Chapter 12 - Library?
Dedicated to oddball, PenumbraMINE, and N.Y.O.B. You make my day whenever I read your comments. Thank you.
“Mom, meet my mate Draco. Draco meet my mom Summer,” Hailey told me as she introduced us. To say I was kind of shocked would have been an understatement, but I understood why Draco could help her out now.
“I knew there was a reason I didn’t char and smoke you when you walked into my room,” Draco told me as he laughed and I scowled. “Just kidding. But, I didn feel as if I had known you forever.”
“I felt the same and couldn’t place why.”
“Do you have any more unmated sisters?” Drago asked, a smirk on his face.
“Only Angel but she’s still a baby, so no,” Zane voiced as he held Angel and scowled at Drago.
“Actually, Daddy, he is my mate,” Angel said as I sucked in a breath. “But, he will have to wait a few months for me to mature-”
“-No, you can’t grow fast. I don’t want my babies to grow up fast, Angel,” I breathed out, a single tear rolling down my face.
“You still have more babies that will be born in three or four months. And, they won’t grow up as the rest of us did,” Angel told me as I looked at her in shock.
I looked at my mates as they ducked their heads. “You knew i was pregnant?” I asked as I blew a breath out and shook my head. “I should have known.” I sat down on a chair, someone had teleported to me, and dropped my head into my hands, wondering if my life could get any stranger. I knew I shouldn’t have tested the fates but they owed me one. Shouldn’t I get a freebie for once? Whether I did or not was the question.
“Are you okay, Mom?” Trace asked as he pulled me into a hug. I nodded and hugged him back.
“Where were we?” Blaine asked as we all laughed.
I looked at Draco, seeing Hailey tucked under his arm. “If you hurt her-”
“-I would never hurt her, but we do need to do our rituals for our mating marks,” he told me as he looked at Hailey and smiled at her lovingly.
“What the hell is a mating mark? Is it like a bite or something?” Blaine asked harshly, his hands clenched into fists.
“Calm,” I told Blaine through our mind-link, teleporting to him to help calm him down by touch.
“A mating mark ritual is a sacred ritual that is precious to us. Our priests say the words and binds our wrists together with a gold cloth. When the cloth is lifted marks appear on our wrists. It’s to show our people their King has found his Queen.” My mouth gaped open when I realized he was the King of his species and my daughter would be his Queen. I was sure my mouth was hanging to the floor but when I looked at my mates their mouths were hanging open, too.
“Uh, well, okay.” I looked at Hailey. “Are you okay with this, Hailey?”
“Yes,” was all I heard her say. Well, okay then. I guess she knew what she was getting into.
“I will need to give you a day to have your dress made. Is one day okay with you?” He asked Hailey. Hailey nodded her head. “I’ll be right back.”
I walked over to Hailey and pulled her into a hug. “Grandma already talked to you, didn’t she?”
It wasn’t really a question but Hailey nodded her head anyway. “Yes, she talked to me. She told me what would happen and made sure I was okay with everything, but I had already made my mind up before she said anything. He’s a good man, Mom.”
“He better not ever cheat on you,” I sternly said as she pulled away from me.
“He will never be able to cheat, Mom, it would kill him where he stood. You need to read up on the dragons”
I gulped at her angry voice, as if I was speaking angry words because he was a dragon and not of those of a mother. “Sorry, Hailey. You know I threatened each of your sister’s mates.” She nodded and glanced away. “I have no problem with him being a dragon - not at all. I wanted to make sure he knew as your mother. But, I do need to read up on dragons and not make assumptions.” I pulled her into another hug as she heaved a big breath of air and nodded her head.
“I have books you can read about us if you wish,” Askook commented, almost startling me.
“Damn it!” I grabbed my chest, pouring on my acting the best I could. “You need to wear a sleigh bells. How can you move so quietly?”
“Great acting skills, but you knew I was there before your body told you, right?” Askook asked and smirked, causing me to laugh.
