The Rogue part 1
I walked towards the pack house smiling to myself and feeling strangely calm.
Usually, even the thought of dating made me sweat bullets, but this felt different. I was almost giddy. Still nervous, but more the good kind of nervous. The butterflies were dancing in my stomach and it made me feel light, like a feather. I took a deep breath and walked up the stairs to the terrace.
There he was.
He immediately rose from his seat when he spotted me. Still with my head tilted down and avoiding eye contact, I stopped a few meters in front of him.
“Alpha” I said and bowed my head lower.
“Jade, it’s so good to see you, and please call me Alaric.” he replied, grinning.
“OK, Alaric. It’s good to see you too”. I said, shyly.
“Please, sit!” he said as he pulled out a chair for me. I sat down and placed my hands on the table. He walked back to his own seat, across from me. The air around us was electrical and my heart was beating fast.
“Do you want to order something? Food, a drink?” he asked sweetly.
“I’d love a cappuccino.” I replied, picking my nails.
“Anything to eat?” he added, tilting his head to the side.
"Maybe some fries, or nachos, whatever you want.” I replied.
He closed his eyes for a minute, before looking back to me. “Marcelo will bring it out to us shortly.” he said, smiling. I couldn’t help but smile back.
“Your smile warms my heart more than the sun ever could” he said. A blush spread across my cheeks, and he leaned back and chuckled. “I’m not usually this cheesy, but it seems I can’t help it around you.” he stated, scratching his neck.
“I don’t mind. It makes you less intimidating” I replied quietly.
“Oh, good! I won’t have to hold back then.” he said as he leaned forward again, beaming at me.
Marcelo came out with our food and drinks. He spread it out on the table in front of us and went back inside without a word.
I took a sip of my cappuccino. It was perfect, just how I liked it and I let out a barely audible moan in delight.
Alaric stiffened and I heard his breath hitch. The smell of his desire enveloped me and made my heart jump.
He closed his eyes and slowly sucked in a breath, trying to reel himself in. “I’m sorry.” he said frowning.
The way he always humbled himself whenever he did something he thought would frighten me, made me feel safe.
He leaned forward and put his elbows on the table, resting his head in his hands.
“Don’t worry about it.” I said, shrugging as I took a few fries and stuffed them in my mouth.
He looked up at me and sighed. We drifted into a comfortable silence. I was starting to feel quite calm around him. Galina was right, he might not be so bad.
We both reached for the fries at the same time and our fingers touched. An electrical surge sparked from my fingers, up my arm and straight in to my heart. I looked up at his face and saw the he’d felt it too. His focus shifted to my eyes and my eyes snapped up and met his.
It felt like a shock wave that woke me from a deep slumber. My tense body instantly relaxed and I felt whole in his presence. I instantly knew. He was my destined mate.
My heart was beating so fast, it almost felt like it was vibrating. I stared into his beautiful blue-gray eyes and he stared right back in mine. I could drown in them.
The emotion became too much and I had to look away. As I turned my head, a joyful smile appeared on my face. I couldn’t help it.
He didn’t say anything, but put his hand on the table, as an invitation. I slowly reached my hand towards his, and as our skin touched, another spark burst through my body. He gently closed his hand around mine and caressed it with his thumb. Slowly, he lifted it to his lips and kissed the back of my hand. His lips were soft and warm and made the butterflies in my stomach go crazy.
I didn’t understand how this was supposedly The bloody Alpha. He was a gentle giant. He was sweet and thoughtful. But was this the true him, or was it all an act.
She was the one. I’d finally confirmed it when our eyes met. My wolf was pining to be nearer to her. So was I, but I wasn’t about to do anything about it. I would let her set the pace.
The thought that she would only be a release for my sexual tension, had completely died. I felt an immense need to please her, to make her happy and feel safe. She would become my everything, I already knew that.
“So… What now?” She asked sheepishly.
I couldn’t help but chuckle. “Whatever you want, kitten.” I replied, beaming.
