Chapter 2

"Mama? Where's Daddy?" Eden asked, following her mother down the stairs.

"He's right here baby, but we need to talk first." Amber sighed, crouching to be the same height as her daughter.

"Mama, you're scaring me, what's happening?" Eden whispered, drawing away from Amber.

"When the rouges attacked, your father gave his life to protect the pack. He's dead, Eden." Amber said, looking away from her.

"No! You're lying! He can't be dead!" Eden screamed, tearing away from Amber to race towards where her father's body was.

Amber fell back on her heels, and watched her daughter run. She felt Rayna come up behind her.

"Do you want me to grab her?" Rayna asked, her gaze following Eden.

"No, it's better she realize that he's not coming back. Harsh truth is better than a fake lie she'll create." Amber responded, standing up.

As Amber and Rayna stood waiting, they heard Eden cry out.

They rushed towards her, and found her wailing over her father's body.

"This isn't fair!" Eden screamed, holding onto her father's hand, her stuffed fox forgotten in the dirt.

Amber picked up the fox, Sunni, and walked towards her daughter, resting her hand on her daughter's shoulder.

"Eden, the Elder needs to prepare him for burial, you need to come with me and Rayna." Amber said, lifting her crying daughter up.

"No! I don't want to leave him here, it isn't fair Mama!" Eden cried, burying her face into her mother's shoulder.

"I know baby, I know." Amber comforted, walking towards her room with Rayna behind them.

As Amber comforted her daughter with Rayna's support, the pack Elder, Elder Blackwood, prepared the former's Alpha's body for burial.

"Mama? Does he really have to go?" Eden asked, looking out the window clutching her fox.

"Yes baby, he has another calling from the Goddess now, and we have to support her decisions." Amber explained, hugging her daughter.

"Okay, Mama. I'm still not happy though. I'm going to miss him." Eden said, staring at her father.

"I know, I'm going to miss him too, but we have to go address the pack baby. We can't leave them wondering." Amber said, picking up Eden and carrying her away.

"Kayo, will you gather the pack in the main hall? Eden and I have to get ready." Amber ordered, sensing the Beta nearby.

"Of course, Luna." Kayo responded, rushing off to do what she asked.

"Come here Eden, you and I have to go address the pack now okay? Since Daddy has passed away I'm in charge or leading the pack understand?" Amber asked, staring into Eden's green eyes.

"Yes, Mama." Eden answered, trying to blink away the tears in her eyes.

"Okay, let's go talk to them now." Amber said, pulling Eden behind her.

As Amber led Eden towards the main hall in the pack house, a dark haired man stepped out of a doorway towards them.

"Luna Amber?" the man asked, putting out his hand to stop the she-wolf.

"Do I know you?" Amber sneered, pushing Eden behind her to protect her.

"I'm Alpha Ryder of the Blue Moon Pack, your neighbors to the west." the Alpha answered, offering his hand for a hand shake.

Amber took his hand, and looked him in his dark eyes. "What do you want with me and my daughter?" she asked, gripping his hand tightly.

"Your mate, late Alpha Elijah, told me that if anything were to happen, he wanted me to help lead the pack until Eden was old enough to do so." Ryder said, reaching into his jacket for a piece of paper.

Ruffling through his pockets, Ryder pulled out a piece of paper with Amber's pack symbol on it. Handing the piece of paper to Amber, he stepped away a step to give her space to read the document.

Opening the latter that was sealed with the symbol of the New Moon Pack, he was greeted with a paper of Elijah's writing.

"If anything were to happen to me before the coming of age of my oldest heir, Eden Lowell, I am trysting my oldest friend, Alpha Ryder Channing of the Blue Moon Pack to help my then widow, Luna Amber Florin-Lowell, to run the New Moon Pack."

Reading the message her mate had left behind with his signature and his seal, Amber broke down. Whether she was upset or angry she couldn't tell.

"Did he not trust me to run this pack?" Amber snarled, thrusting the document back at the Alpha standing across from her.

"He did, I think he just wanted to ensure that Eden didn't become leader too soon." Alpha Ryder responded.

"I wouldn't make my daughter do something she wasn't ready for!" Amber screamed, pushing the large man in front of her.

"I didn't make the rules, Amber, and it would do you well to remember that." Ryder growled, become angry from the she-wolf's outburst.

From behind the two wolves, a door creaked open and two older men peered out. One of these men was Elder Blackwood of Elijah's pack, and the other was Elder Hunter of Alpha Ryder's pack.

"Excuse me, Alpha?" Elder Hunter interrupted, sensing the anger of the man in front of him.

"Yes, Elder?" Ryder responded, visibly forcing himself to remain calm talking to one of the most respected Elders in all of the packs.

"We are ready to announce the new set up to the pack, sir." the elder's answered in unison, looking at the upset she-wolf glaring at the man across from her.

"I will not stand for this!" Amber screamed, attempting to lunge at Ryder.

Ryder caught her in the middle of her lunge and threw her backwards. Stalking towards her he crouched over her form on the ground.

"Don't piss me off, Amber. You better remember that you and your daughter are now in my care, and are part of my pack now. So you better start showing your new Alpha some respect."
