The Interview room

Jade

Galina grabbed my hands and squeezed them soothingly.

“Don’t panic, I’m coming with you and I'll keep you safe, no matter what.she said, confidently.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. “I know you will. I’m OK. I said, giving her a tight smile.

The three of us started walking towards the pack house. Galina held my hand the whole way.

“I am so grateful for you, Galina” I said shyly, glancing up at her.

She turned around and started walking backwards in front of me, still holding my hand. “And I, you! You're stuck with meshe replied, swaying our joined hands. She winked, and we carried on up the stairs to the main entrance.

Alpha Luke was waiting when we entered. I instantly dropped my head and looked at my shoes.

“Galina, Jade.” he said, stoic.

“Alpha” I replied while keeping my head down.

“Luke, whats going on?” Galina asked, her voice firm and cold. Since she was the beta’s mate, it was tolerated that she called him by his name.

“There was an incident last night that needs sorting out. Jade, you need to come with me.” he replied.

Before I could take a step, Galina stopped me by grabbing my shoulder. “With all due respect, I will not let my friend be punished without a chance to explain herself.” she said, sternly.

He halted, and turned to her. “Of course, it will only be a chat, I promise.”

He led us to the end of the hall, and opened a door to what looked like an interview room. The room was dark gray, with red wood flooring. There were two green chairs with a black table between them.

We walked inside and he guided me to one of the chairs. Galina and Gregory stood by the door, while Luke took a seat in the other chair. My head was still hung low and my shoulders slumped.

“Jade, look at me.” he said while resting his elbows on this knees, leaning towards me. I winced, and glanced towards Galina, silently pleading.

Galina cleared her throat. “Luke, that’s a lot to ask of her. She’ll look at you when she feels safe, be patient with her.” she said.

He turned to her and gave her a slight nod. “Jade, It’s OK. I swear, no one will hurt you.” he said in a calmer, more reassuring voice. I looked at his hands while I picked at my nails. “I have to let him talk to you, but he won't hurt you. We will all be right outside the door.”

“I will stay with Jade.” Galina said.

“He wants to talk to her aloneLuke replied.

“And I swore to her I would stay.” She crossed her arms over her chest and stared at Luke.

“It’s OK, Galina.” I said, interrupting them. She nodded once and took a step back.

“Good, I’ll go get him. Can we get you anything, coffee, tea, water?Luke asked.

I stayed silent. I was shocked to have an Alpha offer me anything.

“She’ll have tea, one sugar and a splash of milk.” Galina replied, saving me from being incredibly rude for not responding. He nodded and left.

“T-thanks” I stammered.

“Babe, I got you. She sat down on the table in front of me and put her hands on my shoulders.

“You’re doing great. Just try to answer his questions. she came closer and looked me in the eye. “And don’t forget, he will be in a heap of shit if he even thinks about laying a hand on you.” I looked up at her soothing, kind face and I couldn’t help but let out relieved sigh, and smile back at her.

Alaric

I was pacing the cafeteria, while Marcelo was leaning against the wall. It was a wonder there was not a trail mark from me stomping back and forth over the wooden floor. Annoyance clouded my mind and the four cups of coffee had my nerves vibrating. The door opened and Luke walked in.

“Where is she!I all but shouted, storming towards him.

“Hey! You will calm the fuck down!” he snapped, glaring at me. I glared right back. “If you want to talk to her, you have to stay calm. You will not get anything out of her if you burst in there yelling and screaming.” he said sternly.

I considered his words for a second. She'd run away from me in the alley when I shouted at her. If she was my mate, it might be a good idea not to scare the living shit out of her the first time we were face to face.

“I will behave, you have my word.” I mumbled. He started walking out of the room, I followed close behind.

Jade

“Jade, are you ready?Luke asked, peeking in the door. I nodded my head and rose up. I took a deep breath, just as heavy footsteps entered the room. My hands were shaking and my heart was vibrating in my chest. I gritted my teeth, ready to receive the verbal bashing. I heard the door close. It was only him and I in the room now. I held still, ready.

