Chapter 10

I wake up in a fairly dim room. My body hurts, when I tried to move I noticed my hands and ankles chained to the bed. I slightly freaked out and began yanking on them.

"Relax Stormi, we only chained you because we didn't want you freaking out once you woke up." A nurse walked in trying to calm me. "Captain Arshaw will be here shortly to talk to you, let me unlock these chains." She came over and gentle unlocked them, carefully taking them off.

It was only a few minutes after the nurse left and captain Arshaw walked in. I tried to sit up to salute, but he put his hand up and grabbed the chair to sit down next to me.

"How are you doing Stormi?" He asked cautiously, I don't exactly remember much, but I know it felt like a major night mare.

"My body hurts, but other than that, I feel okay I guess." I looked over and noticed him studying me. "Can I ask you something, captain?" I asked, still being respectful. He lifted his chin some, then nodded.

"So, what exactly happened? On the battle field I mean. It just feels like one big nightmare, so I'm not quite sure what's real and what isnt." I notice him tense after I asked. He wiped his hand over his mouth and adjusted himself in his seat.

"Umm, so I hate to inform you, especially since you just woke up. Clover, Rocky, Zeruko, and Red," he halted for a minute to collect himself. " They didn't make it back, they were killed, on the battle field." I turned to look in front of me. I was quiet for a few minutes before speaking.

"So it wasn't a nightmare?" I more asked myself than anything. Quickly collecting myself I look back over to Arshaw. "So what is it you needed to talk to me about, captain?"

"So, me and the other captains talked, as well as the king. We feel it's best you go home for a few weeks, still going to training a few days a week. After a couple of weeks, you will be assigned to the royal guard. You'll be positioned in the castle." He studied me closely. Honestly, I'm kind of happy. My father was apart of the royal guard, I've always wanted to do the same.

"Thank you captain." I took a deep breath, honestly relieved that I will only be called to the battlefield if needed.

"One last thing," I looked back over to him. " take the first week off, just stay at home and rest. You have a pretty nasty cut on your face and it's best you stay home to keep it from getting infected." I took my hand and felt my face. There's stitches under my eye, and more at the eyebrow/forehead area.

A moment later the nurse walked back in. "You're free to go Stormi," she said to me then looked over to Arshaw. "Captain Arshaw." She bowed her head and left the room.

"I'll walk you home." Captain Arshaw stood up, giving me his hand. He helped me up from the bed and we headed to my house.

By the time we reached my house, I was exhausted and just wanted to go back to sleep. Captain Arshaw knocked on the door and my mother opened it seconds after. She had a big smile on her face when she saw Arshaw, but the moment her eyes landed ok me, fear swept over her.

"Oh my god, Stormi." She said breathlessly. She quickly, but gently grabbed me and hugged me. The moment she grabbed me tighter, I knew she was crying. I can tell she's relieved that I'm home, but little does she know, she's about to find out the worst.

"Mrs. Cloveland, I have some important information that I need to discuss with you." Arshaw broke out moment. When my mom pulled away, she quickly wiped her tears.

"Of course, come in." She said walking into the door. Me and Arshaw followed behind. They both sat at the table.

"Hey, I think I'm going to go to sleep. I'm still really exhausted." I said walking slowly towards them. Both of them looked at me, Arshaw nodded his head.

"Okay sweetie, go get you some rest." My mom said. I just nodded my head and went back into my room. I decided to jump in the shower because I felt disgusting.

Once I was done I went and laid on my bed. As I was just about to go to sleep I heard my mom scream. It sent chills through my body. I knew exactly what she was screaming about and I felt tears starting to roll down my face as well. I would've gone out there, but I was too exhausted to get up.

I don't blame her for her reaction, what mother wants to find out her first child was killed during battle? The only positive side is one of her children did return home alive.

After hearing her scream I had a hard time going to sleep. I constantly flipped around in the bed, trying to get comfortable. I would be lying if I said I wasn't terrified to go to sleep as well. I feel like if I go to sleep I'll just end up reliving that day over.

I barely heard the front door open and close, Arshaw must've left. I waited to see if my mom would come back to my room to check on me, but she never did. I wonder if Arshaw mentioned anything about me going back into training and going into the royal guard after I build myself back up?

My thoughts must've gotten the best of me. I felt my body slowly starting to get tired again. I rolled over one more time, facing my fathers picture that I luckily got back. Taking one last look at the picture, I finally got my self to go to sleep.