“Yeah, I knew.” I looked up at him. “And, how the hell did you know I was acting. No one has ever been to pick up if I was acting or not.”
“I’m not sure how I knew,” he told me but the lopsided smile on his face told me differently. “Would you like to read some? I know we need to talk about the problems surrounding us but you have time to read about the mating ritual.” He held out his arm for me to take. I looked around him, my mates already nodding.
“Oh, submissive. I like i…” Askook tried to say as my mates snorted.
I teleported to his head quickly and wrapped my legs around his head, pulling him by his hair and tilting his head back as the rest of the dragons laughed. I kept a steady pressure on his neck and leaned down. “I’m not submissive as much as I was making sure my mates would stay in control when I touched you!” I whisper yelled, wanting everyone to hear what I said. Askook tried to nod his head and I took that as a yes as I flipped down from his head, landing softly on my feet. I took his arm and pulled him in the direction he was taking me to before his stupid ass comment.
“I was only kidding. I’m sorry,” he quietly said as he looked away from me.
I pulled on his arm to stop him. “I was trying to prove a point, I didn’t mean to embarrass you-”
“-Embarrass me? We love to see a woman’s strengths. You showed everyone you could back up what you thought and I like that about you,” he softly told me as I eyed him, making sure he wasn’t joking. I nodded and walked into a room with so many books my mouth fell open. Once again.
“Holy shit, Batman, that’s a lot of books,” I breathed out as I looked around. The library, if you could call the room a library, was five stories tall with tapestries hung on each level. The tapestries must have depicted each dragon King. Their figures were majestic, powerful, caring towards their mates, and fierce. The circular design of the library held books all around each level and books wre hanging from the ceiling above my head. I turned and looked at the last tapestry, noticing it was Draco. He had a sad look on his face that made my heart hurt.
“Why does he look so sad,” I softly asked as I pointed to the tapestry.
“Our parents were killed and he wasn’t sure if he would be able to be a good King without his mate. The tapestry was made last week, so he should be smiling again.”
“Last week? I’m so sorry. I know how it feels to lose your parents and think you can’t do what you need to. I wonder if it was the reason it drew me to all of you.”
Askook didn’t say anything, but he startled me, for real this time, as wings came out of his back and he lifted in the air. He grabbed a book and came back down, his wings folding into his back. I didn’t say anything, not wanting to make him feel uncomfortable. He tilted his head at me in a confusing manner.
“No questions? Wow, I think you are the first non-dragon not to ask about my wings.” He laughed as I smiled. “How did you think I was going to get the book?”
“Uh, magic?” I asked as I blushed at how stupid I sounded. I didn’t know how I thought he was going to the books, I mean, it could have had a pulley system I didn’t know about.
Askook chuckled as he walked over to the table and sat the book down. “I guess it could have been magic. But, magic is more of your department than mine.”
I walked over to the table and looked at the book. I couldn’t read a damn word of mating ritual. I looked up at him and looked back down and was shocked I could read the words. What the hell?
“You’re welcome,” Constantine told me.
“I take it Constantine helped with your ability to read the texts?” Askook asked, a humorous smirk on his face.
I huffed. “Of course,” I said, a chuckle escaping my lips.
“I don’t think I would want my children to be able to read my mind. I think it would drive me crazy.” I nodded my head as Askook stood up. “I’m going to get one of the books I need. Do you mind if I sit down next to you to read?”
“No, I don’t mind at all.” Askook stood up and left as I turned my eyes to the text about the mating ritual. I was very curious about it. I was happy for Hailey. I had never liked her ex-mate, positive he was going to screw up. Again.
Sorry sack of shit.
I read the part of the mating ritual Hailey had told me about. He seriously couldn’t cheat on her, if he did he would die a horrible death. His heart would feel as if it were crushed to pieces.
A/N: Yay! I didn't leave you on a cliff-hanger. Hope you liked.
