon pack."

"Oh geez, Blood Moon pack is back in Alaska. You're miles and miles away from home," I told her and then she lowered her head sadly.

"I'll never see my friends and family again..."

Millie started sobbing and then I wrapped my arm around her shoulders.

"Hey, don't cry. Things will get better. Listen, tomorrow I'm dropping you off to the nearest pack border so they can take care of you."

"What about you? can't you look after me?"

"I'm sorry, Millie. I wish could but, I don't have a stable home or enough food for both of us. Look, you're gonna need someone to take proper care of you."

"All right..."

"Come on, let's get some food in our bellies and get some sleep, kay?"

Millie nodded her head and then I got dinner ready. Tonight, we're having some ready-made noodles that you had hot water to and a drink of water. Millie was resting on the couch and I gave her my only sleeping bag before I gave her the warm food.

"Thank you."

"Careful, it's hot."

Millie nodded her head before I gave her a plastic fork. She tucked into the food and she smiled when she tasted it.

"This is good!"

"I'm glad you like it. Hopefully, it's better than the rubbish they gave you when you were...well, you know."

Millie nodded her head before we finished our meal. I tucked Millie into bed and I stayed next to her until she fell asleep. I checked the fire before I grabbed the fluffy blanket from my rucksack before lying down on the floor.