I slowly lifted my hand up to her face making sure I didn’t spook her. I held it next to her cheek, but didn’t touch her. I wanted her to know that she was the one calling all the shots.
She closed her eyes as she leaned in to my hand. Her skin was soft, like rabbits fur and the contact made my body hum.
I’d never felt anything like it before. It was all-consuming and made me want to suffocate in it.
My neck suddenly straightened as a mind-link established.
“Alaric, Luke requests your presence in the lobby.” I heard Marcelo say in the back of my mind. He knew I did not want to be disturbed, so this had to be extremely important.
“What!?” I snapped back through the link.
“Rogues” he replied. I ended the link and sighed heavily.
“What is it?” Jade asked, concerned.
“Luke needs help with some rogues.” I replied, gritting my teeth in annoyance.
“Oh. Well, you better go then.” she said.
“I don’t want to leave.” I said softly. This was a first for me, wanting to ignore the opportunity to hunt rogues.
“It’s OK, maybe we can meet tomorrow?” she asked, studying me with those enchanting brown doe eyes.
“Yes! Yes, absolutely!” I replied, gently squeezing her hand. We both got up and stood in front of one another. I lifted her hand to my lips and kissed it, while closing my eyes and breathing in her mesmerizing scent.
She took a step back, still holding my hand and looking straight into my eyes.
She took another step and our hands slipped apart. She gave me her gorgeous smile as she turned and walked away.
I stood there, stunned for a minute, basking in the relief and joy I felt in my heart before I turned and jogged into the lobby.
Everyone was gathered around Luke.
“Alaric, thanks for joining us.” Luke said before turning his attention back to the crowd. There was about 20 of us cramped in the room.
“As I was saying, I’ve had several reports of rogue scents around our borders. The full moon is tomorrow and many of our lower-ranked pack members will need to run, so I want everyone here tracking and hunting. We need to keep our pack safe!” he said sternly. He started dividing everyone into groups and assigning them to different areas.
Marcelo and I got the northern part of the border. We patrolled the area all day and long into the dark hours of the night. There were some traces of the rogues, but no solid tracks. We returned to the pack house around 2 am to get some rest, while Luke assigned other wolves to cover for us.
The next day they hadn’t found anything new during our absence, but we were all set on not giving up the search.
Having rogues lurking around was a big threat. Most of the pack, especially the lower ranked, didn’t shift on a regular basis, so it would be extremely hard for them to resist shifting when the moon was full. They would be no match for a frenzied rogue.
My thoughts went to Jade. I had to catch this fucker and keep her safe. We had agreed we would meet today, but we never agreed on when. It would have to wait until later. A few hours searching, then I’d go to her.
When we arrived back at our appointed area, I caught the whiff of a rogue. We set off following the trail, but ended up running in circles for hours, only to end up at the south border. The trail was confusing. The way the rogue was moving didn’t imply it actually was trying to breach the border. It seemed more like it was scouting or something.
I looked up to the sky and realized that time had escaped me. The sun had set and moon was slowly climbing up to its high peak on the sky.
The pack, including Jade, would be forced to shift any minute. I had to make sure she was safe.
I dashed towards the edge of the forest. I already knew her house was by the east border, the opposite side of where the pack usually ran, the mountain in the west.
I had to make a split second decision. If she was with the pack, she would be a lot safer than if she was alone, so I decided to run for her house.
I was rushing through the thick bush, zigzagging between trees when I saw a gorgeous silver wolf trotting around, about 400 meters to my left.
I instantly knew it was her. I slowed my pace to a halt, and studied her graceful form. My wolf wanted to run up and greet her, but I knew she might not recognize me in wolf form. Last thing I wanted to do, was to ruin our progress.
I stayed in the upwind and followed her around at a good distance. I watched as she chased a mouse and fail to catch it.
Suddenly I saw two eyes eyes lurking behind her as the stench of the rogue hit me…
