Chapter 6

I stared at the rogue before me and I was shocked when her scent finally hit my nose. She smelled like spiced orange and my wolf loved it. But, I was angry to learn that my mate is a rogue but, my wolf was happy from the way he was wagging his tail.

"Mate! our mate was right under our noses this whole time! I can't wait to see her wolf!"

"Shut up! I don't want anything to do with her!"

I shouted at my wolf before glaring at the rogue.

"If you think I'm gonna welcome you as my Luna with welcome arms, then you're sorely mistaken," I spoke harshly towards her. "I will never accept you as my mate."

"That's fine by me, I never asked for a mate and I don't intend to join a pack since I don't trust them anyway. I've heard the stories about how you Alphas torture and kill rogues anyway."

The rogue spoke with a frown and then Matthew spoke up.

"Now wait a minute, some of those stories are not true."

"Oh really? then let me ask you this; how many rogues have you killed? Did you enjoy killing female rogues including children?"

"Well...we may have run into a few rogues who tried to trespass our borders and might have injured a few of them but-"

"And is it also true that you killed female rogues including their children who were trying to escape from their evil mates or Alphas? has that ever crossed your mind?" The she-wolf asked with a frown.

Matthew didn't know what to say after she asked us this.

" much as I hate to say this but, she's got a good point."

"What?!" I shouted furiously.

"Look, she's your mate and our Luna. I know she's a rogue but, don't you think you should at least give her a chance? If she's supposed to be evil like the ones who tried to attack our pack she would have killed me and left me for dead. Instead, she made sure that my wolf stayed down before making a run for it."

I was shocked when Matthew was taking her side and then I glared at him.

"Who's side are you on?! she's trying to trick you!"

"Ugh, Alphas....they're all the same..." The she-wolf grumbled angrily.

"What was that?"

"You heard me! all you ever think about us is how evil we are and how we're always causing trouble by forming evil packs or killing one of your pack members! not once has it occurred to you that we have a reason for turning rogue in the first place!!"

"Oh really? then let me ask you this? why did you turn rogue?"

"I was born rogue but, that doesn't mean I'm like all the evil ones that you've come across," The she-wolf spoke with a frown.

I growled a little when she told me this.

"How do I know you're not as evil as you say?" I asked her until Matthew spoke up.

"I have a suggestion, why don't we take her back with us and we can keep an eye on her. At least that way, she won't be able to cause trouble."

The she-wolf growled at Matthew and then she told him.

"I thought I told you that I never asked to join a pack."

"I'm not saying that you should join us, all I'm saying is you should stay with us for the night. At least that way, we can keep a sharp eye on you to make sure that you're not as evil as you claim and if you're telling the truth, then we believe you. And it's also my way of apologising for busting into your home."

"It's fine, I wasn't going to be living there for much longer anyway. I never stay in one place after being discovered by a pack. Including one who's a prick!"

I growled when she called me that and I was about to hit her again until Matthew held me back and he said to me.

"Don't! she's just trying to get a rise out of you and besides, you should know by now to never raise your hand to a lady. Except, she's your mate."

"No, she's not! she's a disgusting rogue!"

The she-wolf didn't look fazed when I called her that and then Matthew spoke up.

"You can't call her that!"

"It's fine, I've been called worse," The she-wolf spoke with a smirk.

"Look, I know you don't like this idea but, it's the only way to make sure that she's not like the rogues who attacked our pack from before. If it makes you feel any better, I can keep a sharp eye on her."

"Fine, but one wrong move and it's into the dungeons with her, got it?"

I stood there with my hands still chained together and after a little debate about me, the Alpha finally agreed to let me stay for the night at their pack. As much as I don't like this idea but, it was the only way to make sure that I'm able to get away from my arrogant mate and head to sunny Florida.

"Fine, but one wrong move and it's into the dungeons with her, got it?" The Alpha asked his Beta.

My mate took one more glare at me before he walked away. Aurora whimpered and she said to me.

"Mate hates us..."

"Oh stop your whining, what did you expect? there's no way an arrogant Alpha who thinks all rogues are evil was never going to accept us as his mate and Luna. We might as well, reject him and leave the pack and I don't care if the Beta tries to stop me."

"I know that but, his wolf likes us. What does that tell you?"

"Nothing, well, aside from the fact that his wolf accepts us and he doesn't care if we're rogues but, his human side doesn't like us. As I said, we're going to reject him and that's final."

Aurora whimpered sadly before the Beta came over to me and he unchained me.

"Sorry about my Alpha, he has this huge hatred for rogues."

"Don't all Alphas have a huge hatred for my kind?" I asked him with a frown.

" he's not the only one but, all I'm saying is; you'll get used to him once he's accepted you."

"Not happening!" I yelled angrily which made him flinch in fear.

"Sorry, bad choice of words. Look, all I'm asking is try and put up with him for the night and then tomorrow you can leave if you want."

"Fine, I don't plan on staying with him anyway."

I told the Beta before I picked up my bag and then I followed after the pack warriors and the Beta. As we headed to the pack, the Beta looked at me and he said to me.

"My name is Matthew by the way, what's yours?"

"Riley? isn't that a boy's name?" Matthew asked me.

"My father wanted a son."

" that I think about it, what happened to your parents?"

"They're dead," I told him bluntly.

Matthew looked at me with a shocked look and then he said to me.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be, I never knew my father and I lost my mother a few months ago. I've been fine on my own."

"You make it sound like it's not a big deal."

"When you've lived as a rogue all your life and with no one to look out for you, you only care about yourself and no one else. My mother once told me that you can never trust a pack because they will make your life hell."

Matthew looked shocked when I told him this before he frowned a little.

"Not all packs are like that."

"Oh really? then what about your Alpha? how many rogues as he killed whether they were innocent or evil?"

Matthew didn't know how to respond to that and I smirked at him.

"See my point? your Alpha isn't the only one who has trust issues."

"Okay, okay, I'll say no more about it. Come on, you can crash at my place tonight."

"I'm not bothered as long as I've got someplace to sleep for the night."

I told him before we continued to head into the Dawnguard pack. Once we got there, the pack members were welcoming back their Alpha but, the moment they smelled my scent they gave me the evil glares and harsh comments.

"What's a filthy rogue doing here?"

"I don't know but, I hope the Alpha doesn't let her leave that easily."

"They're horrible."

"They're evil."

Suddenly, someone threw a stone at me and it landed on the side of my head. I looked to see who it was and it was only a kid. No surprise there.

"Get out of here rogue! no one wants you here!"

"Yeah! get outta here!!"

I didn't bother to dodge since I wanted to show the pack members that I wasn't bothered and I also knew that this was coming as well. Suddenly, Matthew growled and shouted.

"That's enough!!"

The pack members stopped throwing things at me and then he told them.

"I know she's a rogue but, she's got a choice to either leave here tomorrow or she can stay here. The last thing that she needs is a hassle from you ! now leave her alone or else!"

The pack members left after Matthew scared them off and then I frowned a little.

"You didn't have to do that. I could have taken it."

"You don't deserve that kind of treatment. You're the Alpha's-"

Matthew closed his mouth when I shouted at him.

"I will never be his Luna or his mate."

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. Poor choice of words."

We got to Matthew's place and he then said to me.

"Welcome to my home. There is a guest room and a bathroom upstairs. You can also borrow my sister's clothes for tomorrow as well. They're just about your size."

I mumbled before I headed upstairs into the guest room. I placed my rucksack onto the bed before I thought to myself.

'The Moon Goddess made a mistake. There's no way I'm becoming the Dawnguard's Luna especially since their Alpha already hates me.'
