Chapter 21 - Evil Personified
A/N: Dedicated to oddball, PenumbraMINE, and N.Y.O.B. I know there will be others soon to thank. If you have added my book and comment I will add you to my dedications. Thanks to everyone reading. And, thanks to the people I mentioned above. You guys rock!
How in the hell did he get inside the caves? Was there an entrance we didn’t know about? Did the dragons know there was another way in? Someone had to be helping him. There was no way he could have come in unless someone was letting him in. I knew my mate wouldn’t make it easy for someone to get into an entrance. My mind shifted to another thought, a thought that chilled me to the bone. Was it even possible?
“Kaley!” Draco’s voice shook me out of my musings. I didn’t even realize he had picked me up and was rocking me. I latched onto him with everything in me, thankful he was here for me.
“Sorry,” I quietly said as I rubbed his arms. “Uh, I need to ask some hard questions.”
“Okay, go ahead,” Draco agreed as hugged me tighter to him.
I opened my mouth and closed it again, positive I looked like a fish out of water. “Uh, is there another way into the caves that we don’t know about?” I finally asked.
“Yes, but it hasn’t been used in centuries.
“Okay, can the Ascended Man take the form of others?” I asked the main question I needed an answer to.
“I’m not sure, Kaley. We can read up on it if that helps,” he told me as I nodded quickly.
“Well, I know what he looks like when he’s not trying to wear your skin.” Draco gasped. “And, he has found a way into the caves and it might be because of the one entrance we didn’t spell. It wasn’t your fault. I know you forgot about it.”
“How about you two go check out the library and we go spell the-” my mom tried to say.
“-No! We all go. Draco and Dagon can help whether they know it or not. We are going to need all the power we can get, so i suggest you, Kaley, and Draco eat some energy bars quickly,” Angel explained as she pointed at my mom, Draco, Dagon, and me.
I teleported all of us energy bars and cokes as Draco led us to the tunnels. I felt as if I was on my way to hell after each level we descended. It was getting drastically cooler and I was afraid we would meet the false god. Just seeing his expression was akin to having my heart ripped out. He was cold, cruel, and calculating. I could see his smug smile as he looked at me and I had a very bad feeling about what it could mean.
I stopped walking and gasped for breath. I was frozen in my place and didn’t want to move. Something was happening to me and it scared me. My family and the dragons circled around me. My mom put her hands on top of my head, seeing everything I was feeling. I wanted to snarl at her to leave me alone, but I knew I was behaving strangely. I would never snarl at my mother.
I was scared and I didn't like it one bit. I could see the false god in my mind and I wanted to scream every time his face would float through the wispy edges of my soul. Was he a soul sucker or just evil personified? I didn't know and that's what scared the living shit out of me.
All of a sudden, Windy and Ares showed up, Sonny and his mate following. I felt the pressure tighten around my head and gasped for breath. It didn’t hurt as much as it felt very uncomfortable. I tried to read their minds to figure out what was wrong with me. I was hardly ever scared, but even if I was I didn’t freeze up as I did before.
“There,” I heard Ares stay before all the pressure in my head vanished and I sank to t the floor. I was still gasping for breath but I wasn’t frightened to my core any longer, no, I was pissed.
Draco picked me up, drawing me closer to his chest as I got my breathing and my anger back into some semblance of control. I nodded my head and sighed. “Yeah, I’m okay. But, what the hell was that?”
“When you followed the woman’s thoughts back to the beginning and you saw him in his true form, he decided it would be a great idea to spell you. To spell you to be frightened. He thought it would keep you from talking or showing us his true form. You did great in telling us,” my mom informed me. “We need to get you to draw him too, okay?” I nodded my head and teleported more energy bars to all of us, cokes following soon after.
I was holding Draco’s coke and eating my energy bar as he carried me through the halls. We were taking it slow so we could get our energy back before spelling the door. I had part of my spell in my mind, but I decided to share the picture of the creep to everyone with us. I knew it would be even more beneficial if we could spell the person and others from entering. It would be stronger if we said the spell out loud. I was going over the spell in my mind, wanting to share it with my family as soon as we got closer. We made it to the entrance and I shared my spell with everyone. They all nodded and Draco set me down on my feet, so that we could hold hands with each other.
To the false god
To the cruel dragon people
To the packs and to the rogues
You are not welcome
And need to stay away
Never to return another day
If you do return
You, false god and witches alike
Will loose one power a day
Never for it to return again
Now that this spell has began
So mote it be
And, blessed be
We clapped our hands one time. I looked at the entrance and could see a light blue, almost hazy, spell lingering around the door. I could tell it had spread to the other side by the light under the huge doors. Boulders started rolling to the entrance from a pile on the left side of the cavern. They rolled until they were blocking the door from top to bottom. I almost laughed when Angel and Constantine dusted off their hands and wiped their brows. I shook my head at them and smiled.
I started walking off, the others following me. I wanted to draw the picture of the guy. Everyone needed to be aware of his face. And, we needed to come up with a code in case he decided to take control of any of the dragons. I didn’t want to see him use Draco’s face ever again. I didn’t want him to use anyone’s face.
I walked into the living room and teleported my pencils and paper to me. I sat down on the floor, using the coffee table as my drawing board. I quickly got to work as everyone visited with each other. I didn’t know how long it took me to draw his face but whenever I was done I heard the dragon’s gasp, causing my head to shoot up and look at them. I looked back down and shuddered myself.
“That-that’s our childhood friend. Are you sure that’s who you saw?” Dagon asked, his eyes begging me to say no.
“It’s who she saw,” Draco answered for me as I nodded my head in confirmation.
“What the hell?” Askook asked as he looked at his brothers.
“We all knew there was something dark about him, within him. Don’t try to tell me any differently. If you remember dad told us to stay away from him. He knew he was all kinds of wrong, he just couldn’t put his finger on as to why. It cost him and our mother’s life. The man who killed them might have not been spelled but he knew it was wrong too,” Draco spat out as I rubbed his hands.
“I remembered how easy it was for him to get us to do his bidding. I never understood why we couldn’t say no. It scared me a lot,” Askook voiced as he shook.
“So, we know who he is..What do we do about it? I don’t want to be spelled again,” Dagon said as he shuddered.
“We spell you against any spells, against any poison, against any weapon,” I confidently said as the dragons looked at me as if I was crazy, their mouths agape.
“What?” Askook asked, his eyes wide, his mouth opening and shutting.
“We protect you,” my mom answered as she smiled at him.
“Okay, when do we start?” Draco asked, a smile on his face. It was nice to see he trusted us and knew we would never break his trust in us.
“Now, we need to know what kind of poisons can harm you,” I answered as I got up off the ground and sat in his lap.
“Uh, Madagascar tree and regular poisons. I don’t think we have any more but we can look it up,” Dagon answered as he bit his lip. I could tell he was shying away from everything but he couldn’t.
I watched as Angel showed up in front of him and put her hand on his face. “Everything will be okay. Can I read your mind to see if you have anything in your subconscious about other poisons your family might have shared with you?” Angel asked out loud as we all gaped at her.
“You have my permission, Angel,” Dagon answered as his face lit up. Angel got quiet. I knew she was sifting through his memories as quick as she could. She didn’t want Dagon to feel uncomfortable.
I knew the minute she had the information from his mind. She moved her shoulder subtlety, not wanting to cause herself or her mate pain. When she was done she stroked his cheek and kissed his nose quickly. “Thank you, Dagon.”
“Uh, another way to kill them is to...
A/N: Yeah, I know...I did it again, but I couldn't think of anything else at the moment, so I left you on another cliffy.
