Chapter 4

I woke up the next day with a stiff back and a sore neck since I let Millie sleep on the couch. I sat up and I stretched a little before I looked at Millie. She was still sleeping which gave me some time to make breakfast. I checked the bread that I had stored in the plastic box and I took two slices out before I placed them next to the fire to toast them.

I looked outside and it was raining outside today. It gave me the perfect time to sneak Millie into one of the nearby packs but, the only that's closet from here is the Dawnguard pack. I'd rather not go back there since I'm still a wanted rogue after yesterday's incident but, I have to do what's best for Millie, even if that means taking a huge risk to go back there.

Once the toast was ready, I placed them on a plastic plate before I woke up Millie.

"Millie, wake up."

Millie groaned a little before she sat up and stretched.

"Hey sleepyhead, how are you feeling?"

"Much better, thank you."

"Here you go, I've made some toast."

Millie smiled and then she took a bite. Millie looked out of the window and she said to me.

"It's raining..."

"I know, once you've got some food in your belly, I'm gonna drop you off at the Dawnguard pack border."

"But, their Alpha hates rogues."

"I know but, I doubt he'd hurt a little girl."

Millie saw my point and she nodded her head. I rummaged through my rucksack to see if there was a spare hat or something to keep her warm and dry from the rain instead of those bloody and torn clothes she's wearing.

"Here put this on. It's a little big but, at least it'll keep you warm and dry."

I told her as I handed over a jacket and one of my old beanies. Millie puts them on and she smiled.

"Thank you, I feel much warmer now."

"Good. Now then, if I'm right, if we head to the Dawnguard pack now while it's raining, the pack patrols will have a hard time picking up one's scent so, this will give me the chance to get in and out of the pack easily."

"Will you be all right?"

"Of course, I'm a professional escape artist. Plus, the rain can hide my scent really easily."

Once I made sure that Millie was nice and warm, we left the cabin. I kept Millie close to me as the rain fell heavily. We got to the pack border and then I looked at Millie and I told her.

"Okay, Millie. This is far as I can go, you're on your own from here."

"But, what do I tell the pack patrols and the Alpha?"

"Just tell them what you went through and a nice lady helped you to bring you here, kay?"

Millie nodded her head and then she headed into the pack border.

"Hey! who's there?!"

One of the warriors shouted before I made a run for it.

I was in my office working on some paperwork until I got a mindlink from one of my pack warriors.

"Hey boss! we've caught a rogue!"

"Is it that woman from yesterday?"

"No, she's a little girl and it looks like she's been hurt."

My eyes widen when he told me this and then I said to him.

"Bring her in."

I waited for a few minutes and then Beta Matthew came in with the little girl. I was shocked when I saw her appearance. She was soaking wet and she was also wearing a large jacket and for some reason, I could smell a sweet scent from it.

"The patrollers found her near the pack border. There was no one with her."

I looked at the little girl and I asked her.

"What's your name and what happened."

The little girl looked at me nervously and then she asked me.

"You're not gonna hurt me...?"

"Why would I do that?"

"Because...someone told me that you hate rogues."

I was surprised that she knew this and then Matthew spoke up.

"She must have spoken to a fellow rogue, where else would she get this jacket from?"

"Good point."

I looked at the little girl and I asked her again.

"What's your name and why were you on my territory?"

"...I'm sorry but...I had no where else to name is Millie and I was from...the Blood Moon pack."

I was shocked when she told me this because a few weeks ago, we had a report about one of our allied packs from Alaska being invaded and wiped out.

"You're a long way from home, how did you end up here?"

"Bad men came and they took me away from my Mommy and Daddy. They took me to a dark place....I can't remember where but, there were other kids my age who were being held hostage...they gave us some medication to force us to shift into our wolves..."

I was shocked when she told me this before Matthew spoke up.

"No doubt in my mind this has something to do with the hunters. I've heard the rumours but, I didn't think they were true until now."

"How did you escape?"

"My chain on my collar was rusty and I managed to escape. I found this nice lady and she looked after me. She treated my injuries and she gave me some food and she even got rid of that collar, see."

Millie raised her head to show us some small scarring where a silver collar was around her neck.

"Well, she did a good job that's for sure, but, why didn't she stay with you?"

"...I can't tell you..."

"Why not?"

"Because if I speak, you'll hunt her down and hurt her. She's a rogue too."

I looked at Matthew and I mind linked him.

"You thinking what I'm thinking?"

"No doubt in my mind that it's that brat who pickpoekected me."

I looked at Millie and I asked her.

"Look, I promise I won't hurt her. Can you at least tell the place where you stayed and what her name is?"

"You promise you won't hurt her?"

"I promise."

I hate lying to the kid but, I have to do whatever it takes to protect my pack. Millie sighed and she then told me.

"Her name is Riley and she lives in an old cabin not too far from here. Please don't go after her."

"Relax, I promise. Wait here while I send someone to take you to the Orphanage."

Matthew and I left the office and after he finished mindlinking someone from the Orphanage, he looked at me and he asked me.

"What do you intend to do?"

"What do you think? I'm gonna find this rogue and stop her before she tells her buddies about our pack's weaknesses."

"Uh, Alpha, don't you think this rogue could be working alone? I mean the last time I saw her, she was wearing old clothes and she was carrying a rucksack as well. Something tells me she's not working with an evil pack or a rogue pack, what if she's homeless like Millie?"

"I don't care, send as many of your men and bring that she-wolf here and I don't care if you have to drag her by the hair kicking and screaming!"

"Yes, Alpha."

Matthew told me before he left the packhouse. I frowned and I mumbled.

"You can run but, you can't hide, rogue."
