Chapter 11

Eventually, all good things must come to an end, and all too soon for the young mates, summer did.

Ryker would return to high school, and Ember would start college and a new job working at Morris Outfitters with Ryker’s mom, Anna.

Ryker still hadn’t shifted, so, for all his ‘dirty’ talk, they still hadn’t mated.

Being an Omega, Ember didn’t feel the push to mate and mark, so she was content to wait.

Her brother Emerson was a different story. He’d already marked, mated, and gotten Staci pregnant. So, their mom was running around helping get their apartment ready for the new baby.

Ember was excited about being an aunt herself. Between her job, getting ready for college, and Ryker, though, she didn’t have much time to help her mom.

Ember and Ryker had been staying, mostly at his house. In doing so, she’d gotten to know her Aunt Anna better. It had also given them time to talk more about ‘wolf’ things, helping Ryker’s mom come to terms with Ember and Ryker’s relationship.

All things considered, it was a good summer all around for everyone.

“So, Ryker, we’ve been dividing our time between our houses. When school starts Monday, what is our plan?” Ember asked.

Ryker and Ember snuggled up together on the couch. Ember had her head in his lap, and Ryker was running his hand through her hair as they watched TV.

Ryker muted the TV and glanced down. “I don’t know, love.”

Ember gave a huff as she thought about it. “Well, your house is closer to both your school and the college. So, maybe we should stay here during the week unless something comes up. We could stay at mine on the weekends to give your parents a break from us.”

“That could work. Except, with two brothers, my house would be more chaotic than yours would be.”

“Hm… that’s true. Plus, I have my bathroom. You could use Emerson’s old one, now that he and Staci have moved out,” Ember mused.

Ryker pulled her up into his arms and kissed her. “So, I say we stay at yours if it’s okay with your folks.”

“Okay, I suppose it isn’t that much more of a drive to school,” Ember agreed.

“No, not enough to make a difference anyway.”

“So, what about our schedules?” Ember questioned.

“I have to be in class earlier than you, so you drop me off on your way.”

“Then I can pick you up after work on the days I’m off by four,” Ember said.

“I have football practice, so that works. Although sometimes you might have to wait if we run late,” Ryker agreed.

Ember ran her fingertips along his jawline, feeling the bit of stubble starting to grow there. She bit her lip, then thinking what it would feel like on her bare skin and felt her body heat up.

Embarrassment filled her as she quickly moved her eyes up to his.

Amusement filled his. “Get a bit sidetracked there?”

Clearing her throat, she answered, “Sounds good to me.”

Ryker chuckled as he stood up, holding her tightly in his arms. “I think it’s time to go to my room because I think you’re feeling a bit naughty.”

Ember’s body still felt warm from her thoughts and heated even more as it rubbed against Ryker’s body. When they reached his room, he slowly let her down and closed his door before pulling her flush against him. She couldn’t hold back the soft whimper at the friction.

“Oh Ember, this waiting sometimes gets to me,” Ryker said as he kissed along her neck. He then nipped lightly before sucking on the spot that would one day hold his mark.

“I-I know, but it’ll be worth it.” Ember moaned as her head fell back, giving him better access.

After leaving a love bite on her neck, Ryker went back to her lips for a kiss that left them breathless and panting. He pulled away and took a deep breath. “Sometimes, I almost feel like something inside is telling me to… take you. However, I don’t know if it’s my wolf’s feeling or just my horny teenager ones.”

Ember giggled as she brushed her hand along his jaw again. “Your dad said he could sense your wolf Ryker, so maybe it’s a combination of both.”

Ryker hummed a bit the slowly began to remove her clothing, down to her undergarments. Then he removed his own. Once done, he pulled her over to the bed, and they lay down facing each other. “I want to love you, Ember, just…”

“You don’t want to fully mate,” Ember whispered in understanding.

Ryker nodded.

“It’s okay, Ryker. I love it when you love on me. One day soon, I believe we will finish the mating,” Ember told him as she leaned in for a kiss.

Ryker moaned as she pulled her closer, his body heating up fast. “One day,” Ryker agreed as he tumbled her under him. “One day.”

Ember was about fifteen minutes early to pick Ryker up from school. She didn’t have to work, and her eleven-thirty class had been canceled. So, she’d told Aunt Anna she’d pick up Ryker from school.

Now, here she was, sitting outside the school building, waiting to surprise Ryker. He’d told her he was getting out at noon today. Although he’d also mentioned having football practice, she figured she’d stay and watch him.

Climbing out of her car, Ember raised her nose in the air and breathed deep. The breeze on her warm cheeks felt good. So, she sat down on the hood of her car. Leaning back on her hands, she closed her eyes and prepared to wait.

“Well, well, lookie what we have here. A pretty little girl,” a man said.

The voice broke Ember from her daydreams of Ryker’s kisses and had her opening her eyes. She stared at the three rough-looking men standing in front of her. All the three were wearing was ratty-looking shorts, riding low on lean hips, and no shirts. They all had dirty black hair and brown eyes, plus they looked like brothers and were most likely rogue wolves.

“Can I help you?” Ember softly asked, trying not to let her fear show.

One of them stepped forward with a smirk on his face. “Yep, you can kiss me. I haven’t seen a girl as pretty as you in a long time.”

Ember swallowed hard as she quickly glanced around. There was nobody outside on school grounds, just her. Looking back at the men, Ember realized they’d stepped even closer while she’d been distracted. Gazing into their almost dead-looking eyes, it was clear they were rogues. There hadn’t been any rogue wolves in Soonerton for many years.

Ember swallowed again, just her luck; they’d show up now. She was an omega, not a fighter. Where was the Pack patrol when you need them? Straightening, she told them, “You’re close to Red Paw Pack lands; best you move along.”

The first guy, who seemed to be the spokesman, said, “Oh, we will after we spend some quality time with you.” Then, before Ember had a chance to do anything, he’d grabbed her and tossed her over his shoulder. “Let’s go, boys, before her pack finds us.”

They began to run for the woods beside the school.

“No! Put me down!” Ember screamed as she tried frantically to get loose.

“Shut up, girl, before I knock you out,” the second man snarled as he snatched at her hair.

“I say we knock her out anyway,” the third man suggested.

“Good idea,” the first one agreed. “Do it.”

Ember barely had time to scream before a fist collided with her head. But she did manage to yell frantically for Ryker to help her in her head. She hoped their bond was strong enough that even without her being mark he would somehow hear her.