This is it. I have to take it, apologize and beg forgiveness.

Alaric

I stared at the woman in front of me. Her face was mostly hidden by adorable, dark curls. Her scent filled the room and nearly drove me mad with longing.

I wanted go up to her, grab her face and look her straight in the eyes, confirm that she was who I thought she was. But I could sense that she was a frail little thing. I knew I had to be careful.

She hunched up her shoulders around herself, trying to hide, but her posture didn't fool me. She was a delight to look at. Her luscious curves almost made me tremble.

I was in a daze for several seconds before I managed to snap back to reality.

I can wait to know her.

Jade

The silence in the room was starting to unnerve me. I heard him lightly sniff the air as he moved closer.

“Sit” he said firmly. His voice was deep and velvety, making the butterflies in my stomach go haywire. I sat on the edge of my chair, head still tilted down and staring at the floor.

“What is your name?” he asked. His tone was a little lighter, like he was trying his best to be gentle. I opened my mouth but no words came out.

I took a sharp breath and clenched my fists, willing my voice to cooperate.

“J-Jade S-Sawyer I stammered, glancing at his black mountain boots.

“Jade he repeated, like he was tasting it. The sound made me shiver.

“My name is Alaric Hayes.” he said as he walked closer and slowly sat down in the chair opposite me. I got a whiff of his scent of snow, pine and spices. I closed my eyes let it wash over me and ease my nerves.

The fragrance felt like a warm embrace after a shitty day. This was definitely the same scent as on the towels I wanted to roll around on. My pulse picked up speed at the realization.

I waited for him to continue but he kept quiet. I could feel his eyes on me. I started fiddling with my nails again.

“You were in the alley last night. he said. It was not a question, but a statement. I nodded my head.

“You ran from me when I called.he continued, tilting his head, studying me. I swallowed hard, and nodded once more.

“You were also at the Innhe said as he leaned forward and put his massive hands flat on the table. I frowned and started biting the inside of my cheek.

“Why have you been running from me?he asked, leaning back and crossing his arms over his broad chest. My eyes darted left and right. I didn’t know how to respond without angering him.

“I can tell you that you recognize my scent, and I most definitely recognize yours.he said. I could hear the amusement in his voice. “Look at me.he commanded as he leaned forward again, trying to meet my eyes.

I wanted to obey him, but my brain was pushing the panic button. My throat tightened and my breaths became short and labored. I let out a small whimper as he reached out, trying to take my hand. I jerked my hands away before he reached me.

Just then, Galina opened the door. “Alpha Alaric, I am sorry to interrupt, but I must insist on having a word with you.

“Who the fuck are you?he snapped. He rose from his chair and stomped over to her. She didn’t flinch.

His back was to me, so I finally dared to sneak a peek at him. He was tall, very tall. Probably at least a head taller then me. A tribal style tattoo starting by his wrist, went up his massive arm and continued under his black t-shirt. It crept up from the top of the neckline, went over the side of his neck and around his ear.

The low back and side of his head was clean shaven. Over the clean shaven part the hair slowly got more and more visible. The hair on the top of his head was chocolate brown and it looked thick and soft.

For a second I wondered if it was as soft as it looked. I felt a flutter in my stomach and heat spread throughout my body. I was taken aback at the feeling, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away.

His tight t-shirt did nothing to cover up the bulging muscles on his arms and over his back. Even the jeans he was wearing was having trouble hiding the sheer mass of his thighs. He was intimidating and intriguing at the same time.

“I am Galina, mate to the Beta, and this woman here, is my best friend.” she said, gesturing to me. “There are some things you need to know and I will not leave until you’ve listened to what I need to say. 5 minutes and you can continue this”

He glared at her for a full minute, but she kept her ground. She tipped her head forward in a nod of respect and went right back to staring at him. After a while he grunted and nodded once.

“Why don’t you grab some air Jade. We’ll meet back here in five minutesShe said, lightly patting my shoulder before walking out of the room with Alaric in tow.
